Anne was probably creeped out as a child by having three of those things around the house!

You didn't include Smith among those who might be dangled. They really need to make a decision on the DH thing soon. If there won't be a DH, I'd be tempted to trade Nimmo for a starting pitcher and put Dom in left field. And yes, Rosario can be dangled as can Cano. It will be easier to find a home for Rosario than Cano; I think Cano is a contract that the new billionaire is going to have to eat eventually.

So we'd have Springer in center and Conforto and Nimmo on the corners? The DH question really needs to be answered soon. If the NL is going to have the DH, I'd put Smith on first (most of the time) and let Alonso DH (most of the time). But if there's no DH, I would think that Smith or Nimmo might be dealt.

Todd Zeile last night on Mets Hot Stove said he'd be "shocked" if Bauer didn't end up on the Mets, and Sandy has been openly discussing the possibility. But so far, the only documented offer that Bauer has received is from Edgy MD in the Francisco Lindor thread.

We'll be able to vote on these covers beginning Friday, November 20, in the final poll of the first round.

I suspect that Brodie extended the QO based on back-channel communications from Sandy Alderson. Sandy has pretty much confirmed that such messaging had been taking place.

I was actually surprised that everyone assumed he'd reject it. He didn't pitch in 2020 and there's expected to be a depressed market for free agents. Taking the guaranteed $18.9 million and trying again next year (he can never be QO'ed again) seems like the wise move.

Edgy MD wrote: Well, the way the do that is to offer a period of a few days, where the deal is not finalized until an agreement on an extension is reached. I still think that deal is overpaying, especially in a shortstop-crowded marketplace, but that's the way to ensure an extension. But I'm good with the Springer/McCann/Stroman priority system. If there's to be a consolidation trade, it's probably best to store up chips for a pitcher. It's also possible that the Mets will be the only team (or one of very few) interested in Lindor in this COVID environment, and the price in players might be cheaper than expected.

I suppose Binghamton could go to the New York-Penn league, but I don't know that that league is going to survive either.

During the conference today, Cohen said that there will be teams looking to unload big contracts, and that the Mets will be in a position to take advantage of that.

Frayed Knot wrote: Then that's a question for next winter. In the meantime, the topic being discussed here was dealing Rosario + Gimenez + ??? for him this winter specifically as a one-year rental because there's no other way but a trade to get him right now. But that trade could include a negotiating window. I think that that's the only way the Mets should make any kind of deal for Lindor, unless they're giving up a lesser package of players than what was proposed.

I wonder if the promising vaccine news from Pfizer (and the hoped for promising news from AstraZeneca) will encourage MLB to be a bit bolder in going forward with a longer season? They may still want to wait until May 1, but maybe they can plan a full schedule from that point forward?

Sandy also said that the Mets would have teams in Syracuse, Binghamton, Brooklyn, and St. Lucie. I had thought that Brooklyn was going to replace Binghamton in the Eastern League. So I'm not sure how this alignment is going to work.

Sandy: There are two currencies in baseball: Players and money. If the Mets hold on to their players, they'll have to spend more money. And they're prepared to do that.

The Mets will make sure they "have enough meat and potatoes, but they'll also shop in the gourmet section."

During the summer, Sandy sent Steve "a memo". I haven't seen a "memo" in almost thirty years!

Steve says he'll be somewhat disappointed if there's no World Series win in the next three to five years.
