  1. I expect he'll get his chance some time during the season.
  2. I really don't understand why the Mets are blacked out in your area. I live closer to New York than you do, but I can get my Mets games on the Extra Innings package. It makes no sense.

  5. I remember how in 2016 he couldn't swing a bat and bunted at every pitch, but none of the other teams seemed to know that.
  6. Missing service time also has the potential to delay Nimmo's free agency by a year.
  7. https://nypost.com/2022/03/17/mets-reaction-to-looming-new-york-vaccine-mandates/Mets' reaction to looming New York vaccine mandates The Post asked seven Mets players Wednesday whether they were vaccinated. From that group, three players (Scherzer, Jeff McNeil and Robinson Cano) said they were vaccinated. Four others (Nimmo, Pete Alonso, Dominic Smith and J.D. Davis) declined to answer. Great. This is going to affect Alonso as well. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/15/sports/baseball/yankees-mets.htmlUnvaccinated Mets and Yankees Players Can't Play in New York As M.L.B. and the union negotiated a new labor agreement, they also agreed that any player who is unable to play in any games as a result of any government regulation because of his vaccination status “may be placed” temporarily on the restricted list, where pay and service time are lost. Service time determines players' eligibility for salary arbitration and free agency. Okay, so I guess this means that the Mets will be able to field a full 26-man roster for their home games, but they'll have to make player maneuvers in order to do so. Let's say that Nimmo isn't vaccinated, so the Mets decide to use Khalil Lee to replace him during home games. But with the new limit on player options, I think (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) that Lee could only be sent to Syracuse five times this year, so on the sixth homestand the Mets would have to opt for someone else. Multiply that by however many unvaccinated players there might be, and that will add up to a huge roster churn. If this is how it plays out, we'll a lot more of guys like Mason Williams and Billy McKinney, rent-a-Mets with brief tenures.
  8. Ralph Terry was the 17th oldest living Met. With his death, Cliff Cook moves into the Top Twenty and Jack Fisher moves into the Top Forty.
  9. Mets reportedly close to reaching a deal to bring back old friend Chasen Shreve.
  10. Mets reportedly close to reaching a deal to bring back old friend Chasen Shreve.
  11. That is good news. I don't know why those names were ever abandoned.
  12. https://nypost.com/2022/03/16/mets-brandon-nimmo-addresses-nyc-vaccine-mandate/Brandon Nimmo not sure where Mets stand with ‘completely new' vaccine reality Brandon Nimmo wasn't expecting a vaccination mandate to play baseball in New York this season. But the Mets outfielder and union representative said Wednesday it isn't a major concern for the club, even with a significant number of players on the team unvaccinated against COVID. “Right now we are still 3 ½ weeks away, so a lot can happen,” Nimmo said before a team workout at Clover Park. “When we get to that time, we can address it. Right now we're just going to focus on baseball, we'll see where all that stuff lands. If it comes time we'll address that stuff.” Nimmo declined to say if he was vaccinated. On Tuesday, The Post reported only about 55 percent of the Mets players were vaccinated at one point last season. Nimmo didn't dispute that figure. That's a good plan. Just wait until Opening Day is imminent and then "see where all that stuff lands". No sense being proactive and, like, getting vaccinated or something.
  13. Yeah, I think Kris Bryant would be a better fit, because he wouldn't push Pete to DH and Cano to wherever Cano would go. But I get the impression that the Mets aren't in on either of those guys. I hope I'm wrong.
  14. Or discouraging. We can't be sure whether this reflects on Smith or on Scherzer.
  15. Reports are that the Mets will solely focus on pitching and not another bat, but I think they still need some of both. I'd be happier if Mark Canha was more of a reserve than a starter.
  16. I would love to know which Mets players are potentially affected by this. (And I hope we won't have to find out.) Let's say it's five players. Does that mean that the Mets will effectively have a 21-man roster for every game they play in New York City? That's untenable. And what if it's eight players? Or twelve? What could the Mets possibly do, other than a quick overhaul of the roster. Someone like JD Davis can be disposed of easily enough. James McCann less so, because of the position he plays. And Brandon Nimmo? I really don't know.
  17. I had never heard of Kyrie Irving until this thread was posted. It's hard to believe that this has been going on as long as it has. The Nets can't be okay with this. Is he getting paid for all the games he's missed because of foolish stubbornness?
  18. New York Post : Unvaccinated Yankees, Mets won't be allowed to play in home games. https://nypost.com/2022/03/15/unvaccinated-yankees-mets-wont-be-allowed-to-play-in-home-games/https://nypost.com/2022/03/15/unvaccinated-yankees-mets-wont-be-allowed-to-play-in-home-games/ Article says that the 2021 Mets had only slightly more than 50 percent of the players vaccinated.
  19. This also means that unvaccinated visiting players won't be able to play either. Being ineligible for 81 home games might induce a Mets player to get the vaccine, but we may have cases where a star visiting player will sit out a three-game series at Citi Field because he doesn't want to get vaccinated just to play in three games. This is an interesting wrinkle.
  20. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlbs-runner-on-second-in-extras-rule-reportedly-could-return-league-testing-ball-strike-challenge-in-minors/https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlbs-runner-on-second-in-extras-rule-reportedly-could-return-league-testing-ball-strike-challenge-in-minors/ The extra-innings ghost-runner rule may not be going away just yet. MLB and the MLBPA are discussing bringing the rule, which places a runner at second base at the beginning of every half-inning after the ninth inning, back as part of the league's health and safety protocols for the 2022 season, report The Athletic's Matt Gelb and Jayson Stark. No agreement has been reached on the tiebreaker rule or the healthy and safety protocols in general, though several players told Gelb and Stark they expect the rule to return in 2022. MLB and the MLBPA agreed to do away with the rule, as well as seven-inning doubleheader games, as part of the new collective bargaining agreement. The healthy and safety protocols are expected to be announced later this week.
  21. Saw that Cano apologized to the team for his suspension last season. I doubt that many of them cared a whole lot.
  22. DeGrom plans to opt out of his contract at the end of this season, according to this article: https://www.nj.com/mets/2022/03/mlb-rumors-mets-jacob-degrom-makes-big-decision-about-his-future.htmlhttps://www.nj.com/mets/2022/03/mlb-rumors-mets-jacob-degrom-makes-big-decision-about-his-future.html
  23. Do individual teams choose their uniform sponsors, or is it an MLB-wide thing?
  24. How about Met Life? Who could object to seeing Snoopy on a Mets batting helmet?
  25. Or the opening to the theme song of Sesame Street.
