  1. I don't really mind the three-day break. Since I got Extra Innings in 2006, I'm seeing a LOT of Mets baseball. A three-day lull isn't so bad. I just wish it didn't put a 9-game winning streak on hold. Hopefully they'll get right back into the swing of things and sweep the four games in Cincinnati.

  3. I'm with cooby. It used to be must-see TV for me, but the magic is gone for good.
  4. Not gonna watch. Haven't watched since the early 90's.
  5. He started in 1970. http://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=0150
  6. A dramatic change would involve: new colors other than blue, black, or orange; replacing the traditional NY insignia with the little curlicues; replacing the traditional Mets script with block letters. Stuff like that. I wouldn't call the tail dramatic. I'd just call it ugly.
  7. And don't the Pirates sometimes wear bright red jerseys with a big pirate face on the front? And look at those Colorado uniforms with the girlie shoulders. A new uniform won't necessarily be an improvement. It may very well be a major turn for the worse.
  8. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket"]Cheers jumped the shark then, if not sooner. My memory of Cheers has grown fuzzy with the passage of years, but I do recall thinking it was past its prime even before Diane left. I think the best seasons were the ones that came before Woody replaced Coach.
  9. There have been rumors of a uniform change for 2009, but I don't know if they have any basis in fact at all. And if there is a new uniform, I'm not at all convinced that it will be a change for the better. I'd like to see a return to blue caps and white pinstriped uniforms but they could very well go in a completely different direction. It's possible, for example, that starting next year, the Mets will be wearing pink and green. Beware of what you wish for.
  10. Remember, we don't actually have to give them whatever they're asking for. Johan Santana is a Met, and Jose Reyes is not a Minnesota Twin.
  11. I was wondering that, too. Maybe he's made some kind of correlation between the blue caps and the winning streak. I would guess that this was the first time we've seen blue caps six games in a row since 1997. Seeing blue caps in Cincinnati on Thursday would be wonderful.
  12. No, he's not. I think he should play until he's replaced by someone younger and better. But if it turns out that Argenis Reyes is that guy, (and it's way too early to say that for sure) then that day will come well before Castillo's contract runs out.
  13. Stearns, maybe? 1978 was the only "Torre" year in which no Met got into the All-Star Game. http://leaptoad.com/mets/allstar.php
  14. How about we call him "Fernando" or "Martinez"? And don't forget, we may very well end up calling him "traded to the Chicago White Sox" or something like that.
  15. And if that's true, then that's a good thing to have. (An Utley or an Uggla would be better, of course, but not many teams have second basemen like those.) The Mets don't necessarily benefit from the "cheaper" because they're paying Castillo anyway. And with three years left on his contract, Castillo would be very difficult to unload to another team. So what happens? Is he an expensive reserve infielder behind Easley and then A. Reyes until he gets released some time during the 2011 season? Or will there be some kind of a perfect storm that will cause there to be some team that has a need at second at a time when Castillo is the best guy available? (This is all going under the assumption that Castillo won't get his regular job back. I think he will, but probably not through the end of 2011.)
  16. Cleon may be on to something, according to Adam Rubin... Adam Rubin wrote: Mets aren't rushing to get Luis Castillo back into the lineup BY ADAM RUBIN DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Monday, July 14th 2008, 4:00 AM The Mets plan to give Luis Castillo the Orlando Hernandez treatment. In essence: Don't rush, we're doing fine. Castillo, in the first season of a four-year, $25 million contract, and on the DL with a strained left hip flexor, is eligible to be activated Friday in Cincinnati, the day after the Mets return from the All-Star break. But with Damion Easley and rookie Argenis Reyes performing well as a tandem at the position, one Met official, when asked whether Castillo would rejoin the team during the Reds series, replied, "What for?" Said interim manager Jerry Manuel, who has shown a preference for playing performers over players with large contracts: "We're really playing well at that position right now. That's a tough one. I need the break to think about that." With the Mets minus Castillo, Easley (0-for-4 Sunday night) has started all but two games this month. But at 38 years old, he's been susceptible to injury, including quadriceps trouble that has nagged him since the July 1-3 series in St. Louis when he took over. Manuel has raved about Reyes' range, and sees him as a run-producing sparkplug in the David Eckstein mold. Reyes, 25, is a slap hitter who hasn't hit more than three homers in any professional season.
  17. They did the Brooklyn Dodgers? That's nice. Are they also doing the St. Louis Browns, the Montreal Expos, and the Seattle Pilots?

  22. He's not really hitting for a lot of power. Had he been projected as a slugger? Maybe the home runs will come as he "fills out" but his numbers so far don't look like what you'd typically want from a corner outfielder. Everyone seems to agree he's good, but what kind of a major leaguer are they projecting him to be? If he were to replicate his Binghamton numbers in the majors, he'd be a nice player, but not the superstar we seem to be salivating over. Someone tell me why I'm wrong about this...
