  1. If he's going to get residuals from the syndication of Modern Family, I'd say he's in pretty good shape. (I'm not sure that actors get any compensation from syndication, however.)
  2. Oops, poor timing has me posting an incorrect guess after the correct answer has been posted! Oh well.
  3. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Tommy Davis That would have been my guess too. But since it's taken, I'll chime in with Derek Bell. (Put not intended, by the way.)
  4. I'm gonna guess... Kevin McReynolds, but I won't say which question I'm guessing at.
  5. Let's add some more questions to the mix here. We have a shot at making this the most confusing thread ever!
  6. I think the "Doctors Calls" is a courtesy to the doctors themselves. In those days before cellphones and beepers, this would allow doctors to be reachable in case of an emergency to one of their patients. I don't think it was intended for the doctors to be on call to treat other fans.
  7. Neither do I. "Angst-ridden" is more like it.
  8. I'm sure the Mets would get the same "few hundred" people that the Red Sox got. That's really not all that impressive a number. I bet just about any team, even the Oakland A's, has a few hundred rabid fans who live close enough to the stadium to be motivated to come commemorate this little milestone.
  9. I don't know how you'd categorize What's Up Tiger Lily? but I thought it was hilarious.
  10. 1. Who opens the season as the Mets main firstbaseman? Davis? Duda? Satin? Flores? Some dude not currently in the system? Davis, but in a platoon with Satin. 2. Who opens the season as the Mets main shortstop? Tejada? Quintanilla? Tovar? Seratelli? Flores? I'm going to go out on a limb and say Stephen Drew. 3. The Mets opened the season with two entrenched outfielders and then went out and signed two more, both versatile. Bad news for somebody, right? What will the regular alignment be come April 1? Eric Young in left, Chris Young in center, and Curtis Granderson in right. (I'm hoping, however, for C. Young-Lagares-Granderson.) 4. Barring injury, Bartolo Colon, Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, and Zack Wheeler look to open the season as members of the Mets rotation? Whos's number five? Pretty much a huge field to pick from: Matsuzaka? Mejia? DeGrom? Torres? Lannan? Montero? Syndergaard? Mejia. 5. Backup catcher? Teagarden.
  11. This movie came out and I had no idea it was coming. With my youngest now 12 and a half, I realize that I'm now out of the loop when it comes to entertainment for younger kids. I remember years ago I had a co-worker whose youngest child was just a couple of years older than my oldest, and she had no idea who Spongebob Squarepants was. Now I think I'm in that situation; I have no idea what newer shows the six-year-olds of the world are watching. The best thing about this is that I don't have to spend money to go see a movie about Lego.
  12. An opt-out after the first year of a three-year deal means you end up paying him more money if he's bad than you do if he's good. It doesn't make any sense to me. My concern isn't with him leaving after one, it's with him having the second and third years guaranteed only if he's bad.
  13. He plans to start throwing on February 22. He was told to wait until four months after the surgery, and that date is the four-month anniversary.
  14. This is strangely interesting:
  15. They probably poisoned him for not being with the program. My guess is that he's a vendor in uniform, and he's bending over his bin of hot dogs or peanuts.
  16. If the opt out is after the second of three years, that's much more acceptable than if it's after the first year.
  17. Yeah, but if you sign him for three years and he's good, you only keep him for one. The only way you end up with him for three years is if he sucks. What kind of team would go for that?
  18. That may or may not be true, but to anyone reading Stark's columns back then, the impression was that Kiner was a buffoon. Also... I watched Daily News Live on SNY last night. (It apparently preempted Mets Hot Stove) and Bill Madden horribly botched the famous Choo Choo Coleman anecdote. Ralph: What does your wife call you? Choo Choo: She calls me Mr. Coleman. Apparently Bill Madden conflates Choo Choo Coleman with Sidney Poitier.
  19. Reports say that Boras is looking for a multi-year deal with a "opt out" after the first year. Which means that if he's good in 2014, you lose him, and if he sucks, you're stuck with him for multiple years. It doesn't seem like any rational team would go for that.
  20. That's right. You were quoted as saying that an educated consumer is the best customer. Actually, for a while now the second-to-last page has been something called "The Big Picture" which includes a large photograph, and then a collection of tweets and other quotes sometimes, but not always, related to the large photo. Today it was all about Ralph Kiner. You were quoted as saying, "There has never been the Mets without Ralph Kiner. There will always be Ralph Kiner with the Mets. RIP." You came right between Gary Myers and Don Lagreca.
