  2. Again with the 2nd and 3rd, nobody out, and we get only one run. Damian grounds into a DP. Can't believe I'm thinking that I might be ready to have Castillo back and that he's going to be an improvement on Easley.
  3. Isn't McVie on the far right?
  4. I think they pretty much did that already. There's not much room down the lines -- anywhere -- in the new park.
  5. Having 2nd and 3rd with nobody out and only scoring 1 run is disappointing.
  6. And sure enough, A. Reyes singles to lead off the game.

    Shutout

Funnily enough, that was Oliver Perez' first Mets win also.

    Shutout

I think you're forgetting this game, an Oliver Perez shutout against the Braves in September '06.
  10. Santana 6 Schneider 3 Beltran 1
  11. I'm glad to see that both of you are capable of using hyperbole. --- I'm not sure I know the answer, but I've certainly been made aware (here and elsewhere) that pitchers don't pitch as long as they used to; pitch counts are lower/used now when they're not. So...were there more injuries in years past? Or a deeper talent pool due to there being fewer ML teams? Better conditioning?
  12. metsguyinmichigan wrote: I don't like the black jerseys, but if that's a part of the streak, I'll take it! Howie Rose spoke in the radio broadcast yesterday about how he was giving Charlie Samuels crap about them wearing black -- and that Charlie promised a change back to the grays once the Mets lost a game.
  13. Had his first (and only?) major league homer on the day after the Mets clinched in '06. Was the leadoff batter in the all-scrub lineup that day. Mets you may forget were on the opening day roster of a 97-win team (in '06): Anderson Hernandez Victor Zambrano Victor Diaz Jorge Julio
  14. Adam Rubin is reporting that the Mets have traded Anderson Hernandez to the Nationals for reliever Luis Ayala. Link here: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/2008/08/reliever-ayala-expected-to-joi.html
  15. Garza had a no-hitter going for Tampa that was broken up by an Ian Kinsler single. Devil Rays up 6-0 in the 7th.
  16. Not anymore. Glavine back to the DL.
  17. Pelfrey 4.5 Heilman 1.35 A. Reyes 1.35 Reyes 1 Delgado 1 Feliciano .8
  18. I was at that game. Didn't get get a bunt single in the first inning?
  19. I would send down Robinson Cancel as soon as possible (and instead of Evans?) Recent good play notwithstanding, Argenis is in danger when Castillo returns.
  20. 1. Catch Philly. (Achieved). 2. Pass Philly. (Achieved). 3. Run Away (Working on it!) Put in in the books. Another excellent win.
  21. Church played in his first rehab game, going 1-3 in 5 innings as a DH for the Gulf Coast Mets. (Per Adam Rubin's blog.
  22. From your CPF research department: 2008: This thread, this game. 2007: August 16, 2007. Mets up 7-4 after 5 innings. Lose 10-7. Mota/Feliciano/Heilman give back 3 runs in the 6th and 7th to tie. Errors by Wright and DiFelice lead to 3 unearned runs in the 8th for the Pirates. Relive the misery here. 2006: September 16, 2006. 2 outs, bottom of the 9th, tie game. Joe Randa walks, Ronny Paulino RBI double off Heilman scores him. This was the series where any win would have clinched the division for us but we got swept instead. Relive it here. 2005: July 8, 2005. Mets had just taken 3 of 4 from Washington, who were the division leaders at the time (!). Mets up 5-1 going to the bottom of the 9th. Heilman (umm, him again) loads the bases with two outs, and Willie goes to Looper. After an epic 12-pitch at bat, Tike Redman hits a 2-RBI single; it's followed immediately by a Matt Lawton 2-RBI double. In the 10th, Looper still in, 2-base throwing error by Miguel Cairo puts the winning run at second. Humberto Cota with the walk-off single. More misery here. 2004: Whole bunch of crappy loses, one doesn't stick out: April 16, 2004: Glavine goes 7 IP, 1 H, 0 Runs. In the 8th, the Pirates get 7 runs of the trio of Orber Moreno, Mike Stanton and Dan Wheeler. April 17, 2004: Pirates starter Oliver Perez goes 6 2/3 shutout innings, but then walks 2 and Wiggington ties it (1-1) with an RBI single. Trachsel gives the run back the next inning and the Mets lose 2-1. September 19, 2004: Aaron Heilman goes 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, but again takes the loss against the Pirates when the Mets get 3 hits and no runs for the whole game. 2003: September 25, 2003. Bob Murphy's last game. Mets lose 3-1, only run on a Wiggington solo homer. Also Piazza's first game at first base. 2002: September 24, 2002. Mets up 3-0 after 6. Give up 2 in the 7th and 4 in the 8th to lose 6-3. Steve Reed, Mark Guthrie and David Weathers are your culprits.

  24. 3-1 is the final as Los Angeles completes the 4-game sweep. Thanks, Dodgers.
  25. We'll get the same 3 Houston pitchers we saw earlier this month (plus one more) when the Astros come to Shea, although only Perez-Wolf is a straight rematch. I saw a note posted elsewhere that the rotation currently lines up for the Brewers so that the Mets will miss Sabathia when the Mets go to Milwaukee on September 1-3, but that's a little far out for even me to be projecting. at PIT Fri Aug 15 - Pelfrey v.
