  1. As good a way to end it.
  2. Mickey Callaway, making dumb in-game choices all the way to the end.
  3. Girardi had success with difficult management in Miami, has experience as an in-game tactician, and dealing with a large media market. He's the kind of manager I want to see running the club. I'd accept other managerial choices too, but he seems to fit our needs pretty well.
  4. Harsh but true.
  5. I don't agree with this at all. Number retirement is for MLB Hall of Fame players. I could see — maybe — David Wright having a case due to extraordinarily bad luck combined with playing his entire career as a Met. But that's borderline. Jerry Koosman? First-ballot in the Mets Hall of Fame, sure. Number retirement? No way.
  6. That also means an extra win for Atlanta. Admittedly, it's getting way ahead of ourselves, but it'd be ideal if the last 3 games against Atlanta meant nothing to the Braves (currently 4.5 behind LA for best league record/getting to face the WC team in the first round of the playoffs).
  7. Unless Cano hits a GIDP, I would hit for Lugo next.
  8. No reason to only be implicit. Mickey isn't the reason they won't make the playoffs. But he didn't help, and I don't think he deserves to return as manager next year.
  9. Interesting choice to not hit for Rivera.
  10. deGrom is lined up to pitch the WC game or any tiebreaker game on regular rest. Now, I realize that's irrelevant unless you get there, but it seems to make sense to keep the rotation as it is, unless we think that deGrom making regular starts on short rest is more advantageous.
  11. They shouldn't sign Rendon because of playing time concerns for McNeil??? Nope. McNeil can play 4 positions (and I bet he could play 1B too. Maybe even short also). He'll be an everyday player without a problem. His flexibility is an asset. If there's one thing that bring a Mets fan has taught me, it's that the team always has injuries somewhere. Do I think there's a snowball's chance in hell that Cano plays 130 games next year? Nope. 120? Doubt it. 100? Wouldn't bet on it. Conforto and Nimmo have had their injuries woes too. Not to mention Lowrie. You sign Rendon because he's the best talent available and you need offense. If you have too many healthy players, great. Of course I don't think they WILL do it. As for trading Syndergaard? That's an awful idea. What would you plausibly in return that would improve the team?
  12. We still play “God Bless America” at the games (forced patriotism left over from this tragedy) but can't do a one-game tribute that is actually meaningful. Awful.
  13. They missed a big opportunity not signing Manny Machado this offseason. They can correct it (somewhat) by signing Anthony Rendon. Act like the big market team you are. They also need to resign Wheeler. Bench: I'd pick up Lagares' option. You've got him, Smith, JD Davis/Cano (platoon with McNeil at 2nd/Left)?, Lowrie, and a backup catcher as the bench. Not a bad start. Find a couple more pieces for depth. If Cespedes ever plays a game for the Mets again, great. I'll believe it when I see it. Bullpen: I'll admit I have fewer ideas here. But relievers do seem to be plentiful and maybe we can do a better job of identifying good ones. Add in a new manager (and I don't hate the idea of Girardi) and that to me is a playoff caliber, befitting-of-the-NY-market team.
  14. Without a playoff appearance, there's no way Callaway returns, right? Right?
  15. Haggerty was already used to run after the Davis HBP.
  16. Panik instead of Frazier??
  17. That was my experience as well. And it is completely fixable: hire enough people and get enough security screening points set up to move people in faster. But the Mets can't be bothered. Nevermind the fact that the security theater is so offensively ineffective. And that having thousands of fans stuck outside in those lines creates an exponentially greater safety risk.
  18. I understand we are unlikely to win, but still. If you are unable to take a free hit, Robinson Cano, then you need to take bunting practice every single day until you learn.
  19. Might not have necessarily, but with Davis making the last out, sure.
  20. You are down 6 runs and they are giving you a free single. Learn to freakin bunt.
  21. Other teams are irrelevant to this point, and raising them is whataboutism at its worst.
  22. You're not wrong but perhaps that is taking this off topic a bit. Seawolf raises an interesting point: are the Mets fans solidly pro-Syndergaard? And if so, would the front office still try to denigrate him regardless? Consider, eg., the “not a superstar” comment about someone else the fanbase was completely behind.
  23. I think the Mets don't see Syndergaard as remaining with the team long-term and portraying him negatively in this way is fairly benign towards trade value while having the effect of making Syndergaard look bad in the eyes of the fanbase. Syndergaard would hardly be the first player whose long-term status with the team was “in flux” (potential trade/contract extension looming) to have been spoken ill of by the organization. I was also surprised to see both Callaway and Van Wegenen commenting on the story to the press. I'd have just declined comment as it was an internal issue. As for whether it was an intentional leak by the organization: I suppose it could well have been a leak by another player as well. I don't think that is as likely. A deliberate leak by Syndergaard? Possible, but why? I agree the details in the story (“simmering all season,” ”half-hour sit-down,” “implored multiple times”) do not suggest an accidental leak by anyone.
  24. He leaves the Red Sox behind with huge salary obligations and a dearth of prospects in the farm system. Which is not dissimilar to how he left the Tigers. I'd still take his results though.
  25. Interesting story in the Post, citing “industry sources.” https://nypost.com/2019/09/09/noah-syndergaard-confronts-mets-bosses-over-wilson-ramos-frustration/https://nypost.com/2019/09/09/noah-syndergaard-confronts-mets-bosses-over-wilson-ramos-frustration/ To me, this stinks of the Mets once again leaking unflattering information about a player for a stupid reason.
