  1. Would it be so bad if David got three days off?
  2. I'll bet Casey used the word "splendid" at least a few times.
  3. Wow! TWENTY voters for this game. That's the kind of participation we usually see only in April. Great job everyone! 4. This may be a record. It's certainly a rarity. SIXTEEN different players received Schaefer points for this game. 7. Voting for Monday night's game, where they won the damn thing by a score of 10 to 9, will close on Thursday morning. Schaefer POTG 7/7/08 - Mets 10, Phillies 9
  8. Pelfrey 5 Beltran 4 Delgado 1
  9. I'm really surprised that three people neglected to give him points. He was their entire offense for the first nine innings.
  10. AG/DC wrote: Maybe there's been a more satisfying win this year, but I don't remember it. This may or may not turn out to be a championship season, but for this week at least, the Mets are showing that 1986/2006 spirit. That three-run homer by Beltran in the first set the tone early. He'll be getting a lot of Schaefer from me for that one.
  11. I guess I'll be making a stop at Sleeping Bags R Us on my way to Queens tonight.
  12. In November, I predict that President Bush will pardon the White House Thanksgiving turkey.
  13. He's probably just a fidget.
  14. No lineups yet, but I'd like to take a moment to declare that beating Freak Lincecum would be a Big Win, but if the Mets lose, as long as it's not in heartbreaking fashion, it will be a small loss. (But it would require them to win on Wednesday and Thursday.) But hopefully the Mets are girding their loins right now, and will rise to the challenge here. Come on, guys! Let's rein in a Big Win!
  15. They should tweak Gary Carter's nose and give Nick Evans number 8. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry (and Fernando) gets number 17. Carter's number shouldn't get any honors that Keith's doesn't.
  16. ="Frayed Knot"]Nick Evans back up. Good night nurse! If the Mets win anything this year it will be a bigger miracle than 1969. The Post is already pounding the drum for Barry Bonds. This will just make it louder. Omar really does have to make a trade for a real outfielder. Or they can bring up Wilmer Flores and put him in right field. He can't be any worse than what they have now!
  17. I think, to honor Hank Steinbrenner, every non-Yankee player in the All-Star Game this year should wear Toledo Mud Hens uniforms.
  18. I'm looking forward to the Bill Gallo cartoon that shows Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle as putrid zombies rising from the dirt of the old Yankee Stadium and mindlessly lurching towards the new ballpark.
  19. If the Mets beat "The Freak" tonight, I'm going to buy a sleeping bag and, starting tomorrow, sleep at Shea until playoff tickets go on sale. (Which would be kind of dumb, because they're now sold over the Internet. Maybe I'll put my sleeping bag in front of my PC.)
  20. That 'soft rain' thing was especially puke-worthy. I wonder, is YES going to provide live coverage of the ghosts moving their stuff into the new stadium?
  21. Interesting! I wonder if Willie is pitching himself into consideration for a 2009 Mets rotation audition?
  22. 3D hasn't posted since May.
  23. What year is that card from? It looks familiar. (When I was very young, I briefly dabbled in football, hoping that I'd enjoy it as much as I did baseball. I didn't.) Looking at that card makes me smell bubble gum.
  24. It would be really cool if, as someone somewhere suggested, the Mets wore green and white uniforms today. They could wear the Jets uniform of the 60's, modified for baseball. But it doesn't look like that's going to happen, does it?
