  1. After their 148th game, the 1964 Phillies had a six-game lead.
  2. I don't think I'm even going to watch tomorrow's game. What's the point?
  3. St. Louis scores another. Our best hope is to have the Phillies lose 11 games the rest of the way.
  4. I'm going to have a lot of unexpected free time in October.
  5. Green negates Kearns.
  6. The Nationals haven't named their new stadium yet? What's up with that?
  7. As each run scored, I'd note to myself: Okay, that will make up for the one that Mota will give up. And that run will make up for the run that Sosa will give up. Oh! Now that one will make up for the run that Schoeneweis will give up!
  8. I'm as wild about Dave Williams as I am about Brian Lawrence.
  9. They've updated it. Mets are now at 89.40887 for the division, 6.03581 for the wild card, and 95.44467 for a postseason berth.
  10. I really need a few Mets wins and Phillies losses to improve my outlook. (I mean that baseball-wise. This potential collapse hasn't cost me any sleep, and I haven't had any other symptoms of depression either.)
  11. DocTee wrote: I think Finley gets in. What about Steinbrenner? I'm afraid so. Ebbets invented the rain check? That's nice, but it gets zero Cooperstown points.
  12. I would venture to say that most of the 19th Century guys are dead at the present time.
  13. I hoped to find a little bit of comfort in the Baseball Prospectus Postseason Odds Report, but it hasn't been updated yet with Monday's actual results. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php How often does this get updated? It would be nice to see that the Mets are still well over 90% for the postseason.
  14. Voting for all three games of this past weekend's series against Philadelphia will close on Wednesday. There have been 11 voters for each game, which is about as much as I can expect from a loss, so I suspect that everyone has voted. Still, the polls will remain open until tomorrow morning. Friday night's heartbreak: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7368 Saturday afternoon's disaster: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7374 Sunday afternoon's debacle: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7380
  15. There are a lot of people who COULD go in, but at some point you have to declare that the 19th Century has been covered, barring some new discoveries. I'm not prepared to say whether or not we've reached that point. I'm no expert on 19th Century baseball. (Though I'd like to be!) But you seem to be inclined to want a more crowded Hall, and I'm on the other side of the fence. I want to raise the bar as high as possible, despite the qualifications of whoever may have already made it in.
  16. Thanks for the list, Valadius. So, then, who are the recently retired managers, umpires, executives who should be considered? I agree that Froemming should go in. How about Tom Kelly?
  17. ="metirish"]I like him and certainly he'll be missed,Gary mentioned the other night that his name was pronounced Fremming when he first came into the league. That's how I still pronounce it. How are the kids saying it these days? FRO-ming?
  18. Yeah, really. When was this list finalized? May 1?
  19. How many non-players have been inducted in the last twenty years? I can't think of many. (Earl Weaver. Leo Durocher.) But then again, I haven't been devoting a whole lot of brain cells to remembering Hall of Fame inductees.
  20. If you see John Maine in the hallway, tell him I insist he pitch at least 7 strong innings.
  21. I nominate Delgado. He's been sidelined, and if he can return with a big game (and soon!), and can step up in the clubhouse, it might be the jolt that they need.
  22. It's a blessing and a curse. I find that I wish I could go into suspended animation for the next thirteen days. When I come out, I'd either be able to watch the Mets in the playoffs, which would be good, or I'd have missed their collapse, which would also be good. Meanwhile, I hope they never again hand the ball to Brian Lawrence.
  23. Or he knows that history often repeats itself.
  24. Beltran 2 Green 1 Lo Duca 0.5
  25. Brian Lawrence is lucky that he doesn't work for Michael Vick.
