  1. I found the 1992 Spanish cover at this site: http://www.kcmets.com/MetsYearbooks.html So we're all set. Just need to wait for the 2018 cover to be released. My prediction: Mickey Callaway, flanked by Syndergaard and deGrom.
  2. Sad news! He was also the poet laureate of the Mets, wasn't he? (I remember our former resident salamander giving an eviscerating critique of Ed's poetry skills.) At the time of his death, Ed Charles was the 14th oldest living Met. 22 days younger than Joe Hicks, six months older than Pumpsie Green.
  3. This new age of the four-man bench (really three-man, given that one of them has to be a catcher) isn't going to help Luis' chances.
  4. Yeah, I'm currently at 63, which isn't going to work. We'll either have to add a 64th cover, or I'll have to skip the one Spanish cover and go with one cover getting a first-round bye. I'd rather extend to 64 if possible. Another option would be to include the World Series programs from 1969, 1973, and 2015. (1986 and 2000 had generic MLB covers.) But they're not actually yearbooks, so I'm not sure if that would be appropriate. And the people in Stockholm aren't returning my calls. AND it would get us to 66, which is also problematic, but in a different way.
  5. How about with two outs, the bases loaded, and a 3-2 count?
  6. That would considerably shorten Mickey Callaway's managerial career, I would think.
  7. Excellent! Thank you! The 1988 is the same design as the English-language version, but the 1989 is different.
  8. I'm rooting for the Marlins to lose 121 games this year. And for all 41 of their wins to come against Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Washington.
  9. That sounds about right to me.
  10. And who is the runner who starts the inning standing on second base? I think it should be the person who would be due to bat ninth in the inning. And I guess you can decide to pinch-run for that person, and he would end up taking the original player's spot in the batting order. It's an awful idea. Hopefully it will be one-and-done in 2018. I agree that it's not likely to go into effect in the big leagues, but as long as it's present in the minors, it's a threat to do so. I don't like this idea either, but it's better than the one currently on the table: Any regular-season game that's still tied after 12 innings goes down as a tie, and does not have to be replayed. Standings would then be on the point system, like in the NHL. Two points for a win, one for a tie.
  11. My greatest familiarity is with the covers of the 1970s and 1980s. By the 90s I was buying with less enthusiasm, and I stopped altogether a few years ago, when I realized I was bringing them home and putting them on a shelf with barely a glance inside. There are some nice covers in the collection, and more than a few that are hideous. I already know which one is my own favorite. (I'll mention it when it appears in a poll.) I was pleased to see that not all of the more recent covers are as bad as I was thinking they were. Unlike the Tabloid Cover Derby, these covers won't be presented in chronological order. (I don't want to start with 1962 vs. 1963, and then go to 1964 vs. 1965.) I can either scramble them and we'd have random first-round assignments, or we can work from opposite ends: 1962 vs. 2018, 1963 vs. 2017, etc. Thoughts?

There were two years, I think. Do they have different-looking covers? If we can put two Spanish versions in the mix, that would get us to a nice NCAA-friendly count of 64.
  13. Thank you again! We're just about all set. All we need is the 2018 cover and we can get started. It looks like there will be 62 covers in this competition. If that holds true, we'll have 31 first-round polls. The first-round winner with the best vote percentage will get a second-round bye and advance directly to the Sweet Sixteen. This is being put together in a hurry, so we have yet to hear from the people in Stockholm regarding how the winning cover will be honored.
  14. Should we have a Yearbook Cover Derby?
  15. I don't see how this would shorten games anyway. Sure, it makes it more likely that a run will score in the top of the inning, but it makes it equally likely that a run will score in the bottom of the inning. So we won't have shorter extra-inning games, we'll have higher-scoring extra-inning games, which are, therefore, likely to actually be longer.
  16. I found a nice 2017 yearbook image, so 41 Forever is off the hook. (Thanks, though!)
  17. That happened when I uploaded your image! Thanks for that 1989 cover! This is the current wish-list. 41 Forever has a lead on that 2017 cover. * Revised edition cover for 1991 (Vince Coleman and Hubie Brooks) * 2017 cover * 2018 cover
  18. This is great! I have the 2017 one and can send it tonight. Thank you! Cool! I found my list.. 1989 had two too. 1st is with small photos and a logo and the revised with an orange and blue number one symbol. This is the one that I have for 1989:
  19. You're right! I was able to find both versions:
  20. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Let me know if these are workable. Yes, they are! Thank you! Still missing three: * Revised edition cover for 1991 (Vince Coleman and Hubie Brooks) * 2017 cover * 2018 cover And, perhaps, any other years (that I may not recall) where the revised cover is substantially different from the original. I just know about 1977, 1990, and 1991. Are there any others?
  21. Thank you! I guess, assuming that I get the other few missing covers fairly soon, we'll start this thing in early April. I'll wait until the 2018 cover is available.
  22. I haven't figured that out yet either, but we'll soon see. I found a webpage that had quality images of most of the covers, but there are a few gaps, and if anyone can provide images I'd appreciate it. What's missing are: * The original 1977 cover (with Jerry Koosman) * Revised edition cover for 1990 (Bud Harrelson) * Revised edition cover for 1991 (Vince Coleman and Hubie Brooks) * 2017 cover * 2018 cover * Any other years (that I may not recall) where the revised cover is substantially different from the original I see a number of poor images online, but I'd like a crisp clean image that's at least 500 pixels in height. If anyone can help let me know. I do have the 1977 Koosman cover that I can scan myself if nobody has a better version. MFS62 wrote: [crossout]Just when you thought it was time for baseball games. Oh, fuck[/crossout] OK, I guess. Later Participation is not mandatory.
  23. Stay turned for further announcements!
  24. I took a quick look at eBay and it seems to be selling for between $15 and $50 more or less.
