  1. For what it's worth, Eric Wedge *did* play in the majors in the early '90s (not very much).
  2. Top of the 9th. Dessens warms up. Peter Moylan (who threw 2 pitches after replacing an injured Takashi Saito) is the batter due up. Moylan is announced, and Jerry goes to the mound so that Feliciano will come in. Presumably Jerry wanted to get Feliciano some more time to get warm as it was a chilly night. Except...he didn't wait for the Braves to announce a pinch hitter. He just brought Feliciano in anyway. I know we've got nothing to play for and there are 45 guys on each roster, but if they send the relief pitcher up to bat, you call their bluff and make the relief pitcher hit. Or you make them burn another guy off the bench if they want the lefty/righty advantage. You don't give them a freebie. Jerry Manuel, you are a moron. I don't care how much of what has gone wrong the past 2.5 years wasn't actually your fault, the fact remains that you are are not a competent major league manager and your termination cannot come soon enough.
  3. Conversation we had tonight: "Well, we got to see Bobby thrown out one more time." "Don't be so sure it won't happen again this weekend."
  4. Not all Yankee fans are criminals, but...
  5. Hmm. I must've been looking at the wrong schedule. Anyway, two visits to Washington next year are on weekends...
  6. A very disappointing schedule. I really dislike repeating interleague opponents from year to year. We had Baltimore in 09-10; Twins in 09-10; and now Tigers in 10-11. A little more rotation would be nice. All 3 visits to Washington are on the weekend. Finishing September with at ATL, at STL, vs. PHI and vs. CIN is a pretty tough schedule.
  7. Probably not, but then again, there are people out there who still genuinely believe that the Mets have too many Latino players, so I guess anything's possible...
  8. A really craptacular performance by Meija there. The 3-2 single to Valdez was just an absolute killer, particularly after his teammates scored him 3 runs just the half-inning prior. Great company for the later innings as Second Spitter and Luncbucket joined the Gwreck party in some nice seats the Mets gave us for free...
  9. The less-desirable the game (Wednesday against the Pirates, for example), the better your tickets but no matter what game you choose they'll be very good. Apparently they are doing this for every (?) partial-plan holder.
  10. They're good. Metropolitan or Field Box. Did they give you a choice of game?
  11. Pagan was in that opening day lineup in 2008 too. But I think I would slot him in after Johan, as Pagan didn't bat in the top of the 1st inning.
  12. Pelfrey and Maine. Perez if you are not counting DL players.
  13. 14. You can show me the Aorta commercial every day and twice on Sunday as long as I never have to see the "Derek Jeter? That guy's got an Edge" commercial again I also prefer the Aorta commercial to the Emblem Health lady: "C'mon ladies, let's keep it up! And 1! and 2!"
  15. What, no "Mets" option? Hard to believe I would actually ever prefer the Braves (save those evil Braves/Yankees WS matchups) but it's come to this.
  16. Pagan CF Hernandez 2B Carter RF Wright 3B Davis 1B Duda LF Thole C Tejada SS Pelfrey P
  17. Pagan RF Hernandez 2B Beltran CF Davis 1B Hessman 3B Duda LF Thole C Tejada SS Niese P I think this is the first time all season there's nobody in the starting lineup who was in the opening day lineup.
  18. DocTee wrote: Why Warthen? Given injuries and the staff with which he works, isn't he doing well? I don't know if he deserves to go, but I suspect they will clean house and fire most of the coaches and the manager as well.
  19. I want Manuel, Minaya and Howard gone. But I suspect only Manuel, Johnson and Warthen will actually go.
  20. I liked that he bought a season/partial ticket plan (or upgraded) for '87. Opening day streak from 1987-1993. Looks like he stopped going after the strike but there's at least one more Shea shot in '96 which is good to know he saw another game before he got sick.
  21. batmagadanleadoff wrote: His image was selected for display on an oversized 2010 Topps baseball card at CF for the installation where Mets history is represented by one Topps Mets card from every season of the team's existence. You forgot to mention, "with no repeats" and that the player was chosen by May, if not earlier. If they were choosing it now, I suppose they would go with Dickey.
  22. Alou was a 1 year deal with an option. In 2007, when he was on the field, he was fantastic. .916 OPS in 360 plate appearances. They then exercised the option for 2008 and got a grand total of 54 PAs that year.
  23. For non-punitive damages, yes. It would seem likely that Duquette's testimony combined with an expert economist would have laid the groundwork for a hefty loss of earnings claim. I'll speculate that the confidential settlement amount was between $5 million and $10 million.
  24. Lucas Duda, 892
