  1. There's no such thing. The tie is broken by head-to-head record during the season, for which they hold the lead.
  2. Texas at Tampa Yankees at Minnesota are your first round matchups.
  3. Tampa tied up their game and unless the Royals win it in the bottom of the 9th, that game will go to extras. If Boston has already won by that point (edit: they just did), one would think Tampa would have little motivation to keep playing hard in extras.
  4. Minnesota clinched seed #2 with their loss this afternoon. Red Sox up big late in their game, which will hand Tampa the division crown.
  5. Last time the last game of the season went to extras was 1999, although there were also 13 innings in the regular season finale in 2000.
  6. Jerry takes Wright and Reyes out of the game at the top of the 9th so they can get an ovation from the crowd. It's like he had to perform one final act of stupidity before leaving us. I'm glad they could be recognized by the crowd but it's a TIE GAME. We do still want to win, right?
  7. I believe that was a 3-5-4.
  8. I see the Reds as the best chance to defeat Philly so I am rooting for them all-the-way. Second choice is the Padres (no WS wins, ever) but they don't seem particularly capable of winning much. Although I guess their pitching could stay hot for a series or two.
  9. Tyler Clippard...couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Between Tuesday and tonight, two solid walk-offs at the end of the season at least makes these meaningless games very enjoyable.

  13. I think Minnesota is more likely to beat the MFYs in the first round than Texas would be so hopefully Tampa will win the division.

  15. Only teams with longer playoff droughts are Toronto, Pittsburgh and Kansas City.

Lance Berkman is the guy missing from the rankings but I don't think that changes where Ike falls.
  18. Watched that while on the subway on the way back from tonight's victory. Technology can be a wonderful thing.

He is behind Pujols, Votto, Gonzalez, Huff, Fielder, Howard and Dunn. Ahead of LaRoche, Glaus, Lee (CHC), Sanchez, Berkman (pre-trade), Helton, Loney, and Jones. Ike Davis is a terrific fielder. WAR includes defense. I was writing about his hitting. Right now, Ike's about the 9th or 10th best hitting 1B in the NL, up from the very bottom of the barrel. He's having an excellent September. Still, you're not gonna make the playoffs with players that are 8th best WAR at their positions. I know WAR includes defense. It would be fair to judge Ike on an all-around basis if determining whether he's a liability or asset vis-a-vis the competition, right?

  22. Not a pleasant forecast today either but I bet they play. 50/50 on whether there's a rain delay at the start of the game.
