Does Jerry Manuel have no clue how to manage a bullpen? [cut to montage of Jerry running out of dugout signaling to the pen, and then shots of Nieve giving up homers, Rodriguez blowing save, etc.]
I was extremely pleased to see them not roll over and die after the 6-run top of the 5th. I was extremely displeased with stupid bunts (let's not forget Francoeur's abomination of a bunt attempt to start the bottom of the 4th) and bad managing. Full disclosure: Once we chased Wood, I was thinking it might've been good to hit Thole for Barajas with the righty reliever coming on (and of course Rod then hit the RBI cheapie). The "pyrotechnics" show was ok, but not as good as I remember Shea's most recent (2005) fireworks night. Shot them off from the roof and from handtrucks in centerfield but they were mostly the "after homerun" fireworks and not the "big flowery boom" fireworks you would see on the East River.
No Mark Carreon as a power bat on the bench? Feliciano is a good choice, given that he gets paid specifically to get NL East lefthanders (Dunn, Howard, Utley, et al) out.
Reyes: Either he plays or he goes on the DL. This is just getting stupid and of course exactly how Omar and the Mets typically mismanage these situations. First it was going to be Friday, then Saturday, then Sunday. Now it's Monday and he's still not in the lineup. Unacceptable.
I would think so. But still, that's not an excuse for Charlie Manuel's stupidity. I expect that Votto, once added, will be given the starting spot as the NL DH.
Phillies were up 5-2 going to the bottom of the 7th and then the Pirates dropped 6 runs on them in the bottom of the 7th. Pirates win again. I'd like to thank our friends in Pittsburgh for taking 3 of 4 this weekend. Rivera blew the save for the MFYs and they're tied in the 10th with Toronto. Braves-Marlins getting underway in 20 minutes.
Way to go Charlie Manuel. Picking Omar Infante is surely the way to win the all-star game. The Pelfrey snub aside, the picking of Ryan Howard over Joey Votto is particularly insulting.
