4. Nothing good to report here, unless you hate the Giants. They're now officially eliminated from postseason contention. After tonight's game, the NHOP number will start to make more sense again. It will be 1.000 if the Braves win, meaning that all six remaining games have to go the Mets' way. It will be .500 if the Mets win, which is a much better number. 5. 6. All three of the American League Wild Cards have been established... all that's left is determining how they'll be seeded. All three are expansion teams. That may happen in the National League as well if we end up with Mets-Padres-Brewers. The Orioles have now been eliminated. Giants still in it, but barely. The Astros have locked up the top seed, so the division winners will be seeded as Astros-Yankees-Guardians. The National League will also have its division winners ranked as Western-Eastern-Central. 9. Well, the first game in Atlanta didn't go well. Not sure what to make of the NHOP number. As noted previously, the number makes less sense when there's a large proportion of head-to-head games remaining. 10. Mets-Cardinals, October 1985.The stakes were higher.

12. This will be the first time the Mets have ever had two guys named "Francisco" in the starting lineup. It's even the first time they've had two Franciscos on the roster at the same time. He'll only be the fourth Met with that name, following Estrada (who is often listed as "Frank"), Rodriguez, and Lindor.
13. He's on the roster at the expense of Darin Ruf, who's on the IL with a "neck strain". How convenient!
14. As Gary Cohen might say, "Fascinating". The short term is obviously more important right now, but I can't help but wonder how and if the Mets might dispose of McCann over the winter.
15. My preference would be to give Alvarez number 8. Maybe he can wear it for 15 years and they can retire it for him, and the Gary Carter fans can pretend that it was done for Gary. They can even invite Carter's grandchildren to the ceremony.
16. Carter aside, the notion that the Mets need to add another five statues outside of Citi Field is also ridiculous.
17. Fasten your seat belts!
18. I'd like to see him in a one-digit number. The only ones currently available are 5, 7, and 8. As noted, 8 seems to be in limbo and I'm pretty sure nobody will ever wear 5 again. Maybe they can switch him to 9 next year if Nimmo leaves. If it was up to me, I think I'd give him 7. Or maybe 35. I don't know! I'm glad I don't have to make these important decisions.
19. The Marlins and Nationals, the two teams that are playing the Braves and the Mets next week, are currently playing the Brewers and Phillies. They're in a position to affect two different races over the next week.
20. What uniform number should he wear? I'd like to see him in a 15 or an 8, but a 7 would be good too.

22. The Mariners have moved into the Second Wild Card, ahead of the Rays. Blue Jays have clinched a Wild Card and as a result, the Orioles can no longer get the First Wild Card. The Brewers had a chance to bump the Phillies out of the Third slot, but lost to the Marlins last night and therefore remain a half game behind.

[TH]Playoff Seed[/th][TH]Current Team[/th][TH]Other Possibilities[/th]
23. I'm rooting for the Brewers. I live in the Philadelphia market and having the Phillies in the postseason would be too annoying.
24. And I suspect that that's probably the most likely outcome. (Mets winning one of three.)
