  1. I have the sick feeling that I'm not going to like how this ends.
  2. Jeez, Pelfrey. Gets ahead of Nix 1-2 and then throws three fastballs high, not particularly close to the zone.
  3. Again, not to step on Monk's streak but...love those first inning runs! KABOOM for Ike!
  4. Halladay, Kershaw, Santana, Billingsley, Strasburg, Zito? Which one of these is not like the others!
  5. KABOOM for Duda!
  6. Just a single will be fine, Jason.
  7. First time I saw it I thought he was just cold. Looks like he's not doing it with a runner on.
  8. I once again credit blue hats on the road. Amazing
  9. Not to step on TransMonk's winning streak here but the game's started... I guess David Wright is just fine. KABOOM!
  10. The Bossards have been known for creative groundkeeping in the past to their home teams' advantage. Roger Bossard, the head White Sox groundskeeper, is the grandson of Emil Bossard, the former Cleveland Indians groundskeeper, who apparently Joe Dimaggio once blamed for ending his hitting streak (for watering down the infield so much to slow down the ground balls he hit). I remember reading about the Bossards in the Cheater's Guide to Baseball by Derek Zumsteg. I also found this link amusing: http://espn.go.com/page2/s/list/readers/baseball/cheaters.html (scroll down to No. 4).

Blue hats on the road. Amazing. You always knew those blue/black hats were hideous but it becomes that more obvious when contrasted with what we have tonight.
  12. Most likely answer is that Rollins told Thole not to slide because the play was at first. Thole, like an idiot, thought it was foul and jogged back to first.
  13. Josh, you're riding the bench for the rest of the series.
  14. KABOOM for...do my eyes deceive me...Jason Bay!
  15. As we learned from the Delgado game at the old house of evil, Blue hats on the road means good offensive things. Nice to have those early hits against Lee.
  16. The White Sox? The Bossard family of groundskeepers? I highly doubt this was accidental.

Jimmy signed a 3 year extension (plus a complicated vesting option for a fourth year) in the offseason at $11 M/year. In fairness, 2011 was his best season (3.7 WAR) since that year that they gave him David Wright's MVP award by mistake. He had 40 extra base hits last year, stole 30 and still played reasonable defense. But he's 33 years old now and seems unlikely to be improving. Things I learned from Baseball reference: Jimmy and Tony Tarasco are cousins.
  18. So why the hell was Johan even batting if he was only going to be pulled after 1 batter? Idiotic.
  19. I was surprised that Santana was allowed to hit. 93 pitches through 5 innings.
  20. [crossout:3vgqsduz]Wait, why are we resting half the starters in one single game?[/crossout:3vgqsduz] Wait, I see the platoon matchups now.
  21. I used to hate the Marlins a ton but most of the offending players there are gone -- no more Cody Ross, Dan Uggla, Alfredo Amezaga, Scott Olsen, Miguel Olivo, et al. There is still nothing redeemable about the Phillies.
  22. Lombardozzi is a second baseman, like his father, who was on the WS Champion Twins in 1987. He had a pretty good season in the minors last year: 309/360/460, 8 Homers, 30 steals in a season split between AA and AAA. He's supposed to be a well regarded prospect but the Nationals have Danny Espinosa at second base currently. Espinosa did hit 21 homers and 29 doubles last year but not much else: 236/323/414, with 166 strikeouts.
  23. Recognized the font/layout. Sorry to disappoint.
  24. Yeah, I'm going to suggest that "The Onion" is not exactly authoritative on this issue.
