  1. Thirty-six games into the 2019 season, Pete Alonso has more home runs (11) than Edwin Diaz has saves (9).
  2. Canogratulations to the reformed ex-MFY.
  3. One run in and I'm as awake as I'm gonna be — Let's Go Mets!
  4. The Mets, the Mets, a helluva town Wilmer Font is up, Corey Oswalt is down It's a DP when Ramos hits one on the ground The Mets, The Mets... They're a helluva town!
  5. Fuck A-Rod and that whole era's "but wait, we're getting word that there might be another team in New York besides the MFYs" ethos. Also, it took me a concentrated glance to realize that's an apple David's tossing. The Strawberry Statement indeed seems to be, "We don't very good layout artists here at the Daily News Sunday Magazine." Willie deserves a better cover than Jet gave him. By default, the opening, non-committal salvo from the 1986 World Series will do. I appreciate the grandeur of the moment if not the moment that's depicted. I predict SI will have better news to present soon.
  6. Mets are due for a "more runs in one inning than they've scored in their last six games combined" outburst, which is to say maybe they'll score three or four tonight.
  7. I feel like this streak is worthy of a thread split. Yeoman's work my friend. Can you clarify the streak? Obviously, attending in person and watching on TV count. How about listening by radio? Checking Gamecast at work? Checking the score by phone? At the game; watching on TV; and/or listening on radio. I guess a live, ongoing accounting via Gamecast would be legit in this day and age, but it never came down to that as my only option during the period in question. Getting the score intermittently via a third-party source, as in "Mets 3 Nats 2 T-5" flashing on my phone, wouldn't be enough, though it would also be better than nothing. I'd liken that kind of update to calls to Sportsphone when I was in college or peering at the ESPN crawl from the edge of an airport bar while waiting to board a flight, and though that sort of grasping for in-progress details is an inevitable part of the fan experience, I never thought of those instances as consuming the game live. Basically, if I could say "I caught at least part of the game," it counted (usually it was most or all of the game). On May 6, 2019, I couldn't say it.
  8. While one streak, the losing, reaches four, another snaps. Enough circumstances converged to put me to sleep before first pitch and not wake me until after last pitch, telecast ensuing in front of me notwithstanding. First Mets game I've missed in its entirety since July 29, 2010. The streak was 1,388 regular-season games (plus 15 postseason contests). The record was 669-719 (plus 8-7). If only the sound of Met lumber had shaken me from my slumber.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: You still say, "DL"? What are you — racist? I heard Eddie Coleman refer to Citi Field as Shea Stadium during a pregame show last week and sort of enjoyed how familiar it sounded, but yeah, ingrained habits are hard to break. IL. The aforementioned transaction was the IL. No disrespect intended to the differently abled.
  10. Vargas to DL, Oswalt back. Wilson off DL, Peterson down.
  11. I find myself wondering when we call for a young player to be sent to Triple-A if what we seek is an improvement on his part or just a blow from having to watch him on our part.
  12. That David Wright cover is striking. That Darryl Strawberry cover is memorable. That Frank Cashen cover is merited. But today is Willie Mays's 88th birthday, and I ain't voting against him today.
  13. In addition to Pete Alonso being named NL Rookie of the Month for April, Noah Syndergaard is NL Player of the Week for April 29-May 5.
  14. Rooting for a clutch pitcher to come through in a tough spot.
  15. In addition to Vargas's mild hamstring tightness, Matz is back in NY being examined for nerve irritation in his left arm.
  16. A deeper appreciation of who Travis was and what he seemed destined to be: http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/04/29/a-portrait-of-the-artist-as-a-young-catcher/http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/04/29/a-portrait-of-the-artist-as-a-young-catcher/
  17. Dodgers have signed Td'A, envision his versatility. https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/travis-d-arnaud-dodgers-deal.htmlhttps://www.mlb.com/amp/news/travis-d-arnaud-dodgers-deal.html He was the catcher of record for a National League champion, no small thing. He wasn't a successor to Molina and Posey, which we were led to believe he'd be.
  18. The Mets have now lost the penultimate game of their annual Miller Park series eleven consecutive seasons. The last time they won their second-to-last game in Milwaukee was September 2, 2008, when rookie Jonathon Niese, in his major league debut coughed up five runs in three-plus innings but was rescued by the sturdy Mets pen of Nelson Figueroa, Duaner Sanchez, Brian Stokes, Pedro Feliciano, Joe Smith and closer Luis Ayala. Met runs were driven in by Carlos Beltran (3-run HR), Endy Chavez, Damion Easley and father of future rookie sensation Fernando Tatis, Jr., Fernando Tatis, Sr.
  19. 173. Adeiny Hechavarria 05/04/2019
  20. 1077. Adeiny Hechavarria
  21. Better to break him in alongside Gary Cohen than Gary Apple.
  22. Luis Avilan joins Justin Wilson and Jeurys Familia in the Injured Lists's bullpen. Chris Flexen is up with the big club for some reaason.
  23. Tonight: Restore the Bore.
  24. Td'A released.
  25. Needs to simplify his rap a bit and quit shouting a lot. Has promise.
