  1. The Mets starter for tomorrow is also TBD, so I'll give Syracuse a lot of slack here.
  2. I tried to figure out who "TBD" might be, but the Mets have never had any player with those initials. So I have no idea who's starting for the Mets tomorrow. Weather permitting, of course. The Weather Channel's hourly forecast as of now, on Opening Eve, has it raining pretty much through the 6 o'clock hour, which may mean that the game could be delayed by about three hours. We'll see...

  4. I would really like to see them make a deal for a starting pitcher. I like Megill as the sixth guy, but the depth falls off pretty quickly after that. Maybe Peterson will be okay, maybe not. It might be wise to trade McNeil or Smith or Davis for the best established starter they can get.
  5. Maybe a complex pat on the butt? I'm not sure what that would look like, but it might not be appropriate for viewing by underage fans.
  6. Edgy MD wrote: That happens too. But unfortunately, as effective as it might be, when a guy pulls it off, he gets a pat on the butt and then the team forgets about it for two weeks, when they should do it over and over again until the shift is finally abandoned.. I absolutely agree with this, but it just doesn't seem to be happening. It's strange that teams that are "smart" enough to implement a shift aren't also smart enough to beat it. I've come around to accepting the idea of banning the shift. It's not going to go away organically any time soon, and in the meantime it's making the game that much less entertaining to watch.
  7. I hope he surprises me, but I'm not expecting much from him. I think he'll lose his left field job to Brett Baty by July.
  8. I've sometimes done the opposite, eating something I probably should have thrown away.
  9. Was the 40th oldest living Met at the time of his death. He only entered the Top Forty a couple of weeks ago when Bill Short died. His spot in the Top Forty now goes to Bob Hendley.
  10. Thunderstorms predicted for Thursday in DC, so you may have a little extra time.
  11. 1. Reach base safely; MARTE 2. Get a hit MARTE 3. Double ESCOBAR 4. Triple MARTE 5. HR ALONSO 6. Score a run LINDOR 7. draw a walk MARTE 8. get hit by a pitch NIMMO 9. Hit a sacrifice fly McNEIL 10. Steal a base MARTE 11. Get thrown out at home DAVIS 12. Strike out as a hitter ALONSO 13. Drive in more than 1 run in a single turn at bat ALONSO 14. Appear as a pinch hitter SMITH 15. Get a "walk-off" RBI CANHA Pitching/fielding: Name the first Met to: 16. Get credit for a win LUGO 17. credit for a save DIAZ 18. Make an appearance as a relief pitcher RODRIGUEZ 19. Take a loss MAY 20. Fielder to commit an error DAVIS 21. Outfielder credited with an assist CANHA Extra Credit/Tiebreakers: 22. Predict the date of Buck's first ejection MAY 3 23. Score the first play of the *top* of the first inning, first game K (usually a safe bet) 24. First Met to reach 2 home runs for the season: ALONSO
  12. By Thursday, I think our Opening Day starter will be someone like Trevor Williams.
  13. I do think there are better deals to be had. Maybe some other team will see this and make a better offer.
  14. I think they definitely should trade one of those three guys for a starting pitcher.
  15. I hope he brings his warthog, or whatever the hell that was. Maybe Lindor and McNeil can argue about its exact species.
  16. Disappointing, but not surprising. He'd be a fool to opt out of his contract at the end of the year.
  17. Looks like Scherzer's Mets debut may not be on Apple+ after all.
  18. I kind of felt the same way recently when I saw Luis Guillorme's name and thought, "Wow! I had totally forgotten him." And yeah, I'm having trouble retaining the notion that Starling Marte is a Met. (I wonder if his whole family is named after birds? Does he have a sister named "Flamingo" and a brother named "Ostrich"?) I lapsed into indifference after the 1994 strike, and I never fully got back to where I was before. I watched the 1995 World Series and it was the first one where I realized I didn't care at all what happened. That remains the last time I watched a post-season series that didn't involve the Mets. (The one exception was the last game of the 2004 ALCS, because I wanted to watch the Yankees complete their collapse.)
  19. Ask him who wrote "Little Women".
  20. I've been thinking (or maybe just hoping) the same thing. 2022 is to Lindor as 2006 is to Beltran.
  21. 25 starts. 11-6. 3.05 ERA. Two Schaefer Pitcher of the Month awards.
  22. Rare that a minor league season opens before the big leagues do.
  23. Yeah, the Dodgers really blew it. They could have had their uniform read HOLLYWOOD (looking like the famous sign) and had palm trees or something. Although if it was up to me, I would have based the uniform on the La Brea Tar Pits.
