  1. apparently chipper still owns the Mets. 2-1 bad guys
  2. Hietpas' lack of walks for a guy new to the mound is encouraging.
  3. soupcan wrote: ="metirish"]Mightn't the last home run Bonds ever hits be worth more than this one? Yes, I completely agree. sell quickly (before his career ends) and this guy should get a ton of money.
  4. Milledge leads off the 5th with a double, its not too late...
  5. metirish wrote: Obviously Willie is sending a message to Castro, any idea what that might be? "You don't make as much money as LoDuca and you don't whine to the media the way he does, so I'm just gonna have to sit you."
  6. ]Joe Morgan remains relentless in providing expertly stated nonsense. Last night, during Mets-Cubs on ESPN, Luis Castillo stuck with a windblown popup, making a nice catch. But Morgan explained the play as the result of Castillo being unfamiliar with the winds in Wrigley Field because, Castillo has played his entire career in the American League. But Castillo played 10 years in the NL, all with the Marlins. In fact, it was Castillo who hit the infamous fly that spectator Steve Bartman caught - before Moises Alou could - in the 2003 NLCS at Wrigley. Last season, with the Twins, was his first in the AL. In the top of the fifth, Morgans partner, Jon Miller, noted that Castillo has played before in Wrigley. Morgan said nothing. this is completely typical of a Clueless Joe broadcast.
  7. we're getting there, and thats not a bad line for a young guy in his first full season
  8. another nice win, especially with this crap lineup
  9. 3-2 Mets on a Delgado double! (goes to 3rd on a throw home)
  10. pretty obvious move. i have no idea why it isnt Gotay 2nd newhan 8th....then again theres no reason for newhan to be starting over milledge in the first place.

  12. ]I've never heard of this reliever - Carlos Marmol - but he's got some good numbers after putting up some pretty lousy ones in his 1st year last season. he's a pretty well-regarded prospect, they expect him to become the closer
  13. 7 walks for the Mets and nobody in yet...
  14. Neifi Perez suspended for banned substances, wow.
  15. cleonjones11 wrote: keep Alou as a fourth outfielder when he's not hurt? why, exactly, do you prefer Shawn Green's presense in the lineup to Moises Alou's? If your answer doesn't involve statistics or something other than "i hate alou, alou sucks" please don't bother answering.

  17. its lame is what it is.
  18. ]For instance, ensuring that the best team comes out on top of the league 85 percent of the time would require 10,000 games per season a dream come true! year-round baseball with daily quadruple-headers! 20-man pitching rotations! Bonds' record shattered by Joe McEwing!
  19. a little less impressive with all those walks. Was it A.J. Burnett who had a no-hitter with about 8 walks?
  20. i don't think you're ever "good" on a first-pitch extra-base hit. Mota has a 5 ERA, a decent whip (for a reliever) of 1.22. anyone have his inherited runner stats?
  21. Willets Point wrote: Julio Franco was released by the Braves yesterday. In his long career, how many pitchers do you think he's faced? Bonus questions: How many of those pitchers are already retired? How many of the pitchers Franco faced are now in the Hall of Fame? No looking up the answers! Closest without going over wins. Once some folks have taken some guesses, I'll share the great resource that was the source of this trivia question. I'll guess he faced about 2600 different pitchers, that 2400 of them are now officially retired, and that 6 of them are now in the Hall of Fame Hall of Famers that I would guess he faced: Steve Carlton, Dennis Eckersley, Ferguie Jenkins, Nolan Ryan, Bruce Sutter, Phil Niekro. that last number should skyrocket soon as I'm sure he has faced Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Roger Clemens, whatever modern era relievers get in (Rivera? Hoffman?) and the 3-5 starters currently pitching that aren't locks yet but will get there
  22. he was a terrible signing, no doubt about that. i like Sosa as the longman if we're going to just fill-in with Pelfrey/Lawrence/whoever until Pedro gets back, I'd probably demote Sele if theres a short reliever who we can get that will actually help. I don't trust Schoenweis but I have even less faith right now in Mota, has it occured to everyone else that THIS is the "real" Mota and that any past successes are attributable to the performance enhancing drugs for which he was suspended?
