I guess you're too young to remember when Mays joined the Mets. That's my favorite cover of the whole group.

Yesterday was Darryl vs. Darryl, today it's Casey vs. Casey. Pure coincidence. The two Darryl covers we saw yesterday were the 16th and 17th seeds, and today's covers are numbers 1 and 32. The second round has been all unanimity so far, but that's sure to change, probably by tomorrow. Here's the bracket, for anyone who missed it in the main thread. Tomorrow we'll see 15 vs. 18 and on Thursday, 2 vs. 31. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/magazines/mcd001.png>

Al Leiter for pitching coach.

It might be the dreaded "vote of confidence".

I suspect "the next guy" will be an interim manager from within the organization, and a full search will occur after the season ends.

Mike Puma speculates that Luis Rojas might be considered. If Callaway is dismissed — the Mets haven't fired a manager in-season since Willie Randolph in 2008 — bench coach Jim Riggleman is the top internal candidate to replace him. But quality control coach Luis Rojas is viewed as a rising star in the organization and could also be considered for the job.

The first round of The Magazine Cover Derby is now complete, and we have identified the 32 covers that are advancing to the second round. The covers are ranked by percentage of votes attained during first-round voting. In the few cases where there were ties, the cover that appeared in the earlier round got the higher ranking. Sports Illustrated leads all other publications by far, with 14 of the 32 winning covers. Sport Magazine, The Sporting News, and The New Yorker have two covers each. ESPN, Inside Sports, Jet, Jock, Life, McCalls, New York, New York Sports, New York Sunday News Magazine, New York Times Magazine, SarcoScope, and Time all have one surviving cover. 29 of the 32 covers feature one Met personality, while two feature a group of Mets and one features Mona Lisa. Of the 29 covers that feature one individual, Darryl Strawberry is the leader, with five covers. Tom Seaver has four, Casey Stengel and Dwight Gooden each have three, and Willie Mays has two. There is one remaining cover each for Gary Carter, Frank Cashen, Ron Darling, Jerry Grote, Bud Harrelson, Jay Hook, Dave Kingman, Ray Knight, Jerry Koosman, Jose Reyes, Ron Swoboda, and Noah Syndergaard. In Round Two, we'll see a Stengel vs. Stengel matchup, as well as as Seaver vs. Seaver and a Strawberry vs. Strawberry. We'll also see two Strawberry vs. Gooden battles. Voting for the second round will begin on Monday, May 20. Here's the full bracket: http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/magazines/mcd001.png>

The first pair I thought of, before I read your list, was William Powell and Myrna Loy. To me, they're the gold standard and I would have liked it if they had been cast in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner instead of Tracy and Hepburn. https://images.wisconsinhistory.org/700011220003/1122000054-l.jpg>
