  2. We got Jason Vargas (who is having a very decent season for Seattle this year) from the Marlins for him.
  3. The future is wide open for Castillo... (on another team)
  4. 2:1 Parnell 4:1 Takahashi 6:1 Feliciano 10:1 Igarashi 20:1 Field

One would think the best-case scenario for the Mets (financially) would be for him to be convicted of assault which would only bolster an attempt to void the contract. I would also think that Worker's Compensation would want to deny any claim for the medical bills for the surgery as the injury didn't occur during the course of his employment.
  6. Rodriguez finished 46 games this year for the Mets. Accordingly, he needs to finish at least 55 next year (for whomever he plays for) in order for his option for 2012 to vest.

I'm betting that a majority of fans would guess that number to be much higher - like well over half. It think it depends on the situation. A "perfect save" when it's a 1 run lead is an accomplishment. Giving up a baserunner (or even two) when it's a 3-run lead is far less consequential. I'm sure there could be a metric for this, something like [(Hits + HBP + Unintentional Walks / "1 run save situations") * x] and we could call is "close save efficiency."
  9. Is tonight finally the night that somebody gets the perfect 6.0? Then again, if Niese couldn't get a 6.0 in his 1-hitter, I don't know how anyone else could.
  10. Dickey 6 Hessman 1.75 Beltran 1.25 Wright .75 Blanco .75
  11. No bullpen needed! Great game. Crowd was very slow on the uptake in terms of cheering for Dickey but picked it up in the ninth. This year has had a lot of frustrations but also some very fine pitching performances.
  12. I see dumping Rodriguez as an achievable goal. Rodriguez actually has quite of bit of value as a player. The Mets could easily trade him, in one of the two following scenarios: A. The Mets eat a large part of the salary in order to get useful player(s) back; or B. Their trading partner picks up most of the salary and the Mets get a sack of baseballs (or equivalent) back. I think this is what's likely to happen.
  13. Santana 6 Beltran 2.5 Reyes 1.5
  14. Got it. In that case, sounds like the police did him a favor by keeping him in the (private) holding cell rather than anywhere else.
  15. I'm fairly certain he's not. He was being arraigned at Queens Criminal Court (in Kew Gardens) this morning, no?

  17. As far as I'm concerned, Jeff can ride the pine for the rest of the year. You had a year to produce. You don't get to demand a trade now that you're unhappy that your stats have caused you to get benched. Shove it.

The reason one dumps salary is to clear budget room to get other players instead, right? I get that Beltran is overpaid at this point. But why the need to dump his salary if the money isn't being used elsewhere? The concern is the Wilpon's checkbook? That ticket prices might go down if the Mets don't have to spend $18.5 M on Beltran?
  19. $18.5 is a fair price (if not a bargain) for 2006 Beltran. The thing about Beltran is that he managed to put up a .915 OPS in his 357 plate appearances (81 games) last year, while his knee was bothering him so much that it required extensive DL time and then surgery. I get that he's been crap at the plate so far but he also has only been back a month after being out a year. I find it very strange how quickly everybody is to give up on him. If somebody really wants to take the salary, fine. But do we think that clearing the $18.5 M from the 2011 payroll (only) will open the Mets up to signing a free agent in the offseason? If so -- who would be better?
  20. There was no chance of Francouer scoring. A runner would have scored only if they were running on the pitch.
