  1. Hamilton Sac Fly ties it
  2. No doubt they should've won game 2 but given its early place in the series I never think of it as the turning point. --- I seem to have erased Game 5 from my memory. Reviewing the box score is not a pretty sight. We had the 12 runs in Game 4 and were going into game with the pitching advantage, with Glavine facing Jeff Fucking Weaver. After we took a 2-0 lead in the 4th, Glavine gave them right back, on a Pujols solo homer (whatever) but then, with 2 outs, walks Rolen on 4 pitches and procees to give up hits to Edmonds and Ronnie Fucking Belliard. Additionally, I was surprised to see that Felciano gave up a pinch-hit homer to Chris Duncan (a lefty batter).
  3. 5 years already and I still can't stop thinking about this game. I still am positive we would have won the World Series. In fairness to Valentin, he did get the leadoff single in the 9th when we had a critical need for baserunners. I still believe as much now as I did then that Cliff was going to hit a homer and become an all-time Mets legend. While most of what happened between the Catch and Molina is a blur to me, I clearly remember the 9th and bunting with Glavine never crossed my mind for a second.
  4. You're right, I wasn't going strictly by WAR; I merely offered it as one consideration. Again, I'll admit to disliking Bay (as a baseball player) and have no problem being called on that. If there was some sort of absolute objective measure of the Mets' outfielders then there would be no point to this excercise because we'd all vote the same way.
  5. I'm not sure Bush would make for a bad Commissioner. We might never get rid of God Bless America but on non-political issues my guess is that he'd be fine.
  6. Fuck Valentin, the problem with this series was Steve Trachsel phoning it in for Game 3. That is where things went off track. We should've never even been in a Game 7 with a clearly inferior team.

I thought the WAR was supposed to normalize for that. Pridie rose to the same level of mediocrity as Bay, he just did so over a shorter amount of time.

Could have in '82, but was infatuated with those Brewers and was generally pissed off at everybody in the N.L. East for being better than we were. Could not have and didn't in '85 and '87; no explanation necessary. Had that vague "if they win, at least it means we lost to the eventual champs" thing going in '06, but that doesn't mean I rooted for them. I could barely stand to look that Series and did very little watching. It's easy to forget 2004 as the Cardinals basically also forgot to show up for that series against the Red Sox. This will be the Cardinals' third WS in the past 10 years (more than any other team).
  14. I thank them for eliminating the Phillies early but I'd really like a sweep by the Rangers.
  15. Dickey Capuano Gee Niese Pelfrey
  16. For perspective, here are the candidates sorted by WAR: Gee 1.5 Duda .8 Pridie .6 Turner .3 Thayer .2 Schwinden 0 Pascucci 0 Nickeas -.2 Satin -.2 Beato -.3 Stinson -.3 Emaus -.3
  17. 1 - Gee 2 - Duda 3 - Turner 4 - Beato 5 - Pridie
  18. I just assumed nobody here even watched that series. I sure didn't.
  19. Yabbut, those are apparently the relievers who are behind the "break glass only in emergency." I think Leyland could've used Al Alburquerque if necessary.
  20. I only listened for a few innings so I can't critique the entire broadcast. That being said, Verlander's pitch count was one of the single most important factors in the game: he's the best pitcher in baseball; the Tigers had none of their top relievers available; it's a potential elimination game.
  21. ESPN Radio (free) has Dan Shulman and Orel Hershisher who are very good. The Tigers' and Rangers' local radio ($$ through MLB Gameday Audio) aren't.
  22. "It'd be good for baseball in Texas to have two teams in the same state vying for the division lead," Ryan told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Gee, the worst team in MLB moving to your division is a good thing? You don't say.
  23. Joe Buck: "Rangers going for their fourth straight win in a one-run game." Gwreck: "Not going to be a one-run game if it's a homer, Joe."
  24. Brewers put up 9 runs in support of a sub-par Greinke effort.
  25. Magglio Ordonez out for the balance of the postseason with an ankle injury. Things I don't understand: why the Tigers would reveal this. He played in game one, so I don't think he can be replaced. So why tell your opponent that you're a man short?
