  1. When are we going to see that 1971 Ford Pinto that Yoenis won in the Tabloid Cover Derby? The King of Sweden is starting to get pissed and Maja is feeling the heat.
  2. Recycling? That seems rather anachronistic.
  3. Edgy MD wrote: Me too. I'd just retrofit my Accord so it could travel underwater or nitro me out of a tight spot. It's all about the accessories. I might look into a flux capacitor too. I'm with you. I'd even spring for an AM/FM radio!
  4. I'd be so boring. 1. You are driving a: HONDA ACCORD 2. You are wearing: A T-SHIRT AND BLUE JEANS 3. And of course, the shoes are: SNEAKERS FROM MODELLS 4. As you get closer, reporters can hear NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO blasting from your speakers. 5. Pulling in, they look in your passenger seat and see: A BOOK AND A NEWSPAPER 6. You turn off your engine, get out, and say: HEY, HOW YOU DOING?
  5. I'm immune to whatever charms cars have for people. Even if I was a multi-millionaire, I'd probably still drive a Honda Accord. Or a Toyota Corolla. Or something like that.
  6. Yeah, but he's wealthy enough to do that in reverse: get a car to match the color of his clothes.
  7. Anyone find an obituary yet? I just did some Googling and came up empty.
  8. Thanks! And remember, the flavor remains unchanged!
  9. For just such an occasion, I guess.
  10. I just checked his numbers: 8.2 innings, 18 hits, 5 walks, 13 earned runs, 13.50 ERA. That's... pretty bad!
  11. Daryl Boston is probably having a panic attack. If asked, I would have said that Tony Phillips was an infielder. I would have been wrong. He only played left field and right field for the Mets.
  12. The obvious question: Why wasn't this included in the Piazza Weekend festivities?
  13. Niese really needs to move on. He's a Pirate now, he should be focused on being a Pirate and not about gripes from his previous team. I'm sure Pirates fans don't want to hear him yammering about his time with the Mets. I'm sure he gets asked questions about the Mets, but he should deflect them and say he's all about being a Pittsburgh Pirate now.
  14. I feel bad for Ticket Oak.
  15. The Detroit News wrote: Lakeland, Fla. — A one-time Mets reliever whose 100-mph fastball became a trademark, as well as a torment for many big-league batters, has joined the Tigers, sources close to the negotiations have confirmed. Bobby Parnell, 31, signed a minor-league free-agent deal Thursday, which includes an invitation to big-league camp, and was to be at Lakeland Thursday following eight seasons with the Mets.
  16. What kind of speculation has there been about Curtis Granderson? Is it about him and Katie North? Or about him and Sam Champion?
  17. JP Morosi, FOX Sports wrote: Although sources say the Rangers aren't close to adding a full-time left fielder, they're nonetheless keeping tabs on the trade market for New York Mets outfielder Alejandro De Aza, as well as maintaining contact with free agents David Murphy and Will Venable, both of whom have prior experience with the team.
  18. That may be in the next CBA: unless using MLB-approved birth control methods, players can only have sex from February through June.
  19. Wait, what? We were supposed to wear pants?
  20. It may have turned out that way (it also would have depended on Lagares' performance) but my understanding was that the plan for De Aza was to be the starting center fielder against right-handed pitchers, in which case he could easily have accumulated 300 plate appearances.
  21. I didn't really like it. I'd give it two stars out of five. To me, it was silly without being funny, at least for the most part. I at least give them credit for trying something a bit different in superhero movies, and it seems like most viewers liked it quite a bit more than I did.
  22. I don't think that saying he may be dealt is an attack on him by any means. The Mets have a lot of outfielders and are short on guys with first base experience. I've said this before in other threads, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if De Aza was traded for an guy who's more of a 1B-OF than just an OF.
  23. Here's an awkward sentence from John Harper: It's no secret Harvey likes the finer things in life, from the Maserati he was driving last season to the private jet package he said on a late-night TV show recently that he splurged on so he can fly to exotic locations around the world, presumably.
  24. Centerfield wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: Maybe he can join a bowling league! We at the Oakhill Township Adult Bowling League take objection to the characterization that any disgraced athlete can simply sign up and join the league. The OTABL has always adhered to the strictest, most cutting edge, measures when it comes to performance-enhancing drugs. We would like to remind the public that we started testing in 1996, six years before Major League Baseball. We are disappointed in Benjamin Grimm's comments in the wake of the Jenrry Mejia suspension. Although we know those comments were made in jest, they still cast a negative light on the elite athletes of the OTABL. We hope that Mr. Grimm, being in a position of influence, will be more careful with his words in the future. One thing I've learned recently from Donald Trump is that if you're challenged on anything you say, you have to double down. Bowling leagues are for losers who need to sit down after taking only four steps! Sad! Bowlers beg me to join their league but I'd never consider it! Pathetic!
