  1. Interesting. I thought his policy was to rest the guy with the hot bat. (Or maybe that only applies to guys named "Wilmer Flores.")

  3. I've been appreciating Asdrubal Cabrera lately, so I'm bumping this thread.
  4. I was one of the 13 who voted Dislike on this deal. I was wrong.
  5. I changed planes there once. True story!
  6. With an expanded roster it seems needlessly risky to use Gsellman as a pinch runner.
  7. Always like seeing the opponent fail to score after a leadoff triple.

  9. That's how much Eric Campbell sucks! (We're still supposed to hate him, right?) He can't even hit a foul ball correctly!
  10. I'd be calculating the NHOP but it's a lot more complicated this year than last.
  11. Vic Sage wrote: Jerome Silberman (June 11, 1933 – August 28, 2016), aka, Gene Wilder, was one of the great comic talents of his generation, spanning a 50-year career on stage, film, TV and books. I heard an interview on NPR's All Things Considered with Wilder's nephew on the day that Wilder died. It would seem that both Wilder and his nephew would be offended by your use of the adjective "comic". Apparently he considered himself an actor who did comedy, and not a "comic actor." I don't know that I agree with that. If I'm listing the great comic actors of that generation, I'd certainly include Wilder. (And Walter Matthau too, among others.) But if I was listing the great actors, without the adjective, then you're dealing with a considerably larger field, and Wilder is a lot less likely to stand out.
  12. This morning I received the official word from our corporate headquarters in Stockholm: The Tabloid Cover Derby will return for a second year, with voting to begin shortly after the conclusion of the World Series, whether or not the Mets participate. Last year we had 368 covers to choose from, with 133 from the Daily News, 124 from the New York Post, and 111 from Newsday. So far we have a field of 265 covers: 98 from the News, 87 from the Post, and 80 from Newsday. Whether the totals end up comparable to last year will depend largely on how newsworthy the Mets are in October, but even if the team fizzles in September, we should easily have at least 300 covers in the competition. Let's hope that this year's gallery includes cover photos of parades and "ticker tape" (or whatever substitutes for ticker tape these days).
  13. You could argue that Bob Miller was the first.
  14. We can change the brown. Maybe we can have a poll to pick the new table background colors.
  15. I think you've both caught whatever batmagadanleadoff has. Did he sneeze on you or something?
  16. I'm over Dilson. I don't think second base will be a problem next year. They have a lot of options.
  17. Hopefully he'll be able to play more often than not for the next month or (dare we hope?) two. I can't help wondering what impact it will have on 2017. This occurs just as talk of resigning Walker was starting to heat up. I can only imagine that this will make the Mets a lot more hesitant to do that.
  18. That happens with a lot of movies. The "official" year of a film, for Oscar purposes, is based on when the movie opens in Los Angeles. But some movies open outside of L.A. in the previous year. I don't know if that's the case with The Producers, but it could be. EDIT: Oops, Vic's post snuck in ahead of mine.
  19. I think it says, "I much fear there is trouble in the fuselage, Frederick."
  20. Others can be post-season eligible too, if they're replacing someone who's injured. Matt Reynolds didn't play before September 1 last year, but he was able to be put on the roster when Juan Uribe got hurt.
  21. Well, that's not what I heard.
