    well i don't think it normally would match anymore than a batter's batting average will match his expected batting average (a stat i dont really understand) but i think the further you get from the pythagorean record the more likely you are to fall (or climb) back to earth. put another way, i'm pretty sure that with a large enough sample size (say the past 10 seasons?) if you took every team's record at the 81-game mark their second-half record will more closely approximate their pythagorean record than it will their actual record

    Bret is right about that, the umps pull the ejection card way too early causing pitchers to feel like they arent allowed to pitch inside. if a pitcher throws inside and it hits the batter just take your base and shut your mouth, barring a clemens/benitez throw that is clearly intentional the umps shouldnt even warn anyone.

    considering that most people in a fantasy baseball league don't check every day (you can set your lineup in advance) i felt 4 days was a good amount for waivers, waivers shouldnt be about who happens to be logged on at 4:00am when an owner drops a potential all-star or a team calls up a top prospect that Yahoo didn't have on the free agent list (hey Cole!) As for trades I hope we never have to void one, but in the unlikely event that someone trades Alex Rodriguez for Endy Chavez the league needs time to step in.

    You might argue that Soler should go first because he is older and there's alot less for a 27 year old to learn, he's either ready or he never will be.

    Valentin decided to have a hot week and save his undeserved roster spot for another month or two

    And I think their being concentrated in the 9th is why we remember them and comment on them the next time Wright makes an error. Reyes probably has 3 or 4 this year and i can't remember a single one of them, but i have 3 of wright's stuck in my head because of when they came. if reyes made an error tommorow in the 9th i don't think anyone who start calling him error-prone or question his fielding.
