  1. I don't think there's going to be a draft pick. The Mets aren't going to want to take the risk of Duda accepting an $18 million contract.
  2. Because he likes to keep his cool?
  3. You're probably right! But we're going to have to go through with it anyway. The home office has already booked a venue in Stockholm for the unveiling ceremony.
  4. 4-0 Nationals in the 7th. You know, mlb.com is probably a better place to get the score than from the IGT.
  5. Centerfield wrote: The upside is too big not to do a 1 year deal. I don't know. I would guess that he'd get around $5 million, if not more. (His 2017 salary is $5,130,000.) If the Mets really feel that he's going to continue to muddle along with a 5.00 ERA, they may very well want to spend that money elsewhere. Maybe there's some other team that might be tempted by his upside (if not by his backside) and the Mets could make a deal. But if they do, they won't get much more than salary relief.
  6. He's really starting to smell like a non-tender to me.
  7. I predict that, before the 2018 season, Matt Harvey will...
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: No Gary, NOT the entire ballpark was rooting for Seaver in his return. I was in the park that day and I wasn't rooting for Seaver! I was there too, and I was totally rooting for Koosman.
  9. I wonder if they're required to participate. If I was a big league player, I'd skip the nickname and I'd wear my regular shoes. I might do something silly with the uniform patch, however. Maybe I'd include a picture of Fay Wray.
  10. How pathetic will it be if Matt Harvey's jersey says "ADRIANA"?
  11. And there have been players who have worn their first names on their jerseys, like our beloved Ichiro Suzuki, as well as Vida Blue. (I don't know if Blue wore VIDA on his jersey when he was in Oakland, but I remember that from when he was with the Giants.)
  12. Well, yes, of course, that's what this is really all about. In addition to selling CONFORTO 30 jerseys, they'll also be able to sell COMFY 30 jerseys. (Just guessing at the nickname there.) This only bothers/interests me as much as the Mercury Mets thing did, which is not at all. The thought of seeing Jerry Blevins with "HARPO" on his back, a Vivian Vance patch on his sleeve, and raspberry-and-yellow shoes might be exciting to me if I was eight years old, but I just see it as harmless silliness.
  13. That's about as against the tide as it's possible to be!
  14. Yeah, the main problem wasn't that Seaver left, it was that M. Donald Grant and Lorinda deRoulet didn't leave. I was just a few weeks past my 14th birthday when that trade was made, and I was just stunned that it actually happened. I hated seeing him in a Reds uniform, and it really bugged me when I saw a happy Nancy Seaver being interviewed on TV, saying everything was the same except for the color of his uniform.
  15. UniWatch recalls the 1976 Braves and nicknames on their uniforms: NickNOBs and Snow Jobs: A Closer Look at the ’76 Braves
  16. I remember the Atlanta Braves once wore nicknames on the back of their uniforms. I don't recall all of the details, but Ted Turner had Andy Messersmith (I think) take the nickname "CHANNEL" so that his uniform said "CHANNEL 17". This was back when TBS was a local Atlanta station, and MLB cracked down on this because it was, essentially, an advertisement (for the station) on the uniform.
  17. I guess I'm wrong! Since the 1999 regular season had a happy ending, I must have forgotten the losing streak. Those graphs look so much better than this year's:
  18. I don't remember a September swoon in 1999. Do you mean 1998?
  19. The obligatory fight scene is the soft underbelly of these superhero movies. Some are better than others, but in just about every case they leave my mind wandering. Two examples of bad fight scenes that immediately come to mind are the 2008 Hulk movie and Iron Man 3. But there are many others.
  20. I always associate June 15 with the day the Mets traded Tom Seaver. Happily, I also associate it with what happened on the same day, six years later.
