  2. 3 years for Span at 31 mil? not the worst deal IF your doctors say he is ok.
  3. Ceetar wrote: the problem is they're not just _first responder_ hats. The damn things say NYPD and they're probably worse than the Wilpons. God Bless the NYPD.
  4. Vic Sage wrote: you don't think Vlad will get in eventually? or just on first ballot? Because he's getting in, and he won't have to wait long. He was one of the most dominant hitters of his era and his rate numbers are better than Griffey's... he just didn't hang around for a decade of declining play. i was just talking next year. easy to forget how good Vlad was as he spent most of his career in the obscurity of Montreal. Vlad's hitting was pretty similiar to Giffey's on a per at-bat basis, Griffey managed 2,000 more Plate Appearances. Griffey was hurt a lot for a decade, but i wouldnt say he was "hanging around" until those last 2 years in Seattle. Guerrero had a strong arm but was an otherwise below average defender in RF. Griffey was a very good defensive CF for half his career (and maybe out of position for the 2nd half, Jeter-style)
  5. that is an idea i can get on board with!
  6. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Nymr83 wrote: you're right about the control as it looked then, I was thinking of when they all ultimately left Well, the big three (Seaver, Kooz and Matlack) were all eventually traded. It'll probably happen to the majority of the current starting pitchers, too. Harvey probably gets dealt because of who his agent is, i don't fault the Mets for that, i'd deal any player who didn't want to sign before testing the market (a Boras staple). i suspect we keep deGrom and Syndergaard through their next big contract and then Wheeler &/or Matz depending on who get hurt and how they pitch.
  7. i dont think any of those guys go in on the first ballot, Pudge probably gets 50%.
  8. you're right about the control as it looked then, I was thinking of when they all ultimately left
  9. the good pitching in a winnable division comparison is probably accurate, and the '15 phillies probably partial explanation to why the '15 mets won 90 games, but the 15 club's strength was younger pitching under control for longer though. and i think the 73 team had nothing like d'Arnaud/Conforto as far as talented young position players either. for this reason the '15 team is in a better position to contend going forward even if they don't make key additions this offseason, where the '73 team was doomed if they didnt get better right away.
  10. A 3-run HR that makes a 6-2 lead into a 9-2 lead is nice, but a 2-run double that turns a 2-1 loss into a 3-2 win is nicer. All hits are not created equal so just looking at season totals doesn't tell the whole story. ok, sure, but anecdotal remembrances aside, Cespedes was no better, and arguably worse, than Murphy/Duda in these big spots. Duda killed the ball when the Mets were behind but barely hit when they were ahead. Cespedes saves his best hitting for when the Mets are ahead.CespedesPABAOBPSLGOPSPABAOBPSLGOPS Late & Close390.1880.3330.4060.740Within 3 R2020.2800.3320.6020.934 Tie Game840.2370.2980.5000.798Within 4 R2160.2830.3380.6210.959 Within 1 R1320.2540.3030.4920.795Margin > 4 R330.3130.3330.5000.833 Within 2 R1670.2860.3350.6040.939Ahead1030.3540.3980.7081.106 Behind620.2410.2900.5690.859 DudaPABAOBPSLGOPSPABAOBPSLGOPS Late & Close1010.2580.3470.4040.751Within 3 R4610.2530.3640.4760.840 Tie Game1740.2470.3680.4040.772Within 4 R4900.2480.3590.4690.828 Within 1 R3330.2540.3690.4570.827Margin> 4 R640.2180.2970.6180.915 Within 2 R4050.2460.3630.4630.826Ahead2010.2080.3330.4520.786 Behind1790.2800.3580.5990.956 MurphyPABAOBPSLGOPSPABAOBPSLGOPS Late & Close840.2370.2860.4610.746Within 3 R4390.2830.3260.4570.783 Tie Game1840.3100.3370.4770.814Within 4 R4680.2820.3230.4570.780 Within 1 R3070.3010.3390.4690.807Margin> 4 R700.2730.3140.3940.708 Within 2 R3860.2950.3390.4750.814Ahead1950.3100.3640.5110.876 Behind1590.2120.2520.3440.596

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'm certain it will happen, particularly because Piazza has been such an ally of the Wilpons all these years, careful to have never said a bad thing about the organization and outspoken in his desire to identify as a Met. Cynical me thinks this is all to some degree calculated or bought and paid for on some level, but at least it gives fans what they want. I think 'calculated' is probably more accurate, he knows and the Wilpons know that staying friendly with each other is in both their best interests as far as good PR and future business opportunities.
  12. Hopefully the Veterans Committee will take care of Trammel as soon as they get the chance. Jim Edmonds. there are worse players in the hall. the ballot is just so clogged right now that he didnt even get a sniff
  13. Can't find a room? don't worry, the Mets have you covered (for a hefty fee I'm sure): https://www.sportstravelandtours.com/WebPackageListMLB.asp the rates are sky high and you won't even be staying in Cooperstown... rooms in ALBANY!
  14. batmagadanleadoff wrote: youtube song videos do in fact get taken down regularly for copyright reasons, Because they're copyrighted. Just because a song video is on youtube, doesn't mean that there's no copyright violation going on. I'm just sayin'. It doesn't bother me that youtube vids get posted here. But this new policy here isn't being applied evenly. Look, the internet has changed life so profoundly, and in ways that no one could have anticipated, that as far as these blog and forum postings go, the copyright holders have essentially thrown in the towel, conceding that it's futile and cost-inefficient to try and enforce their copyrights. So they don't. Or they pick and choose, singling out egregious violators. Recognizing also, that blog and forum use of their works is probably harmless and might even benefit them in other ways. This is much ado about nothing. And yeah, I'm not saying that I was singled out, or that someone premeditated this whole clusterfuck just to stick it to me. But if it was someone else posting long articles, and the articles weren't occasionally unpopular or critical ones, this thought never leaves the idea stage. And never gets legs. Youse woulda thought of it, and then thought: "Well I like that poster, I don't wanna mess with what he does, so I'll just keep the thought to myself. Instead, you get a thread that morphs into I'm putting a gun to your heads to force youse to read lengthy pieces that you have no interest in reading. i mistook your initial post as referring to music being posted to youtube, not music on youtube being posted to the forums.

  17. Griffey named on 99%, all but 3 ballots. can we kick those 3 guys out?

  19. youtube song videos do in fact get taken down regularly for copyright reasons, there seems to be a trend now to post the official music videos supported by ads though. kinda like how a newspaper article on the internet has ads paying for it and nobody sees those ads when you copy the entire article.
  20. Wagner just didnt pitch enough innings for me.
  21. editors at the post and news are pooling money to make this happen, think of the headlines!
  22. I'm seeing Murphy and Cespedes being placed ahead of Duda pretty consistently here. I think its neck and neck between Duda and Murphy, maybe I need to weigh the postseason more, but why Cespedes? are we giving him extra credit for being acquired at the deadline? Duda did more than him. 23. neutral, but really need more info
  24. a great post-career redemption for Piazza's defense. pitch-framing has only come into the public mind in the last few years, but i wonder how long some of the smarter teams have been keeping their own data
  25. moderator - fuck. please move this to baseball forum.
