  1. (I'm trying to think if the Mets ever had a player with the first name of "Fingers".)
  2. Mudcat Grant Roberts.
  3. Lou Brock Pemberton.
  4. 6: Dizzy Dean Chance
  5. 53 Hack Wilson Ramos

  9. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/magazines/2_13w.jpg> Third-round voting will begin next Monday, June 24.
  10. Hubie feels insulted
  11. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I like this thread but home run is two words, man Benjamin Grimm likes this.
  12. Their oldest child, Buffalo, is a boy. The second one, Schenectady, is a girl. This one will be named Utica if it's a girl and Rochester if it's a boy.
  13. I forgot about horizontal (or landscape) cards. Those should have a width of 400 pixels.
  14. =seawolf17 post_id=12963 time=1560524190 user_id=91] I'll coordinate and gather images.
  15. We can have many more than 128; the first round can have multiple cards to choose from.
  16. What did he do in that at-bat? Gary Cooper probably would have hit a home run.
  17. The update on the number of children is definitely the strangest part. Maybe that was a passive-aggressive statement suggesting that he's somewhat disconnected from his family life. When my wife gets home from work today, I think I may double-check with her to see how many kids we have. I can think of two of them offhand, but maybe there's a third one somewhere that I forgot about.
  18. Okay, if we do this, a Mets Baseball Card Derby, it will be after this winter's Tabloid Cover Derby, and it will be comprehensive. So we might as well start gathering the images now. Someone else will have to take the lead on that part, but if that gets done, I'd be glad to coordinate the voting and the polls next February or March. All the images would have to be at a standard size. Let's say 400 pixels high. That's what I use for the tabloid covers and the magazine covers. (For the yearbook covers I used 500 pixels.)
  19. That's an interesting idea for next spring!
  20. Maybe he's the same guy! The could be some truth to that fountain-of-youth stuff! I saw Juan Ponce de Leon's grave in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but I couldn't verify that he was actually in there.
  21. I voted for 1956, 1963, 1971, 1982, 1993, 2009, and 2013. The cards from the around 1990 and later were totally unfamiliar to me. I didn't submit my vote because they insisted on getting information from me and I didn't want to bother.
  22. Right! That was when he was closing in on 300 wins!
  23. Was there a day when the Mets had to finish a suspended game and had their starter for the regularly scheduled game take the mound for the resumption of the previous night's game? I think it may have been Seaver, and he ended up pitching one inning in the suspended game and getting a win, and then getting a second win that day in the "nightcap". Am I remembering correctly? (If only I had access to a database where I could look this kind of stuff up...)
  24. Robinson was considered for the role of Vito Corleone in The Godfather. I wish I could visit the alternative reality in which that actually happened in order to see what the movie would have been like.
  25. It's hard to believe there was a five-year stretch when the Mets made it to the World Series twice. We've since had a progression where we have to wait 13, then 14, then 15 years. Given that pattern, the Mets won't be back until 2031.
