  1. I read that article in the print edition about a half hour ago, and I was feeling bad for him. (No mention of the Mariano bobblehead.) Now, my sympathy has pretty much evaporated.
  2. If he can find a way to get a double play ball when the bases are empty, then you'd really have something!
  3. Ashie62 wrote: One more reason for a Prince tryout... That would be an interesting choice!
  4. What do we think of Nimmo instead of Flores?
  5. Johan Santana: Minor league deal with Baltimore.
  6. Movies I've seen are in bold. I've seen 62 of the 87. There are four more (in red text) that I have on my TiVo that I'll probably watch in the next few months. 2013 - "12 Years A Slave" 2012 - "Argo" 2011 - "The Artist" 2010 - "The King's Speech" 2009 - "The Hurt Locker" 2008 - "Slumdog Millionaire" 2007 - "No Country for Old Men" 2006 - "The Departed" 2005 - "Crash" 2004 - "Million Dollar Baby" 2003 - "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" 2002 - "Chicago" 2001 - "A Beautiful Mind" 2000 - "Gladiator" 1999 - "American Beauty" 1998 - "Shakespeare in Love" 1997 - "Titanic" 1996 - "The English Patient" 1995 - "Braveheart" 1994 - "Forrest Gump" 1993 - "Schindlers List" 1992 - "Unforgiven" 1991 - "The Silence of the Lambs" 1990 - "Dances With Wolves" 1989 - "Driving Miss Daisy" 1988 - "Rain Man" 1987 - "The Last Emperor" 1986 - "Platoon" 1985 - "Out of Africa" 1984 - "Amadeus" 1983 - "Terms of Endearment" 1982 - "Gandhi" 1981 - "Chariots of Fire" 1980 - "Ordinary People" 1979 - "Kramer vs. Kramer" 1978 - "The Deer Hunter" 1977 - "Annie Hall" 1976 - "Rocky" 1975 - "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" 1974 - "The Godfather Part II" 1973 - "The Sting" 1972 - "The Godfather" 1971 - "The French Connection" 1970 - "Patton" 1969 - "Midnight Cowboy" 1968 - "Oliver!" 1967 - "In the Heat of the Night" 1966 - "A Man for All Seasons" 1965 - "The Sound of Music" 1964 - "My Fair Lady" 1963 - "Tom Jones" 1962 - "Lawrence of Arabia" 1961 - "West Side Story" 1960 - "The Apartment" 1959 - "Ben-Hur" 1958 - "Gigi" 1957 - "The Bridge on the River Kwai" 1956 - "Around the World in 80 Days" 1955 - "Marty" 1954 - "On the Waterfront" 1953 - "From Here to Eternity" 1952 - "The Greatest Show on Earth" 1951 - "An American in Paris" 1950 - "All About Eve" 1949 - "All the Kings Men" 1948 - "Hamlet" 1947 - "Gentleman's Agreement" 1946 - "The Best Years of Our Lives" 1945 - "The Lost Weekend" 1944 - "Going My Way" 1943 - "Casablanca" 1942 - "Mrs. Miniver" 1941 - "How Green Was My Valley" 1940 - "Rebecca" 1939 - "Gone with the Wind" 1938 - "You Can't Take It with You" 1937 - "The Life of Emile Zola" 1936 - "The Great Ziegfeld" 1935 - "Mutiny on the Bounty" 1934 - "It Happened One Night" 1932/1933 - "Cavalcade" 1931/1932 - "Grand Hotel" 1930/1931 - "Cimarron" 1929/1930 - "All Quiet on the Western Front" 1928/1929 - "The Broadway Melody" 1927/1928 - "Wings" Would happily watch again: Casablanca - one of the few movies I can watch again and again. I probably watch it every few years. Wings - have only seen it once, but would like to see it again. It Happened One Night - fun movie. Mutiny on the Bounty - love it! Charles Laughton is fantastic in this. I'd guess I've seen it five times. The Bridge on the River Kwai - terrific movie. I've seen it three times, I think. The Godfather Rain Man The Artist - as a silent movie fan, I got a kick out of it. Once was enough: Gigi - I like Maurice Chevalier, but his "Thank Heaven For Little Girls" number is nothing but creepy by today's standards. And much of the rest is awful. An American in Paris - Gene Kelly's most self-indulgent movie. The 17-minute dance number drained my energy. West Side Story - not bad, but not worth a rewatch. The Departed - a lot of style, but not satisfying. Jack Nicholson is on the other side of the shark in this one. Gandhi - not a bad movie, but too long to sit through a second time.
