My concern isn't with him leaving after one, it's with him having the second and third years guaranteed only if he's bad. I agree completely with the big orange guy, If Drew & his agent think the market for him will be better next offseason then we should be willing to offer a 1 year deal, no further risk to either side. If Drew wants the security of a multi-year deal, he should accept the risk that the Mets get a good price on him if he plays well.
  2. that was awesome. Could we borrow those cannons for a trip to Turner Field?
  3. The evidence that would have been made public by MLB is likely what scared Arod off, though litigation costs might have helped too. I'm glad the Yankees will still be on the hook for him NEXT year when he'll be 40 years old and 18 months removed from his last major league at-bat.
  4. They've got 4 clips from Somers up, his monologue and Cohen, Rose and Darling: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/audio-on-demand/steve-somers/
  5. BA calls him the "most athletic" player in the system (those labels arent necessarily anything to get excited about... the guy they call the fastest isnt even a legit prospect, but hey, he has track speed), but he's been hyped at least since last season and with Cecchini looking down last year he is probably looked at as the future at SS. But he's young enough and far enough away that the Mets certainly shouldnt be making any current MLB roster decisions because of him, this isnt Xander Bogaerts.

  8. Gotta love Satan going out and trying to learn a position, i do hope he is on the 25.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Eight weeks until Opening Day. And what, three weeks until position players report to spring training? I would think that this has to be resolved fairly soon. Resolved by reporting to st lucie.! How much does Tejada have to be sweating this out right now? Checking espn every hour just hopeing this guy signed elsewhere.
  10. Keith posts his top 10 for each NL team today. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10372008/national-league-east-top-10-prospects-team-2014-mlb we knew his top 5 from the top 100 (Syndegaard, d'Arnaud, Smith, Montero, Nimmo) and he rounds that out with Plawecki, Herrera, Flores, Puello, and Rosario. He also mentions #11-15 in the body of article: Cecchini, Ynoa, deGrom, Fulmer, and Tapia. He lists Rosario as the sleeper to really move up and the only disappoint from last year being Cecchini who didnt hit at Brooklyn.

There would be parades in the streets if they would just Sell the Team Now!! I don't even think they are the least popular owners in New York.
  13. The worst defensive shortstop ever plays across town, sp why not?
  14. seawolf17 wrote: I don't know that Tejada's the answer either, but spending good money and a draft pick on a guy who's going to strike out 140 times and hit .250 and is eight years older isn't the answer either. I still pass. A 3rd round draft pick really shouldnt be stopping a team from signing a guy.
  15. Cyclones games are a ton of fun for anyone who hasnt been. Much more so than the Staten Island Yankees in the same league. This is mostly because the Yankees play in a stadium next to the Staten Island Ferry, making them more convenient by public transit but there is NOTHING to do in the area. By contrast, going to an evening game in Brooklyn can be a heck of a lot of fun spending the day on the boardwalk as well.
  16. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: also was the answer to a "Who Am I" trivia question at the sabr meeting. Name a guy with 366 career home runs -- only 1 with the Yankees. Also hit a postseason MFY HR. The low point of his career.
  17. Mlb actually mentioned Smith as the #2 first base prospect in the minors, but that wasnt good enough to vrack the top 100. Keith Law's top 100 is out today: 24 Syndergaard, with alot of praise 36 d'Arnaud, with the comment that he is top 10 if healthy 37 Smith, suprise, Keith is higher on Smith than most scouts ive read. Keith basically says he belongs in the sally league, not brooklyn this year. 60 Montero 92 Nimmo Keith really loves the Mets
  18. Looking at the Mets roster, its hard to see a situation where there are in a playoff race and in desperate need of starting pitching where they try to rush Harvey back. The formula for a Mets playoff race probably involves very strong starting pitching carrying the offensive offense along for the ride anyway.
  19. Ashie62 wrote: So the deal is 7/155 and I assume add 20 million for posting. Will Tenaka be a fat pussy toad??? Only the shadow knows.... Off topic..but seeing money flying around like this makes me wish Sandy would call Stephen Drews agent and get er dun. Its only money for chrissakes... Lets Go Mets!!! its only someone else's money you mean.

  21. Edgy MD wrote: MLB Pipeline has been releasing lists of top prospects by position. Yesterday, they have released the catcher rankings, with d'Arnaud on top and Plawecki given special honorable mention as a heatseeker just outside of the top ten. Today, they released the first base rankings, with Dom Smith number two. Syndergaard 3rd on the RHP rankings
  22. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Ashie62 wrote: replay feels cumbersome and I just don't think it is needed... I'd also ban the batting helmet. It emboldens the batter, thus giving him an unfair advantage over the pitcher. And teams should have to use Amtrak to travel from city to city. I realize you are being facetious, but I WOULD look into banning those giant armor-like sleeves that some batters wear... or at least make a rule that if you get hit on one of those things it is a 'ball' (or strike in the zone which is already the rule) and you don't get to go to first base on a 'hit by pitch' unless it was ball 4 anyway. *Except fielder's touching of second on double play stupid. if you dont want force-plays to be reviewable it should apply everywhere. Overall, the rules may help with accuracy in officiating but i'm not sure they are worth the increase in game times.
  23. For the prediction archives, though i think i have said this before, Plawecki will have a better career than d'Arnaud. Also, Kevin just got engaged (according to twitter), so congrats!

If he wants to talk to MLB or even sell them information thats fine, but it shouldnt lessen or delay his criminal punishment. That's what disturbed me in the BALCO case too, that the prosecutors seemed more interested in finding the end users than they were in Victor Conte. One generally sees law enforcement trying to use the addicts in order to flip the dealer, not the other way around the way they did with the BALCO case. But of course MLB isn't a law enforcement entity, they are only interested in their little corner of the world and all this, remember, came not out of a criminal investigation but rather a small local newspaper so I'm not really sure what law enforcement's attitude has been toward all this. Given the things that Bosch has admitted to their attitude should be "lets see how long can we put him away for"
