  1. This talk of Milledge sticking on the roster for the first two weeks and then getting sent down reminds me of a similar plan for Benny Agbayani in 2000. He got off to a good start and ended up sticking around for the entire season. I'm hoping that Milledge has a similar experience this year.
  2. From the Associated Press: ]Mets outfielder Lastings Milledge was hit on the right hand by a ninth-inning pitch from Matt Albers and left the game. Tests revealed only a bruise. Milledge was prescribed anti-inflammatory medicine, ice and a few days off.
  3. Could be. Although knowing that crowd, it's more likely a Pop-Tart overdose.
  4. Holy crap, Rey Ordonez is in 14th place??? Ahead of Rusty Staub??? If I had to guess, I would have picked Rey's lifetime hit total to be closer to about 40.
  5. I think there are still plenty of Muslim bad guys in Hollywood productions.
  6. I think we should stuff the ballot box for "Brown Sugar." Then he'd have to explain why they play a song about raping slaves every time he comes to the plate.
  7. Ladies and gentlemen, your 1984 Jackson Mets!
  8. I blame Oprah Winfrey.
  9. Kenny Rogers pitched well for the Mets. And that bases-loaded walk that he's reviled for took place in Atlanta. Having the words NEW YORK on his jersey probably had nothing to do with the location of that pitch.
  10. It doesn't much matter to me if he's 20-70 or 40-40, as long as he's productive. Get on base, score runs. Help the Mets win.
  11. I voted low 20's.
  12. Here's what I have on Wilbur Huckle so far: http://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=3E24
  13. Thanks, Doc. Now I'm VERY aware of what a golf clap is!
  14. What is a "golf clap" anyway? I don't think I ever heard the term until last week.
  15. Lastings Milledge showing solidarity with Britney Spears! I wonder if he's also going commando style.
  16. Ricardo Jordan has been getting a larger than normal share of hits on the UMDB yesterday and today, and a little investigation has revealed why: ]Former pitcher sentenced in drug case WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A former major league pitcher was sentenced to seven years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to charges of selling cocaine and marijuana. Ricardo Jordan, a 36-year-old former reliever for the Blue Jays, Phillies, Mets and Reds, also has been ordered to pay fines totaling US$150,000, his lawyer, Grey Tesh, said. Jordan did not use cocaine, but was "lured into selling the cocaine" to make up for the income he was no longer receiving while playing baseball, Tesh said. Jordan was 5-4 in the major leagues from 1995 through 1998.
  17. It's Newhan's head that I find particularly startling.
  18. Is Delgado playing? I read this morning that he was suffering from a stiff neck yesterday.
  19. I doubt it. If anything, maybe the Florida teams will scrunch closer together over time. I wouldn't mind them moving to Arizona though. I never make spring training trips anyway, but if I were to do so, I'd much rather go to Arizona than Florida. Also, if I ever retire to a warm climate, Arizona is a much more likely destination for me than Florida is.
  20. Cashen was the GM at the time.
  21. Count me among those who would have voted Wright a year ago but voted Reyes this year. Twelve months from now I might vote for Wright again. Call me a flip-flopper, if you must. I would have voted for Wright before I voted against him.
  22. Only at the very beginning. He led Galactus to Earth so that he could feed on the planet's life energies. But when he met the lovely albeit blind sculptress Alicia Masters, he realized that the human race was worth saving, and he turned on Galactus. He's been one of the good guys ever since.
  23. I don't want to post it here. You can just go to the "Memories of Stanley Jefferson" page on the UMDB.
  24. I just noticed that Mrs. Jefferson (Christie, not Weezie) left a memory of her hubby on the UMDB a while back. And she left an e-mail address, which can be used if anyone wants to send some words of encouragement to her and Stanley.
