Let's see: Mets, 1986. Cardinals, 2011. Cubs, 1908. Dodgers, 1988. Blue Jays, 1993. Astros, never. Rangers, never. Royals, 1980. Unless it's St. Louis, somebody's going to end a lengthy dry spell.
  2. Rubin's source is TBS's website. On Monday, they have Cubs-Cardinals at 5 p.m. and Mets-Dodgers at 8:30. For Tuesday, they have one game slotted at 8 p.m. The rest of the day is sitcom reruns of Seinfeld, Friends, and New Girl. It's possible that only one of the two National League series will go to four games, and if so, that one gets the 8 p.m. game. If both series have a Game 4, then it will be bad news for fans of Seinfeld, Friends, and New Girl. Mets-Dodgers would probably get the 8 p.m. slot over Cardinals-Cubs.
  3. I'm happy with this news. I would have preferred a 6:30 time, but I'd rather have 8:30 than 1 p.m.
  4. That one about Ike Davis is Kyle Farnsworth, isn't it?
  5. I just saved it to my phone. It's the first song I have on there! (I've only had the phone since January.)
  6. [list:e5su3cj6]Granderson RF Wright 3B Murphy 2B Cespedes CF Duda 1B Cuddyer LF d'Arnaud C Tejada SS deGrom P[/list:u:e5su3cj6] I'm not thrilled with sitting Flores, but I think I'd go with Ruben for the glove. And he's been hitting reasonably well too.
  7. He'd probably only get one start in the Division Series, right? He won't be able to pitch until Game 3.
  8. If the Mets win this series, my guess is that the player most likely to be awarded series MVP (is there such a thing for the Division Series?) is Jeurys Familia. I think Wright will be their most productive hitter.
  9. Meet the Mets (Warning: Clicking the link will play an audio file.)
  10. All this fuss about Kershaw and Greinke. You'd think that the Mets were facing Matt Wisler.
  11. About 35 hours and 35 minutes to go!
  12. Zvon wrote: Hits allowed: Rick Reed, 11. And Jones gets least hits allowed? I guess I missed that category. I'll have to add it before Friday's game begins. Least hits allowed, I assume, will be a multiple-player tie for zero.
  13. Zvon wrote: I noticed that if I don't vote right after the game I never get back to vote. That will be a problem going forward. Starting next year it will no longer be possible to vote right after the game. Watch for further details after the World Series.
  14. Gwreck wrote: Bartolo won pitcher of the month 4 times but was only #3 on the year. He won it three times in 2015. Once in 2014. (And once each this year for Harvey, deGrom, and Syndergaaard.)
  15. In looking at this stuff, I noticed that John Maine started Game 1 of the 2006 NLDS. That seems a strange choice; the Mets clinched early enough to set their rotation. I don't recall what led to this happening. Did it have something to do with Orlando Hernandez's injury? Glavine started Game 2, and Trachsel started Game 3.
  16. I agree that the champagne shower is a bit much for winning the one-game series. The same can be said for winning the Division Series, I guess. I think hugs, back slaps, and high fives should suffice. Save the champagne for winning actual titles: Division Championship, League Championship, and World Championship. But, you know, whatever. If they want to spray champagne, that's fine. It's not high on my list of gripes.
  17. As I said, I know I'm in the minority, but I really don't like the current system. I mean, I like that the division title has a lot more meaning, but I very much dislike the one-game wild card playoff.
  18. Gwreck wrote: I wonder how many players have been on postseason rosters without appearing in games. Ones that immediately come to mind: Ed Hearn and Randy Niemann (1986) Royce Ring and Ramon Castro (2006) I don't know who they are, but there have definitely been others. The Mets used only 22 players in the 1969 postseason, for example. They used the same number in 1973, 1986 (when there was only a 24-man roster), and 1988. They used 25 in 1999, 26 in 2000, and 24 in 2006. The 26 in 2000 would be because Derek Bell was injured in the NLDS and replaced (by whom?) for the NLCS. Was it Ring and Castro in 2006? Did the Mets have the same rosters in the NLDS and NLCS that year? I honestly don't remember. I do recall Hearn and Niemann in 1986. Mackey Sasser did play in the 1988 NLCS for the Mets.
