  1. Nice game. Colon is winning me back to his side. I'm not sure how I manage in yesrs when we don't have the best centerfielder in baseball.
  2. Need a big hit right here.
  3. More on Cosart: 1. Originally a Phillies prospect. One of the pieces they sent to Houston in the Hunter Pence deal. 2. Investigated by MLB for gambling due to suspicious comments he made via Twitter. Got fined by MLB for gambling on other sports (no evidence he gambled on baseball). http://www.foxsports.com/florida/story/miami-marlins-jarred-cosart-mlb-gambling-investigation-040315
  4. The Mets are currently (as of 12:30 PM EDT) offering only 1402 remaining seats for sale for tonight. I don't know how they count the luxury suites and group sales areas in attendance, but unless they're playing games with ticket availability, the paid attendance should exceed 40k.

But Piano Man isn't better than Sweet Caroline and I doubt the Mets are the first to play it, just like the Red Sox weren't the first to use Sweet Caroline. 1. They play songs between innings all the time. The point of having a singalong at one point in every game is that it will always be the same song. 2. Piano Man is a superior song to Sweet Caroline, but that doesn't really matter, because the real issue is 3. The Mets (and, as evidenced on opening day, their fans) need to stop trying to copy other people's traditions. Just because several teams have eighth-inning singalongs does not mean the Mets need to as well.
  6. To my ears, Colon was even louder than Harvey. I think it was "de Blasio." It was a off-white home pinstripe jersey, with number 6 on the back. I have no idea why he thought a jersey was appropriate. I would respect him a lot more* if he stuck to his Red Sox fandom. --- *As to baseball issues only, I don't want to start a politics-of-NYC-discussion

Ohhhh, we didn't even get to talk about this. Middle of the 8th inning yesterday: PA starts playing some Billy Joel as the scorboard reads "Piano Man Sing-Along." No shit. That is what they are trying to push this year. I mean, it's better than "Sweet Caroline" (marginally), but...
  8. It was indistinguishable from what they do at Casa-de-MFYs. In the top of the first, chant a player's name until they wave to the seats in the outfield. Continue with all players on the field except pitcher and catcher. It was noticeable in the middle level near the press box. -- Random note that I forgot from before: I had a ticket that offered access to the various Mets "clubs" so I figured I would make a stop by if for nothing else than a shorter line to get some food. People ahead of me try to order the lobster roll (it's on the giant menu board) and they are told "we don't have that today." I order next, ask for one of those new signature sandwiches they advertised. Am told the same thing, "we don't have that today." I ask if perhaps they were waiting for a day when there would be a bigger crowd in the park to offer the full menu. Get a blank stare back. Now, I know the person at the counter has little control over the situation. This one is on stadium management. You'd think they'd at least have the premium concessions working...but I guess not. Sometimes, they really make it hard to love this stadium.

It's his bad luck he had to play for the Yankees, because there are teams where he'd definitely be in the top four. I'd put Rivera ahead of Jeter too.
  10. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: So was it the 7-Line Army guys responsible for the Yankee-like chants, and beer spilling? My Twitter feed seems to think so? Only the idiotic roll-call. They should be ashamed. It's not "their thing;" it's something the idiot Yankee fans do and should be left at that stadium. The beer-throwing moron was in the "clubhouse," the group seating area behind the right field fence.
  11. Nice game. Big crowd (said it was a record) but sedate because of the low scoring. On that subject, I really worry where our offense is going to come from this year. Only player booed during introductions was Ruben Tejada. Strangely Jeff Francoeur was loudly cheered when introduced with the Phillies reserves. (Does everyone not remember how he wasn't any good for the Mets?) Some lesser cheers for Phillies coach Steve Henderson. Loudest Mets cheers for Wright, Colon and Harvey, approximately in that order. Fan idiocy discussed above. I'm generally in favor of a loud cheering section in the outfield but please stop embarrassing Mets fans with that roll-call B.S. In his first plate appearance, Duda showed bunt. I would like him to do that more. Best way to stop those shifts. Finally, we seem to be finally done with "Takin' Care of Business" after a win. Couldn't make out the victory song as I was making a quick exit.
  12. Heavy idiot factor at today's game already. First, we have the idiots in the center field seats doing a roll-call in the top of the first. We can have our own traditions, thanks. Stop doing that. Also, when Murphy hit his double, a fan threw a beer at Sizemore. Not cool.
  13. That's the "Jhonny Peralta/Melky Cabrera rule," I believe. Seems to me that Peralta finished serving a suspension about a week before the Tigers made the playoffs in 2013(?) and was eligible. Cabrera was a big part of the Giants in 2012 but they left him off the postseason roster anyway (to no big detriment).
  14. I can honestly say I think you're full of it and I don't believe you for a second when you say that you "no idea" how the banned substance wound up in your body.

  16. I guess you use Duda to hit for Flores now?
  17. Riiiiiiight. About 200% more optimistic than I would have been the last few years.
  18. Gary called it a "shocking mental error" by David. Going to need another homer from you, David.
  19. Very nice, Rafael. One more.
  20. Going to Need a strikeout here.
  21. Nice Mets debut for Gilmartin.
  22. 989: Sean Gilmartin
  23. Kaboom! X2
  24. 988: Alex Torres
