  1. If they did they'd be listed day-to-day for the next few weeks.
  2. Nothing really surprising, I don't think. Of all of them, I would think that Jamie Callahan had the best chance of going North, especially since it seems that the Mets are planning on an eight-man bullpen.
  3. I must have misread this page, but I'm not sure how. How about this then: The 1986 Houston Astros (who also went on to have a pretty good season) were 9-18 in spring training.
  4. So these were premature exaltations?
  5. Centerfield wrote: I know it’s spring training but is anyone else concerned that we like never win? Well, the 1986 Mets were 9-18 in spring training.
  6. Associated Press wrote: The 32-year-old Cespedes hurt his right wrist while swinging in a game on March 6. He was to play Tuesday but was scratched. "I felt something in my wrist, but I didn't care much about that,'' Cespedes said through a translator. "It started bothering me on Tuesday, but with the day off yesterday ... I thought it would be good for today.'' New York had X-rays taken and awaiting results.
  7. I don't. I truly admire his tenacity, but I'd have to think the chances of him being able to play in a major league game are awfully slim.
  8. I've heard that. There's a story (true or not) that Singleton asked the Mets to provide him with a uniform that wasn't wool (polyester maybe?) and the Mets didn't want to go to the extra expense. The Expos, however, were willing to accommodate him and that explains his improved performance once he got to Montreal. If I were ever to meet Ken Singleton, that's the first thing I'd ask him about. The second thing would be how to pronounce "Jeurys".
  9. I have a feeling that Donald Trump smells like sweat that's poorly masked by cheap cologne.
  10. I think he gets displaced by Bruce when Conforto returns and Nimmo takes Bruce's spot in the outfield.
  11. If we had a normal president, of either party, then yes, it would be above politics. But Trump is NOT a normal president and the White House and the Oval Office and the entire United States of America are therefore diminished. As I said above, the whole "respect the office" thing is temporarily suspended. I didn't vote for either President Bush, but I would have happily visited either of them in the White House. I would have visited a President McCain or a President Romney too. Or a President Rubio or a President Cruz. But NOT a President Trump.
  12. I don't remember what date I graduated high school, but it was probably within a few days of your graduation date.
  13. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the Game Two starter was Harvey or Vargas.
  14. I wouldn't go. I would probably say something like, "I understand that people don't want to hear my political views, so I won't share them. I'll simply say that I'm not going to the White House because I don't want to." And yes, I'd go for any other President, Republican or Democrat, or whatever else. But Trump is so far outside the norm that the whole "respect the office" thing just doesn't apply. He himself doesn't respect the office, so why should anyone else respect it while it's occupied by this utter fraud?
  15. Sandy frequently says that one of the challenges is to know when to wait and when to act. Perhaps, in retrospect, he might have been better off waiting a bit longer, but during the period that he was waiting fans were impatient that he hadn't done anything. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Frazier turned out to be better than Walker this year.
  16. I'm taking a personal day from work so I can watch the game without distraction. One of the reasons I don't watch spring training games is because I enjoy having the first game I watch each year being one that counts.
  17. There are some players on this team about whom I'm optimistic. Familia is not one of them. Unless the Mets stay in contention, I predict he'll be gone by August 31. And if they do contend deep into the season, Familia will settle into a lesser role than he's had in the past. Either way, it will be his last year as a Met, and he'll depart without us ever getting a confirmation of the pronunciation of his first name.
  18. Don't be so hard on yourself! It's probably at least five!
  19. What I don't understand is, if everyone is playing hooky, why does it have to be convenient to your workplaces?
  20. A Boy Named Seo wrote: First four hitters for Robles go single, double, homer, homer. Technically, it could have been worse.
  21. Are you, perhaps, thinking of Tug McGraw?
  22. Matz does have one remaining option.