  19. How about this? It's sorted by game date by lineup position. It looks like the 100th postseason Met chronologically is the first alphabetically, Kurt Abbott. This list isn't in true order of appearance. In that first game, for example, Al Weis pinch ran for Art Shamsky in the fourth lineup spot, which puts him ahead of Ken Boswell on the list. If you want to refine the exact order, you'll have to take a look at how each game unfolded, but this should be a good starting point for anyone interested in doing that. 21. How many players have played in postseason games for the Mets? At the moment, the count is 126. It will probably be quite a while before we get our 1,000 postseason Met. Here they are: [list:3d77lgu7]Abbott, Kurt (2000) Agbayani, Benny (1999, 2000) Agee, Tommie (1969) Aguilera, Rick (1986, 1988) Alfonzo, Edgardo (1999, 2000) Backman, Wally (1986, 1988) Beauchamp, Jim (1973) Bell, Derek (2000) Beltran, Carlos (2006) Benitez, Armando (1999, 2000) Bonilla, Bobby (1999) Bordick, Mike (2000) Boswell, Ken (1969, 1973) Bradford, Chad (2006) Cardwell, Don (1969) Carter, Gary (1986, 1988) Cedeo, Roger (1999) Charles, Ed (1969) Chavez, Endy (2006) Clendenon, Donn (1969) Cone, David (1988) Cook, Dennis (1999, 2000) Darling, Ron (1986, 1988) Delgado, Carlos (2006) Dotel, Octavio (1999) Dunston, Shawon (1999) Dyer, Duffy (1969) Dykstra, Lenny (1986, 1988) Elster, Kevin (1986, 1988) Feliciano, Pedro (2006) Fernandez, Sid (1986, 1988) Floyd, Cliff (2006) Franco, John (1999, 2000) Franco, Julio (2006) Franco, Matt (1999, 2000) Garrett, Wayne (1969, 1973) Gaspar, Rod (1969) Gentry, Gary (1969) Glavine, Tom (2006) Gooden, Dwight (1986, 1988) Green, Shawn (2006) Grote, Jerry (1969, 1973) Hahn, Don (1973) Hamilton, Darryl (1999, 2000) Hampton, Mike (2000) Harrelson, Bud (1969, 1973) Harris, Lenny (2000) Heep, Danny (1986) Heilman, Aaron (2006) Henderson, Rickey (1999) Hernandez, Anderson (2006) Hernandez, Keith (1986, 1988) Hernandez, Roberto (2006) Hershiser, Orel (1999) Hodges, Ron (1973) Jefferies, Gregg (1988) Johnson, Howard (1986, 1988) Jones, Bobby (2000) Jones, Cleon (1969, 1973) Knight, Ray (1986) Koosman, Jerry (1969, 1973) Kranepool, Ed (1969, 1973) Leach, Terry (1988) Leiter, Al (1999, 2000) Lo Duca, Paul (2006) Magadan, Dave (1988) Mahomes, Pat (1999) Maine, John (2006) Martin, J. 22. Before going to Cincinnati? I don't think so, because they hadn't won anything yet. The season still had a 163rd game to be played.
  23. Mets Willets Point wrote: I'm rooting for MLB to come to their senses so that they will never again stage a "coin flip" playoff game to determine if the one of the 2nd & 3rd best teams in baseball can advance further in the postseason. I agree. I'm probably in a minority, but I'd like to see this Wild Card thing go to a best-of-three. With four days between the end of the regular season and the beginning of the Division Series, they could have squeezed it in. The Pirates have home field over the Cubs? Play the first game in Wrigley on Tuesday, and a day/night doubleheader in Pittsburgh on Wednesday. In this case, the two cities are close together. Would it be grueling if the two wild cards played on opposite coasts? Yes, but too bad. This year the won-lost records of the Cubs and Pirates were very close. But some year there might be a five- or six-game gap between the two wild cards. I really hate the idea of a team being able to make up such a gap with a one-game playoff.
