  1. In 2015, at least, MLB.TV came free to anyone who subscribed to Extra Innings.
  2. While they're at it, they should retire The Sporting News.
  3. Why 61 and not 47? If Redbubble is like Cafe Press and Zazzle (and I imagine it is) it's easy enough to upload images in the hope (however slim) that someone will buy something. I wouldn't be at all surprised if not one OROSCO 61 item has ever actually been produced in physical form.
  4. It sounds like it's still a head-to-head simulation of an actual game, but the stats on which the player's performance is based is updated based on how they're actually doing. So if you're playing the 2016 Mets against the 2016 Nationals, for example, and it's August and Kevin Plawecki has hit 40 homers, he'll perform as much more of a slugger than if you were using a stagnant card that was based on his 2015 stats.
  5. I don't really care at all about "clever". I vote based on the visual appeal of the cover. I guess that's what helps make this contest so unpredictable; different voters use different criteria.

I had a hunch about "TEAM OF DESTINY" but beyond ruling out some obvious duds, I really had no idea which ones would emerge as favorites.

  9. That seems to be true in AAA. In the lower levels, pitchers don't seem to bat at all. (I base this on looking at minor league hitting stats. We see pitchers listed at the upper level but not at the lower levels.)
  10. . GROUP THREE CHAMPION Winner of Round 1.3.7 Winner of Round 2.3.3 Winner of Round 3.3.1 Winner of Round 4.3.1 YES-PEDES New York Daily News, September 10, 2015 Helped by an 8th-inning two-run homer by Yoenis Cespedes, the Mets beat the Nationals 5-3 in Washington, completing a key September series sweep. GROUP FOUR CHAMPION Winner of Round 1.4.6 Winner of Round 2.4.4 Winner of Round 3.4.2 Winner of Round 4.4.1 TEAM OF DESTINY New York Daily News, October 27, 2015 With the World Series about to begin, the Daily News publishes a special wraparound cover.
  11. . GROUP ONE CHAMPION Winner of Round 1.1.1 Winner of Round 2.1.4 Winner of Round 3.1.2 Winner of Round 4.1.1 N.Y. CITI New York Post, February 25, 2015 In spring training, Curtis Granderson says that the Mets are ready to take over the town. GROUP TWO CHAMPION Winner of Round 1.2.7 Winner of Round 2.2.4 Winner of Round 3.2.2 Winner of Round 4.2.1 CON4TO! New York Daily News, July 26, 2015 Michael Conforto goes 4 for 4 and scores 4 runs in a 15-2 Mets win over the Dodgers at Citi Field.
  12. Jim Duquette has been using the term on Mets Hot Stove. I wonder if he's the source of this.
  13. ‏ Bob Nightengale wrote: @BNightengale The #Mets and #Whitesox each interested in Cespedes if he accepts short-term deal
  14. The only aspect of this story that matters: Are the Orioles still in on Cespedes, or are they no longer in the picture?
  15. Mets lurk in Yoenis Cespedes market with short-term bucks Kevin Kernan in the Post says: The Mets are monitoring the situation closely, but do not have a one-year offer on the table. According to multiple sources, the Mets continue to look at one- to three-year scenarios with Cespedes. The Mets would be willing to go three years for about $60 million. If for some reason Cespedes does not take the Orioles’ deal, and wants to bet on himself on a one-year deal with the hopes of hitting it even bigger as a free agent among next season’s weaker class, the Mets would be more than happy to sign him to a one-year deal in the $18 million-$22 million range.
  16. @JesseSanchezMLB wrote: Sources: Cespedes believed to be weighing 5/$90m w/possible option offer from O's vs. one-year deal with Mets and become a free agent again. @JesseSanchezMLB wrote: Clarification: Mets do not have an offer on table for Cespedes. They've shown interest at a deal less than 4-6 years & Cespedes knows this.
  17. More on this from CBS Sports. Reported offer from Baltimore is $90 million over five years. Report: Cespedes considering very different offers from Orioles, Mets?
  18. I don't know. I think I'd have faith that I'd be able to get more than $12.5 million per year in my next contract, which is what it would take (over four years) to break even on the deal. It seems like a risk worth taking.
  19. Yeah, I think I'd roll the dice and take $25 million for 2016 and see what the future holds after that.
  20. Centerfield wrote: No one else thinks it's amazing that Gil Hodges is going to be in the main room at 1 p.m.? Why is that so amazing? Do you really think he should be relegated to the Secondary Room?
  21. What date is this? And in "Sandy and Pee Wee" I assume it's Koufax and not Alderson?
  22. Yes! That could be the kind of thing that gets the deal done. We can also throw in 72 virgins if we have to.
