  1. I'd love to see them change their name to the Spiders. The regular season sucked, but so far the postseason is going very well. Three of the teams I'm rooting for lead their Series 2 games to none.
  2. At this point I think Muniz interests me the most. The Mets will clearly need bullpen help next year, and it will be good to have a few internal candidates to choose from. I'd also like to see Joe Smith progress next year. I understand why he wouldn't be pitching in Arizona, though. His arm would probably be better served with some rest over the next few months.
  3. Still not watching (except for a stray inning here and there) but paying attention to the scores.
  4. I'm on their bandwagon. Especially if they thump the Phils in three games.

I've only seen him do impressions of George W. Bush and, most frequently, John Madden. Since I don't watch NFL games, I don't know if his Madden impression is any good. His Bush is okay. World's greatest impressionist? I wouldn't go that far.
  6. Cleveland's 5th inning is going well. Three runs in, two out, two on: S. Duncan at first - A. Cabrera walked - T. Hafner flied out to center - V. Martinez homered to deep center, A. Cabrera scored - R. Garko grounded out to second - J. Peralta doubled to right - K. Lofton singled to center, J. Peralta scored - R. Ohlendorf relieved C. Wang - K. Lofton stole second - F. Gutierrez walked
  7. Just peeking in. Indians up 4-1 and batting in the third. Yankees only one hit so far, a homer by Damon.
  8. Good ol' Kaz!
  9. Good ol' Kaz hits a grand slam!
  10. Well, the reason I brought up Johnson and Valentine isn't because I think they should be the top choices, but because they're the only smart guys I know of who are available. If it was my job to look for a new manager for a ballclub, I'm sure I'd become aware of a bunch of similarly qualified candidates. I could rattle off some names of guys who've recently managed in the Mets farm system, like Oberkfell and Teufel and whoever. They may or may not be great candidates; I have no idea. Davey Johnson and Bobby Valentine are the types of candidates I'd like to see. It doesn't have to be the two of them specifically. In fact, I'd probably prefer somebody closer to his 45th birthday than to his 60th.
  11. He's succeeded with veterans. The 1999 team had Piazza, Ventura, Olerud, Henderson, Leiter, Reed, and Franco, just to list a few off the top of my head.
  12. Girl, those Rockie uniforms are UG-LEEE!

I agree with this - Who would you have wanted as the next manager? I don't know! I've said previously that I'd like them to get a smart guy. I consider Davey Johnson and Bobby Valentine to be the two managers that the Mets have had who were smart. Either of those two would be welcome, but I'm sure there are others, either inside or outside the organization.
  15. I think they should keep Peterson, although I have to admit I got really tired of him during September. I got so sick of seeing him come to the mound and put his right hand on the pitcher's left shoulder. When he did it for Humber I was expecting the next pitch to be a home run because we had seen that result twice in the previous week or so. With Humber, though, it wasn't the first pitch, it was the third or fourth pitch. I think Peterson is the smart guy who gets a pass for this collapse. Randolph is the mediocrity whose head should have rolled.
  16. 13-15 in 2005. 14-15 in 2006. 14-14 in 2007. (THAT surprised me! The Mets win 9 of their first 11 games last month.) http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/metannual.php?ThisYear=2007&tabno=3
  17. I still like my single-division, first-through-fifth plan (or is it a scheme?) better.
  18. I wouldn't even consider it unless the Mets got a negotiating window. If they DID get that window, then yes, I'd consider it. Otherwise, wait until after the season and try to outbid the Yankees.
  19. Ummm, are you forgetting the 2000 series? And 1998 as well.
  20. Well, the forum as a whole had Schoeneweis as the number two reliever of the month, behind Sosa, so your numbers aren't all that out there. The guy with the 30-game hitting streak and the .402 batting average couldn't manage to finish above third place. Hopefully he wins a POTM or two next year. He was leading the voting in mid-August when I went off on vacation and I prepared a vintage baseball card for him that I never got to use: http://leaptoad.com/mets/jpeg/MoisesAlou1972.jpg
  21. And last October, when injuries caused the Mets to have young guys like Oliver Perez and John Maine in their postseason rotation, I was very glad to have an experienced guy like Glavine in there as well. He shut down the Dodgers in Game 2 and did the same to the Cardinals in Game 1.
  22. Rockies still batting, and they've scored three in the second inning. For the first time in a while, the Phillies are facing a good team.
  23. I think we may need one midseason, which is why I'm wondering about who might be available from within the organization.
  24. Nymr83 wrote: Pedro also didn't come from a hated rival, Glavine is and will always be a brave, and thus an 'enemy', to alot of fans. Anyone who thinks that way is being childish. I don't care if a guy used to be a Brave, or a Phillie, or a Yankee. They don't have loyalties to teams like we do. If Chase Utley were traded to the Mets, he'd be a Met. If Derek Jeter were traded to the Mets, then he'd be a Met as well. (A goofy Met who we'd make endless fun of, but a Met nonetheless.)
  25. Exactly! If he was a remarkable manager who went through a bad streak at a bad time, I wouldn't be calling for his head. (Not that anyone's listening.) I know there's VORP, but is there a VORM for managers? I think that there are at least two or three (or perhaps many more) guys already within the Mets organization who would do as well or better than Willie Randolph. Am I the only one worried about the toxic cloud of stink in Port St. Lucie next spring?
