  1. I agree. The outfield is questionable. It could turn out to be pretty good, if Robert rebounds and Baty or Benge settles into right field. But it's also possible that neither of those things happen, and the outfield will provide two weak lineup spots.
  2. I would guess that Benge will be held back, at least for a while, unless he really tears it up this spring. I don't expect that Stearns will be as generous as Brodie was (with Alonso) in skipping the chance to delay Benge's free agency.
  3. SNY is reporting that the Mets have announced that Juan Soto will be the Mets' left fielder in 2026 Mets star Juan Soto moving to left field
  4. Was a Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month. Died suddenly at 34. "Died suddenly" without further explanation often means suicide or drug overdose. I hope it wasn't either of those causes.
  5. Right? I don't think I can pin down the year, much less the date. For me, I knew it was 1971 because that was my first year as a Mets fan. And I recall the scoreboard wishing Cleon Jones a happy birthday. So it was easy enough to pinpoint the date. I also remembered Gary Gentry was the starter and that the Mets lost 1-0. That lined up with Cleon's 1971 birthday, which confirmed it.
  6. I don't know what the Tigers were thinking. Skubal is certainly better than Sean Manaea, who's making $25 million. And I'm certain there are many many examples of pitchers who are making more than $19 million who aren't nearly as good as Skubal.
  7. She definitely stood by her man.
  8. This is a question that came up in my Facebook feed from some unknown source. I don't answer these things because they just lead to spam, but I'm okay with repurposing the question. How many Hall-of-Famers played in the first game you saw in person, and who were they? For me it was Johnny Bench and Tony Perez. August 4, 1971, Reds vs. Mets at Shea. Pete Rose also played in that game. Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan were 1971 Mets, but neither appeared in the game that day. (Gary Gentry started for the Mets.) Joe Morgan didn't get into that game either, primarily because he was still a Houston Astro.
  9. I think deGrom is a possibility too, although an unlikely one at this point.
  10. My main gripe about the current team is how Gary keeps telling us about stupid statistical quirks. Something like, this is the first time since 1929 that an outfielder born under the sign of Sagittarius had three doubles on a Tuesday while also stealing a base and throwing a runner out at second base.
  11. I think of Vlad Sr. as an Expo. I don't think I would have thought of him as an Angel if I was playing Immaculate Grid.
  12. I would have asked why they continue to keep a manual scorecard. All the information they need is readily available elsewhere.
  13. Confession: Much of the time I'm only half listening to what the guys are saying.
  14. He says he wants to be like Ralph Kiner. Stay in the booth, but for fewer and fewer games as he ages.
  15. Newsday is reporting that Keith Hernandez has signed a new SNY contract. The article quotes Keith as saying he'd like a three-year contract, but it doesn't confirm the length of the actual deal that he's reportedly signing. https://www.newsday.com/sports/media/keith-hernandez-sny-mets-games-s03mvulh
  16. I know it's cool not to care about this, but I'm pleased.
  17. That last quote is interesting. They traded guys they wanted to trade, held onto the guys who were untouchable.
  18. He's the grandson of former Cubs infielder Don Kessinger.
  19. The fact that his name means "Mountains of Goose" seems noteworthy.
  20. Now I'm seeing rumors that the Mets are interested in trading for Luis Severino. I'm skeptical.
  21. I don't know that there's a spot for him, but Wilmer Flores is always welcome.
  22. Nothing against Harrison Bader, but I'm having a hard time readjusting my head to the latest scale of salaries. Bader doesn't seem like a guy who would make $10 million per year, but Kyle Tucker is making $60 million and Shohei Ohtani is making $70, so I guess $10 million is rather paltry. If I had one year of Harrison Bader's salary I would have retired years ago.
  23. I had thought that the plan was to bring it up as is, a functioning but "dated" website. I was definitely surprised to see how vapid it currently is, and the stock photos of softball players doesn't leave a great impression either. But I decided I was going to let go, and so I have. When I want to look something up for my own curiosity, I can use the legacy link that I shared above.
