  1. As long as he wears the pinstripes, I can't root for Alex Rodriguez. A monster year? No thanks.
  2. More proof that he sucks. Boy, it would be great if he was in Anaheim or the South Side of Chicago next year.
  3. Voting for Tuesday night's Mets win in Philadelphia will close on Friday morning. http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=6123
  4. I turned it on at 3-0. Not a great start for Dontrelle, huh?
  5. He'll get his injury, whatever it is, looked at after the season ends.
  6. True, but I don't recall that such a thing has happened all that much. I remember once somebody gave Trachsel only one point for pitching a shutout. And I also recall Glavine getting only one point once for 7 innings and 1 earned run. You're right, though: win or lose, the more voters the better.
  7. I'm afraid my spreadsheet doesn't handle weenie points. Sorry.
  8. And the Schaefer Mets Most Frequently Misspelled Name of the Month Award for April goes to... Scott Schoeneweis! (I haven't memorized the spelling yet myself.) Everyone who misspells the name gets tripped up on the same letter: that E that comes between the N and the W.
  9. Every supermarket in the Philadelphia area has, on its magazine racks, the current issue of Philadelphia Magazine featuring a big smiling closeup of Ryan Howard's face. The caption is, "HE WON'T LET US DOWN" Terrible expectations to put on a young player. I don't know if Howard will ultimately let them down or whether he won't, but he very well might. I remember when we would have said the same thing about Dwight Gooden. And I'm glad we're not quite saying it about David Wright yet.
  10. If you want to figure out votes per win, votes per loss, votes per score differential, and more, these pages will tell you: http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/rawdata.php?year=2006 http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/rawdata.php?year=2007 Just paste into a spreadsheet and have fun. The number of voters in a game has little impact, though. Fewer voters means less diversity of opinion, but each game still gets counted equally. The votes are averaged, not totaled.

  12. Voting for the April 12 game against the Phillies will close on Tuesday morning. http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=6082

Nymr83 wrote: well if everyone can just do what the want i should be allowed to give 8 points to the guy who throws a 3-hit shutout or to Alfonzo's 6-6 3HR game, but yeah we've been htrough all this, its an unscheduled offday what else can we talk about? It's a scale of 1 to 6, not a scale of 1 to 10. I don't see why that's so hard to understand.
  14. And Delgado follows that by grounding to the pitcher. Ugh. Unless Wright gets a hit, a leadoff triple by Endy may be wasted.
  15. Kid Carsey wrote: Is it me, or does Beltran look like he has his head up his ass in center early on this season.I don't know about that, but I don't like seeing him strike out with nobody out and a runner on third.
  16. I've taken this as far as I care to. The intermingled players are easy enough to sort out.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: How are you crediting the ptichers? Do they get full credit for all outs they get, or do they share it with the defense? It seems like it would go to the pitcher for getting the out. Players get credit for reaching base on an error. And I think the pitcher would be penalized for the error even if someone else made it.
  18. Okay, I went ahead and did it. I slapped together a little spreadsheet that counts up the "points" for each player. Paste the table from this page (this is from April 9) into the spreadsheet, run a macro, and you get the following results. J Rollins -0.087 J Maine -0.094 S Victorino 0.151 C Utley 0.017 J Reyes 0.269 C Hamels -0.115 P Lo Duca -0.06 C Beltran 0.089 R Howard 0.319 P Burrell 0.005 C Ruiz -0.069 A Rowand 0.099 A Nunez -0.083 C Delgado 0.323 D Wright -0.238 M Alou 0.05 S Green 0.095 J Valentin 0.164 A Burgos -0.297 J Smith 0.037 D Easley -0.04 M Smith -0.128 G Geary -0.531 P Feliciano 0.055 J Franco 0.147 J Lieber -0.081 E Chavez 0 B Wagner 0.003 What's cool about this is that players can get negative points as well as positive points. If anyone wants to take ownership of this just let me know and I'll send you the spreadsheet. You'd have to come up with your own way of tracking season totals. And you'd also have to filter out the numbers for the opposing players.
  19. holychicken wrote: ="A Boy Named Seo"]From FanGraphs.com: The play log has win expectancy for ever batter of the game, plus some other neat stuff. Edit: Got rid of the graph. I don't want to fuck up the game. You can still get it here. Anyone a programmer (besides me) who is motivated (probably not me)? I think it would be interesting to use this tool to grab the data from every game and calculate which players contribute the most to increasing (and decreasing) our probability of winning over the season. As I mentioned to edgy in another thread, this might be a interesting way to generate another "PoTG" type of ranking. Any takers? Or am I the only programmer here? I was thinking the same thing. I might be willing to program a spreadsheet, but I won't take custody of tracking the results.
  20. I'm hoping he's in their plans for 2032. It would be nice for him to come back for the 25th anniversary celebration of the 2007 World Championship.
  21. And then there's wins. Tom Glavine won't ever pass Tom Seaver, but Bob Ojeda, Craig Swan, and Rick Reed have reason to worry this year: 1.Tom Seaver1982.Dwight Gooden1573.Jerry Koosman1404.Ron Darling995.Sid Fernandez986.Al Leiter957.Jon Matlack828.David Cone819.Bobby Jones7410.Steve Trachsel6611.Rick Reed5912.Craig Swan59 13.Bob Ojeda5114.Tom Glavine50
  22. We've had similar threads in previous seasons as we watch the current Mets climb various all-time lists. So here we go with the 2007 round. I'll start it off with this: José Reyes, with his 3 triples so far this year, now has 43. He's in third place on the all-time Mets list, just two behind Bud Harrelson. Mookie Wilson is in first place with 62. Unless José picks up on his 17-per-year pace, he'll have to wait until 2008 to become the Mets leading tripler.
  23. I saw a couple of clips on Letterman. Movie looks unwatchable.
  24. He'd be ranked lower on the 2006 list because of his shorter tenure.
