  2. AG/DC wrote: ="John Cougar Lunchbucket"]Oh, we can find room. Not be Panicky Penelope, but seemed we had more legit *contenders* for that call-up, spot-start spot last year than we do right now and remember we needed each and every one of those stiffs (Park, Vargas, Lawrence, Sele etc etc etc) When John Maine siezed a place in the rotation two seasons ago, he had shown up in camp 12th or 13th on the depth chart of starting pitching options, behind the likes of Yusaku Iriki. We have nothing like that kind of redundancy right now, and I think New Orleans can use a Patterson or two. Most definitely, but is he willing to go to New Orleans instead of seeking more immediate opportunity in say Pittsburgh or Cincinatti?
  3. He had a good season in 2005, he hasn't had another full season his entire career and he's 29. Theres enough potential that if he's willing to go to AAA and come up when Martinez/duque gets hurt and/or Pelfrey is ineffective that would be great. but i don't see him as worth a roster spot right now if he insists on pitching in MLB on april 1st.

  10. i'd like to work at a law firm where i can make my secretary do fantasy baseball work for me. the draft was fun, i think my hitting is the best in the league, by intention, but my pitching turned out worse than i expected, i waited a couple of rounds too long on the last 'acceptable' starters.
  11. adios pansy, the more the merrier! congrats on first pick. i got last pick, i dont mind the turn. i also got what i really wanted...to be FAR away from BoyNamedSeo in the draft order because lat year he took some guys i wanted right before my pick. its harder to get as upset when the guy you want goes 10 picks before you,
  12. 5:45 PM EST. just a reminder
  13. 99% of names will find a way to get ridiculed, who the hell cares

  15. The idea that the Mets have maxxed out their budget is pretty hard for me to swallow (and I'm not accusing you of making this point, its just a predicate to my argument.) Its like they are the D-Rays and can honestly say (and i don't want to argue the point over whether the Rays can say this its just an example) that adding money now means going into the red for the year. I don't think the Mets are going to say to Minaya "X is your budget, we're sorry you just can't have Adam Dunn." They're going to analyze the cost of a given move and decide if they think the likely effect of that move on the win total and income (some acquisitions, like a star player, fill the seats or sell jerseys even if they are not necessary) is worth their money. My guess is that they'd decide $10 million isn't worth it for Crisp, unless they think that between Alou's time on the DL and whatever injury Beltran will suffer they can get Crisp 500 ABs, I doubt they want to pay 10 million for a bench player, and thats not because they can't afford to add 10 mil to the payroll.
  16. much as i enjoy schaefering every april i tend give it up as too time consuming at some point, and once i stop for a week or two i jus don't care to start again, i'm sure this year will be no different.
  17. ]Maybe. Better evidence is that he's simply a year older and players tend to get better as they approach 30. i think evidence has shown that the average "peak" year is lower than 30, most hitters will NOT tend to get better until 30 but until somewhere in the 26-28 range, or so i've seen somewhere. and yeah Church is alot better than the media gives him credit for. If he repeats last year's numbers I'm happy to have him, if he approaches his rate stats from 2006 over a full season I'd be very very happy.
  18. ]Curious what Endy Chavez might have shown you through 2005. Curious what convinces you even that Chavez is better than Pagan right now. my point wasn't that Chavez was clearly better right now, only that the same people talking up Pagan after a few spring at bats will be calling for a replacement for him if he isn't hitting in a few days of real games.
  19. so Pagan has gotten better and the evidence is 2 weeks of spring training numbers? i understand wanting to be enthusiastic about a new acquisition, but i don't understand letting 30 at bats that don't even count make a dent in the perception of a guy that 313 major league and 2400+ minor league ABs that a guy has already racked up.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: No it isn't. We have a vacancy in left field for opening day plus a good five or six weeks following that. a couple of 0-5's in April and everyone will be begging for Endy Chavez or even yelling "Why isn't Fernando ready?" Pagan has never really showed himself to be much of a hitter before and i'm not about to let a couple of weeks of spring training numbers convince me that he's any better than his 318 MLB ABs the last two years (.255/.306/.415) or his last full season (2005 at Norfolk .271/.333/.395) say he is.
  21. he's certainly playing his way onto the team, but its just spring training, talk of him starting is very premature
  22. i like your method but lets define the numbers Well control is easy, we ca use a number equal to the number of years left on the contract/until FA (but max 5) youth is similarly easy, 24 and under is 5, 25-26 is 4, 27-28 is 3, 29-30 is 2, 31-32 is 1, over 32 is 0. how do you want to scale provenness and talent? i think we need a few other rules to compare organizations: -we're looking for the CORE of the organization, not the entire org, so anyone under lets say a 12-15 total should be left out. -anyone in the low minors, anyone not likely to make an impact in MLB in 2008 is being left out as well, i don't care how hyped you are, you arent part of the team's core if you aren't ready to help yet, we're not judging farm systems.
  23. Good summary as always Vic. I haven't seen it in awhile, but wasn't there a funny caveman seen at the beginning of History of the World? I'm not planning on seeing B.C.
