  1. A 4-6 start is looking a whole lot better than an 0-5 start.

  3. Well, they won't all be wearing uniform number 7. Does that design work if the number in the purple circle is a 40?
  4. Queensboro Bridge is nice, but I would have preferred the Unisphere.
  5. Maybe they can have the elbow guards light up like a restaurant beeper if it gets hit by a baseball. Or buzz like when you touch the edges while playing Operation. Or it can have a WiFi connection so it can loudly play Mary Had a Little Lamb* over the stadium PA system upon impact. * Why that song? Why not?

  7. Four of those guys went on to have really good careers. Morgan in the Hall of Fame, Rusty just on the outside. Jim Wynn (The Toy Cannon, for some reason) played 15 years in the big leagues. He stayed in Houston the longest; he was there through 1973. He'd go on to the Dodgers, Braves, Yankees, and Brewers, although I don't remember any of that. https://www.tcdb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/72/72-770Fr.jpg> He died in March 2020 (COVID?) at the age of 78.

While a better is welcome to come to the plate wearing any reinforced armor that they might choose, if the batter gets hit on any armored part of the body, apart from the neck or head, they are not ruled as hit by the pitch, they do not get a base, and the pitch counts as a ball or strike as called by the umpire. The play is called dead, and runners are returned to their bases. I think there should be an exception to this. If the ball is coming right at the hitter and he makes a clear effort to get out of the way and it happens to hit him on a padded area, it should count as a HBP. Your rule should apply in the (many) cases we see where the batter stands still and lets the ball hit him. Edgy MD wrote: 2. A ball that nicks the batter on the body or uniform but is caught on the fly by the catcher is not ruled as a hit batter, the batter does not get a base, and the pitch counts as called by the umpire. The play is live, and runners may attempt to advance. Much as a foul tip into the catcher's mitt is counted in all ways as a swing and a miss. "Nicks" is kind of subjective. I can see this making sense if the path of the ball isn't affected by the impact with the batter, but if a batter is plunked squarely in the ribs and the catcher catches the rebound, I think it should be a HBP. Edgy MD wrote: 1. A batter who is judged to have been officially hit by a pitch with ball four shall be awarded two bases, with runners advancing as forced. So it's a BB and a HBP? Interesting. Edgy MD wrote: 2. A batter who is judged to have been officially hit by a pitch in the head or neck shall be awarded two bases, with runners advancing as forced. I kinda like this. Edgy MD wrote: 3. When a batter is officially judged to have been hit by a pitch in the head or neck, the pitcher shall be removed from the game, regardless of any apparent intent or lack thereof. I don't think I like this.

  12. =Centerfield post_id=150882 time=1712368264 user_id=65] You should go to Peru.
  13. And a division title the following season! And then two years of heart breaking collapse followed by a new stadium. It can all happen again.

  15. Last I looked, the planned starters in Cincinnati were Quintana, Severino, and Manaea. Unless that's changed, I'm surprised they dropped a reliever prior to Monday, which would be the earliest we'd expect to see Teheran.
  16. And does he still have sisters named Olive, Kelly, and Emerald?
  17. From November 2016: At about 6 p.m., emergency responders were called to south I-35 at mile marker 354 where a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck ran off the roadway and rolled onto the passenger side of the vehicle, killing Naomi Sharron Zachry, 65. Sharron Zachry was a longtime educator in the Midway school district. She was both a teacher and a principal at Hewitt Elementary and an assistant principal at the middle school before taking the principal post at the high school. She put off retirement plans at the high school and went to Castleman Creek Elementary, which opened in 2009. Her husband, Pat Zachry, 64, of Waco, was driving and was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital, where he was in stable condition and was expected to be released, Wilson said.
  18. I just found an article from the Cincinnati Enquirer. This wasn't a natural death. Apparently it was a car accident that also killed his wife. EDIT: Oops, the article is from eight years ago. Zachry survived that accident but his wife didn't.
  19. I remember a game when he was perfect for a while (not sure how long) but it all unraveled and when he left the game he kicked the dugout step and broke his foot. I may be conflating two different games. It was obviously a long time ago.
  20. I've never had Skyline Chili, though I would certainly try it. I can't imagine it's worse than those awful Primanti Brothers sandwiches in Pittsburgh.
  21. Tampa really kills me. Evan Longoria, Travis d'Arnaud. Dwight Gooden. Lucas Duda. That's about all I got.
