  1. Perhaps the St. Pete eagle eyes can confirm whether Casey is indeed standing upon the Sadecki Spot.
  2. The subject of Sunday supplements I didn't save (from Round 1.22) leads me here to recall a magazine called Sports History, which had Tom Seaver in classic pitching form on its cover in 1989 to recall the 1969 Mets at twenty. I bought it at LaGuardia and saved the cover for years...but not enough years to be of any use to the Derby. Tried to find an image online but didn't have any success. I don't know if it will trickle in from somebody else's collection, but this contest has made me search the attic of my mind. Here's the title if not the issue in question: https://www.amazon.com/Sports-History-Magazine-February-Packers/dp/B001ZI9BKQhttps://www.amazon.com/Sports-History-Magazine-February-Packers/dp/B001ZI9BKQ
  3. The Daily News Sunday magazine is something I forgot existed. For years I had a cover from 1979 on my bedroom wall, exclaiming that "If this team has a future, its name is MAZZILLI," which I'd be tickled to see pop up in this competition. I notice the date Grimm listed in April 11, the first game the Mets played, while the date on the cover is April 8. It's an understandable Mets fan muscle memory switch. I'm also now remembering that Newsday had a Sunday magazine called LI and they in 1979 had the tenth anniversary of the 1969 Mets on their cover, using various '70s baseball cards and generally taking a tone of despair in describing the plunge the franchise had taken over the previous decade. I had saved that for years, too. If I had known a Cover Derby was coming, I would have held on to it many years longer. Doc's looking good, NY indeed HEARTs baseball and Seaver deserves what he can get, but I'm in a Sunday supplement state of mind.
  4. Fantastic story. Quite a trip through Met time that ball took.
  5. Jake Arrieta called out Bryce Harper for being a dope in getting ejected Monday night. Will Harper process the constructive criticism and channel his aggression toward Zack Wheeler? Or will the heretofore golden boy of Philadelphia implode like a Washington National in October? Tune in at 7:10 to find out. Our Zack will go up against their Zach, who obviously isn't blessed with spelling and stuff.
  6. Jake MRI OK. On track to start at end of week.
  7. Frazier, Guillorme back; Wilson to IL (elbow soreness), Sewald to Syracuse. Cano not in lineup after non-HBP. Rosario also.out with flu symptoms.
  8. =bmfc1 post_id=7912 time=1555960377 user_id=73] Why is Warren Cromartie in the operating room?
  9. Frazier expected to be activated tonight. No corresponding move yet announced.
  10. Pennant pressure takes its toll on all of us.
  11. Joe Morgan, 1970 Houston Astro?
  12. I was moved to look this up by the thought that with four home runs -- including two that were so colorful (Pete's and Noah's) -- there should be happiness throughout the land. Yet that was at odds with my gut feeling that solo home runs, despite each counting for one run, are spiritually useless. As tiebreakers, they're fantastic. As building blocks, they can be inadequate.
  13. More likely Gelbs interviews random ex-player or SNY sponsor during operation. Warren, after you finished up in North America, you had some success playing in Japan, as Eddie gets another stitch to make certain that kidney is secure. How would you say the game differed in the Far East versus what fans in the US and Canada are familiar with?
  14. Read more about the surfeit of solo home run futility http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/04/22/cant-any-bunny-here-play-this-game/here.
  15. Sunday 4/21 marked the fourth time in Mets history in which four solo home runs accounted for all their scoring. They've never won any of those games. The first three were in each of their home parks: the Polo Grounds in 1962; Shea Stadium in 1997; Citi Field in 2017. Sunday's was the first road game. The margin of defeat, in chronological order, has descended incrementally: 9-4 in 1962; 8-4 in 1997; 7-4 in 2017; 6-4 yesterday. So we're making progress.
  16. Raining in the Metropolitan Area at the moment. In the 11368 forecast for this evening as well.

  20. Newsday reports Ed Kranepool has a donor lined up for his kidney procedure, scheduled to take place early next month at Stony Brook University Hospital. All goes well, knock your surface of choice, No. 7 will be lining up with his teammates at Citi Field in late June.
  21. 0x-fkSYDtUY Matz out of it!
  22. We need to be Cher to the Mets' Nicolas Cage as the battle for NL East supremacy sets down in Citi Field. Matz versus Arrieta. Harper still sucks.
  23. Latest word: threw today, feels better, might be no MRI, planning to pitch when off the IL.
