  1. FINAL REMINDER: Voting for the first eight games of the season (through April 8) will close on Thursday morning.
  2. I'm the sole vote so far for 1992. I'm finding that I really don't like montages. The 1987 cover should have simply said "WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION" and had one of these photos instead of that ugly mess.
  3. I wouldn't look into Wilson Ramos because of Plawecki's short-term injury. I'd look into Ramos because of d'Arnaud's long-term injury. I think the Mets should make a move. And I think they will.
  4. This year's cover was no match for the overwhelming force that is known as Baby Met. The Mets inaugural year book from 1962 gets the first unanimous victory of this contest, garnering all 21 votes in the battle against the 2018 yearbook. ADVANCING TO ROUND TWO: ELIMINATED:

  6. Today's weather forecast for Flushing: This Afternoon: 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 55. Windy, with a southeast wind around 29 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Tonight: 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. Southwest wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
  7. We're kind of maxed out right now. Last year we expanded to 54 images, which is one third of a season. There are currently no plans to add any more images, but if that should change, your request will be cheerfully considered! We do appreciate your interest in the Schaefer Mets Player of the Year voting! And to show our appreciation, we'll be sending you, via mail, some Rice-A-Roni coupons!
  8. That sweep of the Nationals in DC meant a six-game swing in the standings from what would have been if the Nationals had swept the Mets. If they can sweep this coming series, that would mean a 12-game swing in the standings, which is tremendous. If the Nationals sweep the Mets this week, however, that six-game swing is completely undone. So it's very important to win at least one. Winning one or two is basically holding serve. Obviously, it's the extremes, a sweep by either team, that will have the most impact.
  9. Bumping this to the current page. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Cast your vote!
  10. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Blowout victory for the Post This will be a hot topic in November when the Tabloid Cover Derby is underway, but I think I prefer the News cover, MR. FREEZE. I like that Cespedes and the barrel of Gatorade wasn't cropped out.
  11. That's more of a road team thing. As the home team, the Mets would never have found themselves in a save situation once we entered the ninth inning with a tie score.
  12. This is more of a cautionary note. The Mets started similarly strong in 2015 and squandered their great start during the course of May and June. They actually briefly dipped below .500 and needed a late-season surge to get back into contention. (See below.) I've also included the graphs for other strong-start seasons. 1985 also had a mid-season dip that would cost the Mets a playoff berth.
  13. Google News search isn't finding anything about Ramos to the Mets other than a rumor posted yesterday on "Rising Apple".
  14. I like this. (I may change my mind, however, once further details emerge.)
  15. G-Fafif wrote: ...in the only Metsian realm where I can see this happening, I have to take 1993 over 1986. And on a day that 2011 eliminated 1969!
  16. I voted 1993. That 1986 cover is dull and unimaginative. The 1993 cover isn't all that either, but it's a lot better than a solid-colored cover with a logo in the upper half.
  17. Further evidence (as if we needed it!) that 1969 was a dud of a season. Its year book cover lost easily to the one from 2011, by a vote of 14 to 5. ADVANCING TO ROUND TWO: ELIMINATED:
  18. I know! That quick turnaround from fatalism to enthusiasm has me singing Meet the Mets as I'm preparing dinner. I don't usually do that!
  19. You know, right before that last pitch, I was standing in front of my TV thinking, "This feels like a game that they're going to lose." Wilmer instantly proved me wrong.
  20. Mets have not yet had a walkoff win this year. Cespedes is overdue for his next home run. Let's see how good my psychic skills are.
  21. It's all about what-have-you-done-lately!
