  1. We need an investigation! Whose turn is it to recuse themselves?
  2. Your ability to remember all of these ephemeral Mets is absolutely remarkable.
  3. 11. Who is Jerry DiPoto?

  6. The latest is that they'll let him pitch 130 innings this year. That's about 20 to 25 starts if they limit him to five or six innings. Which means that they don't have to delay him too much; maybe keep him in Florida for the first few weeks of the season, then a few games in relief before he enters the rotation. Skip a start here and there and maybe this can work out. I'm not sure if they'd let him exceed the 130 innings for post-season starts, but that's a concern (hopefully) for October.
  7. (Stockholm, Sweden) Voting for the 2017 Schaefer Mets Player of the Year Award will begin on Tuesday, April 4, the Crane Pool Forum has announced. This will be the thirteenth season that Crane Pool Forum members will be participating in Schaefer voting. The Schaefer Mets Player of the Year Award was established in the 1970's, and Schaefer points were awarded by Mets broadcasters Lindsey Nelson, Ralph Kiner, and Bob Murphy. The award was re-established by the Crane Pool Forum in 2005. Third baseman David Wright has been the winner in in six of the twelve years of the revived prize. The other winners were Johan Santana in 2008, Jose Reyes in 2011, Daniel Murphy in 2013, Lucas Duda in 2014, Jacob deGrom in 2015, and Yoenis Cespedes in 2016. The new voting format that was introduced for the 2016 season will continue. Instead of voting in dedicated Schaefer threads in the forum, voters will go to http://potg.ultimatemets.com and fill in an online Schaefer ballot. Voting for each game will open automatically as soon as the box score has been pasted into the Ultimate Mets Database. This will usually be the morning after each game has been played, but may in some circumstances be considerably later than that, according to CPF spokesmodel Benjamin Grimm. Voting will stay open for up to two weeks, after which the votes are tallied and the results are posted in the IGT thread. In addition, says Grimm, each month a Schaefer Mets Player, Pitcher, Relief Pitcher, and Bench Player of the Month will be named.

  9. 1. Vinegar Bend Mizell.
  10. And so it begins...
  11. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: And if Walker has the kind of year I fear you replace him with Cecchini I haven't heard anything about contract extension talks with Walker in quite a while. For a day or two, it seemed that something was imminent. I wonder if these negotiations have been temporarily paused, or if they've abandoned the idea until after the season?
  12. Now THAT looks like Opening Day!
  13. Alay Soler, Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month, June 2006.
  14. In other words, he'll be a Countdown Quiz answer a few years from now.
  15. Maybe someday I'll stop thinking of this guy whenever I see Champ Stuart's name:
  16. He'll lead the Mets (and perhaps the league) in Cy Young votes. Will repeat as Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Year.
  17. He had an amazing career, but sadly the first thing I think of is how his granddaughter was murdered by that maniac who shot Gabby Giffords.
  18. Too bad Sweden doesn't have a team!
  19. Lefty Specialist wrote: Well, that's your Opening Day lineup right there. I hope not! If Matz gets that start instead of Syndergaard it means something went wrong.
  20. Edgy MD wrote: No way. He opens 2017 on the roster. I agree.
  21. I think he'll get a lot of playing time, and be similarly productive as he was last year. I'm most curious about whether he'll be back in 2018, but that's a question for another day. He talks like he's come home to stay, but it's not at all certain that it will turn out that way.
  22. 28-2, 0.73 ERA. Finishes second in the Cy Young behind Syndergaard. Okay, maybe that's unrealistic. He's shown that he can be really really good when he's healthy, but I expect that even if he were to have a season in which he stayed healthy he'd still have periods of struggle. I'd be quite happy to get 22 regular season starts out of him. (And four or five more in the postseason.)
  23. 1. Larry Bowa?
