  1. This really surprises me. Actually, no, wait. It doesn't surprise me at all.
  2. I remember being happy (and amazed) that the Mets got Piazza, but was worried that they gave up too much for a rental player in a year in which they weren't likely to make the playoffs. They ended up coming pretty close to the postseason in 1998, and, as we know by know, Piazza turned out to be more than a rental.
  3. Lenny Randle was the first one I thought of too. What about Lee Mazzilli in 1986? Had he been released before the Mets signed him?
  4. Is Vargas hitting eighth so that they can pinch hit for him and get him out of the game a little earlier?
  5. 38 players have appeared in one or more games for the Mets in 2018, and all but four have earned at least a fraction of a Schaefer point. (This includes games for which the voting is still open.) The four are: [list:2ew9z0vg]Buddy Baumann Phillip Evans Dominic Smith Jason Vargas[/list:u:2ew9z0vg] This Fun Fact has been brought to you by the Bureau of Miscellaneous Information.
  6. All eight third-round polls are now open for voting. This will establish our eight finalists. Fourth-round voting will begin early next week. The currently open voting threads are: Yearbook Cover Derby Round 3.01 1962 vs 2002 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 3.02 1970 vs 2011 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 3.03 1963 vs 1976 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 3.04 1968 vs 1971 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 3.05 1964 vs 2000 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 3.06 1967 vs 1972 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 3.07 1965 vs 1974 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 3.08 1966 vs 1981
  7. I went with 1966 because the drawing is more skillfully done and because it's less weird. (Although the two guys holding the bamboo poles are kinda hinky.)

  10. Hopefully they won't be capable of getting a five-run lead!
  11. It really is time for Jason to stop sucking. Hopefully he can find himself against the Marlins.
