  1. Fuck you, Francisco Cervelli. You didn't do shit other than catch the ball. You're down 3 runs, and you're personally 0-2 tonight. You stupid little fuck.
  2. The backup catcher is Chad Moeller (all glove, no hit); he's been around forever. This is a rare weekend series with all night games, plus an off-day Monday, so they may just start Cervelli all 3 games.

As a result, e.g. if you live in LA and want to see the Mets-MFY game, you can't because it, and all other games that start within 3 hours of the beginning of the FOX game, may not be shown on Extra Innings and mlb.tv. The Mets game starts outside of the usual Fox exclusivity window though. Or does that window get extended because of the primetime game?

    Maine: Mad

Jerry did a lot of things wrong here, including sending Maine out to pitch when he was clearly unsure about whether that was a good idea and then showing Maine up when taking him out of the game. Those faults aside, I too have to side with Jerry here. The Mets need to win games and if Maine can't throw fastballs it's not as if he has great off-speed pitches to fall back on.

Tampa took the second of two from the MFYs to run up their division lead another couple of games. They're looking scary-good this year. We're 1/4 of the way through the season and they're on pace for 118 wins.
  6. Santana 3.25 Castillo 1 Davis 1 Francoeur 1
  7. Pagan 2.25 Dickey 2.25 Francoeur 1 Acosta 1
  8. Wright 3 Valdes 3 Barajas 1.25 Bay 1.25 Davis 1.25 Francoeur 1.25
  9. They do understand that eventually our lead goes away if we keep giving up runs, right?
  10. Nice outing by Valdes, going farther in relief than some of our starters do.
  11. ?? It almost seems unfair he gets credited with any assists, given the throw he made into the infield.
  12. You realize that's a Wallace Matthews idea you're putting in support of your point, right? In all seriousness, I think it is true that Jerry is not being evaluated on 2008 and 2010 alone but it also must be considered that Jerry did a pretty awful job in the last two or three weeks of 2008 which certainly negated much of the goodwill he earned following Willie's departure.

    Candidates

Candidate Two: Alan Trammell Major League Experience: Detroit Tigers, 2003-2005 Major League Winning Percentage: .383 Post Season Experience: N/A. Won a World Series in 1984; lost in LCS in 1987 as player. Other Experience: Coach, Detroit, 1999 Coach, San Diego 2000-2002 Current Job: Bench Coach, Chicago Cubs, since 2007 Mets Pedigree: None Influences: Sparky Anderson, his longtime manager in Detroit. Worked with Lou Piniella the past few years. Profile as a Player: All-Star shortstop who was an outstanding fielder and was a better player than he seemingly gets credit for these days. Managerial History: His first year as manager he inherited a truly awful team (they went 43-119) and then put up a 72-90 season the next year, and then 71-91 before getting fired. Tigers won the pennant the next year (2006). I don't know a ton about Trammell as a manager but I'll throw him out as a candidate because I'd like to see the Mets go outside the organization for this next hire and he's already dealt with disastrously bad teams. I also think the bench-coach experience in the NL he has under Piniella will be useful.
  15. We already have a prediction poll as to what the Mets will do -- this is what they should do, and that is show Jerry the door this second. Not this afternoon, NOW!!!
  16. Angel's TP was nice but let's not forget that the umpires' abject failure to make a clear call was a big assist. I'd probably give this to Keith or Jose's cycle.
  17. Is the full list available?
  18. First Mets TP since 2002 vs. the Padres.
  19. Some background on R.A.: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/27/sports/baseball/27dickey.html I think I posted this before, when Dickey faced the Mets a couple of years ago, but of course anything by Alan Schwarz is worth a re-read.
  20. I'd also trade Wright for Albert Pujols.
  21. Wow that blows.
  22. Edgy DC wrote: Of course they had a plan. Aside from "start him in the majors as a reliever" I don't see any evidence of a "plan." I see them changing things as injuries dictate (ie. Niese down, but Igarashi is coming back).
