  1. I'm not optimistic. I'll say 36-38. The ShaMVP will be Cespedes.
  2. I actually mentioned that the other day in the Harvey injury thread (I think). Walker for a starting pitcher seems to be the move to make because of all the depth the Mets have at second. Poor Dilson has waited long enough, and there's still Flores and Johnson as well. Sending him back to the Pirates for Niese would be a very funny twist.
  3. Why would they need to know the league months in advance? Either way, the cities aren't determined until a few days before. But I do understand that they'd like to narrow down the possibilities. For example, going into the LCS last year, they knew that the Series would open in Kansas City or Toronto. If team records were a factor, then those two possibilities would have been four, with New York and Chicago included. So they'd have to block out hotel rooms in four cities instead of two.

  5. Disclosure: It's probably been about 25 years since I've watched an All-Star Game. I lost interest in the game even before the 1994 strike. The home-field advantage thing is one of the more stupid ideas that baseball has come up with in recent years. Return it to being an exhibition game, then there's no problem with having at least one representative from each team. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I don't mind the four-day All-Star break. (Although 30 years ago I know I would have hated it.)
  6. Do we know the cat's name yet?
  7. I just looked at the box score to see if either of the Mets pitchers got into the game, and neither did. (Who was the NL manager again?) And I saw that the American League batted in the bottom of the inning and I figured that had to be a mistake, but then I saw Fman's post that confirmed that that actually is what happened. Sheesh!
  8. Can we get a UMDB daiquiri with regard to who are the all-time leaders in RBI against the Mets in a single season? Oops, by the time I saw this the question had already been answered, but here are all players who have 20 or more RBI in a season against the Mets: PlayerYearRBIHenry Aaron196228Rico Carty196427Dick Allen196825Frank Howard196223Willie Mays196223Ken Boyer196223Deron Johnson196523Willie Stargell196623Ryne Sandberg199022Ryan Howard200621Daniel Murphy201621Don Demeter196220Jim Ray Hart196620Willie McCovey196720Dave Kingman197920 Lots of examples from the 1960s, before divisional play, when the Mets played more teams more frequently. The only post-1969 instances are Sandberg in 1990, Howard in 2006, Murphy this year, and Kingman in 1979.
  9. You never have anything bad to say about Granderson!
  10. MVP means the best player, not the player who most exceeded expectations. Among position players Cespedes stands out among all others.
  11. That's a surprising choice. I would have guessed it would have been unanimous for Cespedes.
  12. I was thinking that Rosario might be called up around May 1 of next year, to do that free-agency eligibility delay thing. But if Cabrera is still production, Amed may end up waiting until 2018. (Dilson Herrera may know something about how this works.) It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
  13. The title of this thread reminds me of the joke about why Mickey divorced Minnie.
