  2. No-hitter through four.
  3. Lou Seal??? That's a new one on me. When I read that name, I made three inkblot connections. In order they were: A song by (I think) Little Richard, Mrs. Arnaz, a song by Kenny Rogers.
  4. Shake Moore?
  5. Dwight Bernard? Rick Baldwin? Greg Harris? Mark Bomback?
  6. metirish wrote: Russo is killing Murphy for wanting to cash in on his catch. That's absurd. If I had a baseball that was worth $300,000 I'd be sure to sell it. The guy's 22 years old. He can pay off his college and/or buy his first house with that money. Why should he keep a stupid baseball? I'd rather have a house than a baseball.
  7. Bobby Brown? Jesse Orosco?
  8. My "some other guy" was Kelvin Chapman.
  9. Note: This post was inadvertantly edited by the administrator, who is reconstrucitng it from memory: John Stearns, Wally Backman, Ron Gardenhire, some other guy?
  10. I'm guessing that this was during spring training 1977? I'll say Lee Mazzilli, Neil Allen...
  11. Edgy DC wrote: Does the apple have a page in the UMDB? No. So far only human beings (and Roger Clemens) have been eligible.
  12. Mike Bacsik has deftly parlayed this experience into his first-ever daily hitcount victory on the Ultimate Mets Database. And today he looks certain to make it two in a row. (Unless Jeff Reardon robs another jewelry store, or Kevin Mitchell beheads another cat, or David Cone masturbates in public, or Cory Lidle finds a way to posthumously crash a plane into an apartment building.)
  13. There was an article about this the other day in the Daily News. Apparently the official word is that there will be an apple at Citi Field, but it won't be the current apple. According to a Mets spokesman, the Shea Stadium apple is too fragile and will need to be replaced. The apple will be preserved and displayed somewhere at Citi Field and its place in Mets history will be suitably honored. Of course, it's pure nonsense that a 25-year-old mechanical apple can't be restored and refurbished. You occasionally see cars three times that old on the streets and highways. And they're restoring Leonardo's "Last Supper," which, if I have my dates right, is much older than the Shea Stadium apple. The article said that there's a movement among Mets fans not just to have an apple at Citi Field, but to have the apple from Shea. I think it would be a nice tribute to Shea Stadium to have its apple survive, but I can't imagine being so worked up about this to start or get involved in a "movement."
  14. I would think that Hank Aaron's 715 ball would be worth more than his 755.

  18. Skip Lockwood was an infielder. I don't know if he ever played that position in the majors though.
  19. Maybe a great Mets pitcher will debut in 2007. 2006 has a couple of candidates, but I don't see any for 2007. Joe Smith? 300 saves maybe, but 300 wins seems unlikely.
  20. The business about the 30 home runs in the minor leagues was funny.
  21. Two starts in a row for Lo Duca! Should we start monitoring Castro's fuse?
  22. Haven't had a 300-game winner since Warren Spahn!
  23. No offense, but I think I'd prefer Michael Tucker.
  24. Ah! Now that makes more sense!
  25. The first time I read his signature I thought it said "Pele" but on closer inspection it looks more like "Ball."
