  1. 50-50 chance. I voted for it being Wilson on the right because I seem to recall him looking rather boyish.
  2. It effectively cost them a roster spot. In the long run, given the way 2010 turned out, it probably didn't matter. But at the time, we didn't know that. The Mets were still a contending team until early July. Perez's stubbornness could have been very costly. Anyway, whether the selfishness proved harmful or not, it's not an admirable quality. It certainly can be considered grounds for not liking him.
  3. I doubt that Oliver Perez would affect the attendance, at least not in a positive way. I would guess that fans would be more motivated to go to a game that the Mets might win than a game where they'd be (unfairly or not) expected to lose. I also don't think a good winter and spring would redeem Ollie in the eyes of very many Mets fans, given how high the antipathy got. It will take considerably more than that.
  4. I'm confused by the subject line here. Is there a more famous Chris Young that I don't know about? (I'll have to check Wikipedia, I guess.) I assume you're not talking about the Christine Young who works for the same company I do.
  5. Mets who didn't play in 2010 (but did play in 2009)
  6. From 2005: Short Mets Tall Mets Big Mets Small Mets
  7. Me, I would never vote for ten. At most, one or two.
  8. Is this the first time around for Bagwell?
  9. Edgy DC wrote: I don't think there's anything bum-like about Warthan. Me neither. The Mets had the sixth-best ERA in the league last year which, while not spectacular, isn't at all bad. And Warthen has gotten strong endorsements from Pelfrey and Dickey, who'd know more about this issue than any of us here. I'd say that Warthen has earned his reinstatement.
  10. Pedro Feliciano is reportedly "leaning towards" accepting arbitration from the Mets.
  11. That would have to be Bob Aspromonte.
  12. Here's how it can turn out bad for us: Jeter leaves, Yankees sign Reyes to replace him. Jose wins three rings with the Yankees.
  13. Back page of the Daily News today says that Jeter wants $25 million per year over six years.
  14. I don't know that it would be ironic. It would, certainly, be a major step backwards.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: Garry Carter's 300th homer (drained the life out of that summer) It sure did. How long was he stuck on 299? I seem to remember it was something like five or six weeks.
  16. I really liked how she refrained from calling him "K-Rod" but then at the end she snuck one in there. Oh well. I've really been enjoying Julia on Dexter this season. We need to deputize somebody to invite her to come join us.
  17. Reyes frequently gets bashed in the Philadelphia Inquirer sports section. The "Mets-hating" portion of the media seems to like to make a lot of Jose's antics, while the "Mets friendly" portion doesn't at all. It's kind of like how some stories get covered on FOX and others on MSNBC.
  18. If Derek Jeter was a Met I'd be as excited about his 3,000th hit as I was about Gary Sheffield's 500th home run or Tom Glavine's 300th win. Which was not at all.
  19. I agree that the manager's first name should have figured more prominently in the decision. In fact, it should have been the primary consideration.
  20. The Daily News had Photoshopped images of Jeter in the uniforms of the Red Sox, Mets, Phillies, and Dodgers. The pictures accompanied a column by Mike Lupica that I tried to read but couldn't get past the second paragraph.
  21. Ceetar wrote: Unless I'm missing something, I don't see how the Yankees could lose by offering it. Well, they could end up having to pay him $20 million for 2011. If that's more than they want to spend, then they "lose."
  22. My kids are now old enough to go to the movies by themselves! We gave them money, dropped them off, and picked them up when it was over! That means that neither my wife nor I were forced to sit through a two-and-a-half-hour movie that neither of us cared to see! WOOOOOOO!!!!
  23. And the thing is, Francesa is such an idiot that it would never occur to him that Terry Collins might know more about the Mets farm system than he does.
  24. Terry will be the first Mets manager never to manage a game for the Mets at Shea Stadium. (I had to verify, but Mike Cubbage and Salty Parker did manage home games during their short stints. Cubbage just barely made the cut; only the first of his seven games was played at Shea.) At least Terry Collins did manage against the Mets at Shea when he was with Houston. Some day we'll have a Mets manager who never set foot in Shea Stadium.
