  1. The Mets sure do put a lot of zeroes on the scoreboard.
  2. I agree. Sloppy curation undermines the integrity of the museum. The Mets already have a poor reputation for respecting their history. They need to be more careful with this stuff.
  3. I assume, by that lineup, that Garcia is a lefty. This is our first look at a vs.-lefties lineup. Interesting to see Flores in the cleanup spot.
  4. Some movement already this season on the all-time strikeout list. Jacob deGrom has moved up two positions, passing Nolan Ryan and Oliver Perez to move from 25th place to 23rd. And Noah Syndergaard also passes two players, Frank Viola and Bret Saberhagen, and advances from 40th place to a tie (with Pat Zachry) for 37th. 21. Jesse Orosco 506 21. Mike Pelfrey 506 23. Bret Saberhagen 388 40. Frank Viola 387 [crossout]40. Noah Syndergaard 384[/crossout]
  5. I feel like there's a whole echo generation of young players who love Mickey Mantle because their fathers did. My son isn't going to be a big league player, but if he was, instead of asking for Mickey Mantle's uniform number he'd probably ask for Stan Lee's.
  6. Reyes did look awful. Hopefully it was just one bad day. He's been talking a lot about how he'll get off to a better start this year because he's had the benefit of spring training.
  7. I agree that the cap logo is too big. I think the Marlins uniforms are pretty ugly, but I give them credit for trying something different, I guess. I definitely appreciate that they didn't build the 15th clone of Camden Yards.
  8. Or... don't go to a Yankees game!
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: ...he admitted that he's more of a Mets fan than he is an all-purpose baseball fan. IOW, knows that O'Flaherty is still in the league because he saw him pitch on Monday but likely not as up to date on the rest of the NL. It's like he's my brother from another mother!
  10. Joel Sherman, New York Post wrote: Toronto designated Mike Bolsinger for assignment, but the Mets have shown no inclination to clear a 40-man roster space for a marginal upgrade. The Mets personally like Mike Pelfrey, a free agent who was with the team from 2006 to 2012, but his representatives indicated the Mets starting group is too good, giving him a low chance to break through back to the majors. The Mets inquired in the offseason about Colby Lewis, seeing if he would agree to a minor league deal. He said no then, and continues to seek a major league deal. Other veteran free agents still unemployed include Doug Fister, Alfredo Simon, Ryan Vogelsong and Tim Lincecum.
  11. This will be the sixth time Bartolo has pitched against the Mets. He last did so on July 2, 2011 as a Yankee. Before that, there were three games as an Expo in 2002 and one as an Angel in 2005. He's 4-1 against the Mets in five starts. 2.81 ERA. During his time as a Met, his Schaefer accolades resulted in the creation of five UMDB retrocards:
  12. I don't think Dickey was ever scheduled to pitch in the Opening Series.
  13. This was in the plan for a while. He mentioned it in the article that G-Fafif linked earlier in this thread, on March 10.
  14. Anyone who bleaches their asshole hair is braver than I am.
  15. I usually give one full point to a reliever who pitches a scoreless inning in a tie or a one-run game. (Unless it's a busy game and there are a lot of players for whom I have to squeeze in points). So for yesterday, Robles gets a 1.0 from me, but nothing for Salas and Gsellman, who pitched a scoreless inning in a six-run game.
  16. Cast your vote!
  17. Baseball Reference still doesn't have a box score up for yesterday's game, just a broken link. I'll have to check back later, but until that box score is posted, and I've had a chance to react to it, Schaefer voting will be delayed.
  18. And we have a win!
  19. Six runs this inning and without a home run.
  20. DUDA BREAKS IT OPEN!
  21. SNY showed Salas in the bullpen just as he was picking his nose and then flicking the booger off his fingers.
  22. I took the day off, so I don't even have to pretend to be working. I haven't watched any baseball, at all, since the last out of the Mets-Giants Wild Card Game last October 5. Looking forward to this one!
  23. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's quiz, when we see everyone who had -1 at bats!
