Well, yeah, I regret it already, but Zwack may turn out to be a big nothing, in which case it won't really matter. I don't object to the notion of trading J.D. Davis... He was probably the best player that they were willing to part with. I just wish that they had leveraged him better, for a player that would have contributed. There's a chance that we'll see this deal differently if Ruf hits 30 homers next season. (Unless he does it for the Texas Rangers.)
2. We may also come to regret that Nick Zwack was included in that trade.

5. If McNeil sits out today's game, Freeman will have to go 4 for 4 to pass him.
6. 2022 marks the 4th time that the Mets have won 100 or more games in a season. The 98 wins in 1985 had been the most that the Mets had ever won in a season in which they did not finish in first place. That may still turn out to be the case, I think. If the Mets win today and the Braves lose, the Mets will go on the record as having finished tied for first place, but without winning a division title. Most team wins in a season 1. 108 (1986) 2. 100 (1969, 1988, 2022) 5. 98 (1985) 6. 97 (1999, 2006) 8. 94 (2000) 9. 92 (1987) 10. 91 (1990) 11. 90 (1984, 2015)
7. MLB's site has the postseason schedule updated with the Wild Card matchups, but all game times are still listed as TBD. I expect that we'll find out today who plays when.
8. The postseason bracket is now settled. The Mets will play the Padres with the winner facing the Dodgers. Blue Jays will play the Mariners, winner faces the Astros. Cardinals will play the Phillies, winner faces the Braves. Guardians will play the Rays, winner faces the Astros.

[TH]Playoff Seed[/th][TH]Current Team[/th][TH]Other Possibilities[/th]
9. METS IN THE WILD CARD SERIES All-Time Leaders This is a very modest set of statistics. Some of these records are sure to be broken, such as "Games". I'm hoping we'll get to erase the zeros under "Runs" and "Wins". Batting Leaders Games 1. 10. I see the official Mets account doesn't endorse the F in LFGM.
11. The hourly forecast on weather.com has it as "Cloudy" until 8, then Showers, and then Rain at 9. So maybe they can get one game in.
12. As noted above, the Phillies have clinched a Wild Card, which means the Brewers are eliminated from the postseason. The Blue Jays have clinched the top Wild Card. All that remains to be determined is whether the Phillies will take the second Wild Card from the Padres, and whether the Rays will do the same from the Mariners. And, of course, whether the Braves will be able to close out the N.L. East. The Padres' Magic Number over the Phillies, for the right to face the Mets, is 2, and each team has two games remaining. In the four combined games, the Padres need two Happy Outcomes and the Phillies need three. (The Phillies hold the tiebreaker advantage over the Padres.) 13. Five out of five is a little less daunting than six out of six. Five games remaining: Three for the Mets, two for the Braves. If they all go the right way, we get to skip the Wild Card round. Three games scheduled for Tuesday. If we get three Happy Outcomes, Wednesday will suddenly be interesting. 14. Now we need five out of five.
15. Yes. We need six Happy Outcomes in six games.
16. I wonder if Hot Dogs and Apple Pie have their own alternative winners.
17. MLB.com says it's Freddie Freeman...? https://www.mlb.com/awards/player-of-the-monthhttps://www.mlb.com/awards/player-of-the-month Wow... the Mets haven't had a Player of the Month since David Wright in June 2010.
18. I don't think hot-stoving needs to be deferred. I'm sure the Mets front office is talking about 2023 despite 2022 not being over yet, so we can too. Steve Cohen has said that there's a ceiling to how much he's willing for the Mets payroll to be, so he may have to consider whether or not he wants to go big for deGrom. Alonso is due for a big payday soon, and Nimmo and Diaz (among others) are free agents.
19. Anthony DiComo on McNeil's chances at winning the batting title: CAN McNEIL WIN THE BATTING TITLE? Jeff McNeil has some work to do in the Mets' final series this week if he wants to become just the second player in franchise history to win a batting title -- but it's not out of the realm of possibility. McNeil entered Monday hitting .326, putting him just one point behind Freddie Freeman's MLB-leading .327 mark. McNeil was hitting .314 just eight games ago, but he's recorded multiple hits in seven of his past eight games -- during which he's hitting .476 (17-for-35) -- to put himself back in the mix to join José Reyes (2011) as the Mets' only NL batting champions. McNeil, however, would be the first to lead MLB outright. It also doesn't hurt that McNeil will be closing the season with three favorable matchups. Not only are the Nationals scheduled to start three right-handers at Citi Field, but each of them -- Cory Abbott (5.11 ERA), Paolo Espino (4.30 ERA) and Erick Fedde (5.27 ERA) -- has had his struggles this season. So, let's do the math on this one. Assuming McNeil averages four at-bats over the final three games and goes a reasonable 4-for-12 (.333), that would bring his season average to .326. As for Freeman, his projections are slightly tougher. He's the type of player who prides himself on playing every day (he's missed only nine games over the past five seasons), but the Dodgers have already locked up home-field advantage throughout the postseason. So let's tentatively pencil him in for 10 at-bats. In order for McNeil to win the batting title with his hypothetical .326 average, Freeman would need to go 2-for-10 or worse.
20. According to the Ultimate Mets Database: Mets record in games started by Jacob deGrom 2014: (11-11) 2015: (20-10) 2016: (12-12) 2017: (17-14) 2018: (14-18) 2019: (14-18) 2020: (8-4) 2021: (11-4) 2022: (6-5) That's 113 wins and 96 losses.
21. =nymr83 post_id=109765 time=1664815448 user_id=54]I'd prefer going back to East/West with no Central in each league and then implementing the current system with 2 division winners and 4 wild cards. winning ANY division then has equal merit and the top 2 wild card spots also hold greater merit in hosting the 1st round.
22. It's possible that deGrom has pitched his last regular-season game as a Met. If so, his final Toyota numbers are 82 wins (tied with Jon Matlack for 7th place) and 57 losses (13th place), with a 2.52 ERA (best among pitchers with 500 or more innings; Tom Seaver's Mets ERA was 2.57) in 1,326 innings (8th place). 209 games (27th place), all as a starter (7th in starts). 1,607 strikeouts (4th place) and 303 walks (19th place). He's 192 strikeouts behind Jerry Koosman and 268 behind Dwight Gooden. Those numbers are within reach if he returns. Seaver is ahead of him by 934 strikeouts. DeGrom is very unlikely to get anywhere close to that. He only trails Seaver by one Cy Young award, however.
23. I assume it will be Walker on Tuesday and deGrom on Wednesday if the Mets and Braves are tied for first that morning. Otherwise, the Mets probably should start someone who won't be on the postseason roster. Don't know if they can get someone like Butto or Lucchesi on the roster for that last game.

25. As we all well know, the Mets have only the faintest of hopes of winning the division title this year. We need happy outcomes in all six remaining games. Changes in the second chart are that the Brewers can no longer be the Second Wild Card, the slot that is now the all-but-certain Mets first-round opponent. It will be either the Padres or the Phillies. And in the American League, the Rays are out of the running for the First Wild Card, and the Blue Jays are now guaranteed to at least have the Second Wild Card.