  7. ESPN's Christina Karhl says Mets should trade Doodoo, Flores and RHP prospect Michael Fulmer to Cleveland for Asdrubal Cabrera. The article also had the premise that Flores is disposable to the Mets because he's blocked at third base by David Wright. Flores has recently been compared to Edgardo Alfonzo. If there's a reasonable chance that that's true, I want him to stick around. (My guess: he'll be the everyday second baseman by 2016, if not before.) I certainty don't want him traded for a one-year rental.
  8. I have no idea. I'm hoping it's not Harvey, because I think he's the one least likely to be a long-term Met.

  10. I watched Kim Novak just the other day in one of her much lesser known movies, Boys' Night Out, a kind of amusing little picture from 1962 with James Garner and Tony Randall. I didn't watch the Oscars, so I didn't see what she looks like at 81. I'm curious, but don't know if I want to try to track down an image.
  11. Yeah, Puello is intriguing. With Chris Young on a one-year contract, there will likely be an opening in the Mets outfield in 2015, and I'm curious to see how much consideration Puello gets for that spot. And depending on how the season goes, that opportunity for Puello could potentially come in 2014.
  12. Yeah, like this is exactly the same as that.

  15. most twitter clients support muting/blocking hashtags This kind of shit really makes me feel old. I mean, I kind of know what it means, but at the same time, it sounds like a lot of gibberish.
  16. I can understand not despising Kevin McReynolds, but he does seem like a strange choice for a favorite Met.
  17. It actually is (at least in most cases) but the law looks like it's being scoffed at more and more frequently. When I first signed up for the Do Not Call Registry the effect was like magic; the annoying calls just plain stopped. But now they're back. The law is still in effect. I believe violators can be fined $11,000 per call, which should be a disincentive, but it appears that the callers don't fear the law. Maybe they've discovered that there's no practical way to enforce it. These calls are less of a nuisance now that there's caller ID, but they're still annoying.
  18. Does he look anything like Fran Tarkenton?
  19. Like I said, give him a shot. If he can't play there, we'll find out soon enough. There's a chance that he's the best option the Mets currently have.
  20. I didn't know until about two days ago that this was Oscar weekend. I love movies, but don't much care about the Oscars.
  21. I get all the movies I need (and more) from cable. I love TCM, but there are also good channels like EPIX and HDNET that show more recent movies. (And of course, HBO and Showtime and all those channels.)
  22. Adam Rubin wrote: Left-hander Jonathon Niese's MRI exam of his shoulder came back clean Thursday and he will resume throwing in a couple of days. Niese, projected to be the Opening Day starter for the Mets, had been sent back to New York for the medical exam after complaining of shoulder pain. "I wanted to keep it quiet. It's just a precautionary thing to make sure it's not worse from last year," Niese told ESPNNewYork.com on Wednesday. "I just want peace of mind." "Clean." Whatever that means exactly, it's better than the alternative. I remember that pitchers were expected to go through a "dead arm" phase. Maybe this is something innocuous. We'll know soon enough, I guess; see if he makes a few exhibition starts and seems okay.
  23. I'm with Vic. Let's give Flores a shot at shortstop. Murphy will probably be gone within a year or two, and then Wilmer can slide over to second base if need be.
  24. Ceetar wrote: G-Fafif wrote: Niese MRI finds no damage. Cleared to throw. yeah, but so is Harvey. #doomed. And that's the Optimistic fan saying that!
  25. It was probably Scott Boras.
