  1. That article says the book only covers the St. Louis portion of his playing career? Is this true? If so, it makes the book considerably less interesting to me.
  2. I'm reading a biography of Yanni and Hardy, and it mentions Eric Campbell!
  3. I had forgotten about this guy: Oregon State pitcher Luke Heimlich goes undrafted for second straight year
  4. Newsday says Mets are considering releasing Jose. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/mets-considering-releasing-jose-reyes-source-says-1.19011938
  5. 1967 becomes the third cover to join the Final Four as it scores a comfy 13-1 victory over 1964. ADVANCING TO ROUND FIVE: ELIMINATED:

  7. I won't ever advocate "blowing it up" but maybe the wise thing to do is trade Familia and Cabrera. I'd also trade Bruce and/or Cespedes, but that's a trickier proposition because of suckiness on Bruce's part and injury and a no-trade clause for Cespedes.
  8. His pitch count looks very reasonable.
  9. The 1968 cover squeaks into the Final Four with an 8-7 win over the Bicentennial 1976 cover. ADVANCING TO ROUND FIVE: ELIMINATED:
  10. Whenever I hear his name (and I didn't know it had anything to do with footwear) I think of that 1972 card.

  12. Centerfield wrote: If we're doing nicknames, we just drafted Jarred Colonic. Please describe, in detail, your Nickname Methodology.
  13. "Simeon Woods" sounds like a good name for an ape sanctuary.
  14. A 10 to 4 win makes 1970 our first cover to advance to the Final Four and sends 1962 and Baby Met to the showers, or, perhaps, a bath in the kitchen sink. ADVANCING TO ROUND FIVE: ELIMINATED:
  15. They could be soft line drives right to an infielder.
  16. I haven't kept tabs on Merandy. I was solely going by my recollection of your affection for him. If the players that Miami received don't pan out then I'd see no reason to rue the trade.
  17. The simple explanation for that deal is that the Mets were throwing in the towel for 2017 but saw an opportunity to start building their 2018 bullpen by trading for a reliever who was signed through this season. I expect that the plan was that Ramos would be a setup man for Familia. I didn't and don't object to the idea of acquiring Ramos, but my concern at the time, and now, is that they paid too steep a price in players for Ramos. If this season continues to go south, the conversation in this thread (or another one like it) will be about what we can get in return for trading Familia.
  18. He also has a great name. I wonder what its origin is?
  19. Voting for the all remaining games played in May will close on Tuesday, June 12.. If you're on the list below with a 17 next to your name, you're all caught up on the games that are about to close. If not, and if you're so inclined, please try to get your votes in over the next week. 20. Maybe I can come up with a poll where we vote on meat.
  21. I certainly hope not!
  22. It's nice that he was able to throw a ball. For as much as that's worth, anyway.
