  1. I saw a Daily News headline that said that Aaron Boone will be managing the '27 Yankees. I'm sure they left out the first two digits of the year so that we couldn't help but think of Murderer's Row. It's hard to believe that we're going to have another round of '27 Yankees. Hopefully this century's version will fall far short of the one from a hundred years earlier.
  2. Unfortunately, it's only available in the Mets' designated territory. If not for that limitation, I might have considered signing up for it.
  3. He definitely seems to be a malcontent wherever he goes.
  4. Officially announced today.
  5. I'll say Jared Young. Not that I know a damn thing about him, but only because he fits the criteria and why not? If I turn out to be right, I'll collect the $10,000 jackpot!
  6. Oops, I overlooked Jeff McNeil, 822 hits. He also has a (somewhat outside) shot at getting to 1,000 this season.
  7. I'm a little surprised at how much attention Pete's chase of Strawberry's Mets home run record has been getting. I didn't think that many people paid attention to this kind of stuff. I know I do. I remember noting when being in the Mets Top Ten finally required 100 home runs. (George Foster stopping at 99 delayed that much anticipated day.) We still don't have ten players with 1,000 hits. Darryl Strawberry is in ninth place with 1,025. Howard Johnson (997) and Jerry Grote (994) came tantalizingly close. Daniel Murphy (967) would have made it if he hadn't left the Mets after 2015. (Or if he hadn't missed the 2010 season.) The next guy to 1,000 will probably be Brandon Nimmo. He's 180 shy, and it's more likely that he'll get there in 2026 than in 2025. His career high is 162, in 2023. I'd certainly welcome a 180-hit season from Nimmo.
  8. I don't really care about the money either. If Steve Cohen is willing to spend it, it's perfectly fine by me. But the Mets often signal that they don't want to spend crazy money, and then take on an expense of $60 million for one year of Pete Alonso. So... wow.
  9. Yeah, he can't show up in St. Lucie with the appearance of someone who's there because he had no other options, even though that's probably true. His attitude needs to be, "I'm glad to be here! This is what I wanted all along!"
  10. September 4.
  11. Yes, it looks that way. $20 million for 2025, $24 million for 2026, plus a $10 million signing bonus.
  12. It seems almost guaranteed to end up there next year, doesn't it? It depends on how Pete performs this year. If he hits 45 homers, then yeah. But if he hits 22, I'm sure he'll take the $24 million for 2026 and hope for a better free agency after that. If Pete does opt out after 2025, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Mets said thanks for everything and then pivoted to Vlad, if he's still available.
  13. You'd lose! I include that phrase when filling out Christmas cards every year.
  14. Yeah, it looks like he was just blustering, not reporting any inside information.
  15. I'm waiting to hear what Motorcycle Sports Australia has to say about it.
  16. Oooooh! I hope so!
  17. Why not take a few steps further back and blame whatever Mets executive decided to draft Nimmo back in 2011?
  18. I think everyone on Earth, and most of the people on other planets, would be happy if this just got resolved as quickly as possible. I really do want Pete back, but I'm also getting sick of seeing his name in all of these updates that don't really tell us anything.
  19. From what we've been hearing, which may or may not be accurate, Boras is asking for $91 million over three years, and the Mets are offering about $70. Splitting the difference would mean the Mets are going up by $10 million. It's only about $3 million per year, so maybe that will happen.
  20. I think what CF is saying is that there's no advantage to the Mets in releasing their pivot plans to the public. It certainly makes sense to do that as a bargaining ploy in the private negotiations with Boras and Alonso.
  21. Darryl Strawberry essentially did that but yeah, it's not something you ever really see.
